Miss, My Father loves you -
Chapter 23 Be Better Than Daryl
Anyway, Lucy was different from those actresses who became popular because of pretty faces. She had a good agent. Her agent knew that Lucy had mediocre acting skills, so she didn't allow her to take leading roles yet.
If the reputation of a play was bad, most of the audience would blame the actors. The leading role would obviously be the first to be blamed.
Lucy's agent knew they must be patient. All she did was wait for a good opportunity to come as a stepping stone for Lucy's success.
Soon enough, the launching ceremony began, and Sofia and Daryl stood side by side.
After a simple ceremony, the crew took a group photo.
When the assistant director began to distribute scripts, Sofia took Daryl to a quiet corner to give her space to study it.
"Sorry, I didn't attend the launching ceremony because I wasn't feeling well."
A soft feminine voice came through. Daryl looked up and saw that it was Lucy.
She was slender, tall, and thin. As a model, her exquisite figure was well managed and retained over the years. Lucy was famous for her long, thin, and white legs,
as well as her sweet smile. Her face was a little chubby, but it didn't affect her stage presence whenever she was on the show. Many people were attracted by her face alone. "Try not to mess with Lucy,"
Sofia whispered in Daryl's ear. "You had not in the show business for years. The actresses' warm smiles are merely a facade. Most of them, in fact, are so vicious and appalling." "What did she do? Why did you say that?" Daryl was puzzled.
Sofia looked around and pretended to tie Daryl's shoes. Then she responded in a low voice, "On one occasion, she secretly ordered someone to ruin an actress's face just because she was prettier. The crew didn't have much of a choice but change the actress, and that girl never appeared in the show business ever again."
Only a few senior staff in the show business knew that, and Sofia happened to have gotten that story from an old friend.
Daryl couldn't help but take a deep breath as she heard those words. She didn't expect that someone like Lucy, who seemed to look so sweet and kindhearted, would do such a disturbing thing.
Daryl replied faintly, "I know."
"I'll go and buy you some drink," said Sofia.
"Okay."
Daryl nodded, and then reflexively looked at Lucy's direction. She was talking happily with the assistant director, as evident with a warm smile on her face. Such a smile made her look so innocent, sweet, and easily approachable.
Vivian was busy with other things at the moment. When she came over, she found that Lucy was here. She nodded indifferently, and didn't say anything.
Lucy's agent took her to the dressing room. Because there was another sponsor supporting her in this play, she was given a separate dressing room. As soon as Lucy entered the empty place, the smile on her face disappeared.
"Who does Vivian think she is? She is just a director. Does she think she is somebody just because she's directing Queen of Charm?"
Lucy exclaimed with anger. "How dare she pull a long face at me?"
After Lucy finished talking, her agent walked over and said, "Don't be angry with her. What you need to do now is give it your best to shoot the movie well." Lucy's agent, Sadie Lin, was a veteran agent in the show business.
In the past, she had once competed with Sofia for the position of top agent. However, Sofia's trump card, Daryl, managed to overshadow most of the artists under her. Since Daryl quit, Sofia had never appeared in the industry. But now, the two of them showed up.
Sadie wanted to see if Sofia and Daryl could turn the tables this time.
"Lucy."
Sadie approached her and gently put her hands on her shoulders. "This time, you must defeat Daryl, okay?"
"Daryl?
Who is she?" Lucy frowned. Lucy had started her career a few years ago; she never cared about the has-been actors. It was easy for artists to flop.
"She is one of the supporting roles in this play,"
Sadie replied. "There are many scenes in the movie where you would slap her. If you are really angry, just slap her hard."
"Really?
But why should I slap her?" asked Lucy, raising her eyebrows.
Although she was vicious, she had her own thoughts. She had never been of one mind with Sadie, and would even doubt her in times like this.
"She is a beautiful woman with superb acting skills. She was quite popular in the show business."
Sadie chuckled. "The leading actress, Kayleigh, is not young anymore. No matter how others will praise her, they will talk about her acting skills alone, and nothing else.
However, Daryl is different. She is only twenty-five. You can't imagine how popular she was in the show business at the age of twenty. Are you willing to let her come back and steal your lightning?"
Sadie managed to single out the things that mattered the most to Lucy. Sure enough, her words moved the latter.
Lucy looked down, and said, "Go out there and call the make-up artist for me."
"Okay."
Sadie turned around and left. As soon as she left, Lucy took out her phone and searched Daryl's name online.
Most of the news online was about her legendary achievements at such a young age. She had never shot a bad play since she started her career.
It could be said that in that era, if Daryl was in a play, that play would be a success.
Lucy's heart began to tighten at the sight of this. 'How could Daryl be willing to quit at the age of twenty?'
In the past five years, she hadn't shown up in the show business. However, she still had a large number of loyal fans.
A trace of cruelty flashed across Lucy's eyes after she was done reading it. She would never let Daryl steal her lightning and take back her popularity!
She had conserved strength and stored up energy under Sadie's guidance for a few years, just to gain a good reputation and wait for a good opportunity to become popular.
Lucy simply couldn't allow Daryl to be an obstacle on her way to be an A-list actress!
