Chapter 5

Nora feels that her heart is stopping breathing. Darkness filled her eyes. Because her worst nightmare was lying on the table. The man she never wanted to meet or see in her life. But now he is here and injured. His hand began to tremble, facing the field soaked in sweat.

“I Carter West rejected you, Nora Morris, as my Mate.” His words reverberate in her mind like a hammer. The operation knife fell out of her hand. She backs away from him, puts her palms on her ears, and closes her eyes.

“No… no… stop it! Please stop it…” She shouted in panic.

Hearing her painful voice, Leo jumps in fear. He turns to Nora and follows her eyes in the direction his gaze falls on Carter. Seeing him here, he jumped in shock. He finds out what happened to Nora.

“Oh… Shit… Nora…” Leo runs up to her and grabs her by both shoulders.

“Nora!! Nora!! Come back… Nora…” Leo\’s voice rings through her mind.

Leo swiftly shakes Nora off the shoulders. He calls her back to back. To bring her back from her depression. He knows that if she falls into depression, the situation becomes more serious, which is dangerous for her.

Suddenly Nora opens her eyes and sees him. Her eyes were deep and empty. Leo feels very sad and scared to see her like this. He sees her as he finds Nora at the motel that day. And it was frightening for him to see her the same as that day.

She has come back from her depression, but she is not the old cherry Nora she met in the morning. He grabs her lab coat and takes out her medicine. He opened its lid and took a pill. He opened her mouth and put bullets in her mouth. Nora used to take pills without water. So when Leo put the pills in his mouth, she quickly swallowed. Slowly she returned to normal.

“Are you okay, Nora?” Leo asks in a worried tone.

She didn\’t answers him, just blinking her eyes in response.

“Are you feeling well now, Nora?” Leo asked carefully.

“We… Yes. I\’m fine…” She nodded slowly and took a deep breath to calm down a bit.

“Thank you, Goddess, you\’re back! You put me to death, Nora. Now go to your cabin and rest. I\’ll handle everything here… all right.” Leo said in a hurried tone. He was still worried that seeing Carter here might give her another panic attack.

“No, I will…” Nora said calmly.

“But…” Leo tries to say.

Nora said, “You\’re not a heart surgeon, Leo… I\’m a heart surgeon here. Now let me do my job… You can help me…” Nora said and took the knife from her.

“Okay… I\’m with you…” said Leo. They know how stubborn Nora is about her profession. He makes sure Nora won\’t be able to see Carter\’s face during the operation.

Nora\’s hand works regularly. Leo assists her and makes sure she is well. Other junior doctors and nurses help him like they always do. Did they dare ask about Nora\’s strange behavior? Because they knew about her condition. After six hours, she completed the operation and left the operation room.

“Doctor, how\’s my husband?” A young woman came forward and asked Nora.

Nora froze on the spot and looked at her best friend, who has a Half-Wolf. Miya\’s mother was a wolf, but her father was a human. So that half-wolf was born. Miya and Nora are college friends. Shy, sweet, and innocent, Miya becomes Nora\’s best friend. But Miya is the reason Carter rejected her.

Carter is in love with Miya and wants her to be Luna. So he rejected Nora. Nora is just as angry at her as she is mad at Carter. She hates them both and never wants to see them. But after four years, Miya again appeared in front of her.

Miya changed her look. Now she looks rich, beautiful, some model. Tight and short dress with heavy makeup. The face she makes is like a shy, innocent and caring person in words. But Nora is still angry with him. Because of that, Carter disapproves of her and has to live like Rouge. She was leaving her family behind.

Nora never tries to meet Miya after that incident. If she meets Miya, Carter will be with her, and Nora will not have the strength to face him. Nora doesn\’t know about Miya after she leaves the packhouse. But today, she meets her back.

Miya sees Nora, but she never recognizes her because Nora is wearing a hospital gown and mask on her face.

“The operation is successful. He is out of danger…” Leo stepped forward and said calmly.

He knows the relationship between the two women. And Nora doesn\’t want to meet Miya yet. So he comes forward to help Nora.

Suddenly he turned to the other side. The man with a calm and serious face went up to her. He is Carter\’s Beta Jax.

Beta Jax is the most muscular wolf in the pack and Leo\’s eldest brother. Carter chose Jax when he became the alpha. He wants Leo to be his beta, but Leo has already left the pack. Carter chose Jax because there is no one stronger than Jax in the wolf pack. He is a clever and great warrior.

“Oh… Thank you, doctor… For saving his life.” said Miya. She never looks sad.

“How\’s Alpha?” Jax asked, looking at Nora. His nose was smelling the smell in the air.

“This doctor saved Carter, Jax… I\’m so happy.” Miya said happily.

“Shall we go?” Ignoring Miya\’s cheerful tone, Leo asked Nora. He realized that Jax\’s eyes were staring at Nora differently.

Jax is sniffing in the air, and his eyes are glued to Nora. His eyes are slowly turning black. It’s is means that his wolf will try to control him. And it\’s not good for them, especially for Nora.

“Sure…” Nora nods at Leo\’s point.

Nora also feels that Beta Jax has his eyes on her. She started feeling uncomfortable. She wants to run away from that place and hide in her room.

“Excuse me, doctor… Can I talk to you?” Jax tries to get closer to Nora.

“You can ask me about the patient. My fellow doctor is tired of the long operation. So excuse her…” Leo stops him from standing in front of him. And on the other hand, he signals Nora to leave.

Nora nods and goes to her cabin. Jax was disappointed to see her leave.

“So… what do you want to know? ” Leo turned to him and asked in a professional tone.

“I can smell your scent… you’re a wolf, aren\’t you?” Jax\’s eye becomes his again.

“So what? Is it a crime to be a wolf?” Leo asked in an annoying voice.

“Leo… I never thought you were hiding here?” Jax asked suddenly.

“Did you recognize me?” Leo took off his mask and smiled.

“You\’re my other brother… How can I not recognize my brother? I\’ll never forget your smell…” said Jax and smiled softly.

“Glad to know…” said Leo calmly.

“Leo..? It\’s you?” Suddenly, Miya\’s voice interrupts them.

Leo looks at her, and his face changes. She went ahead to him. He feels more awkward having to face Miya after a long time. But he can’t runs away from here.

“How are you, Leo? Wait… Are you the doctor here? Have you saved Carter\’s life? He\’s your friend… OMG! Leo, thanks for saving his life…” Miya talks happily. She looks so excited to meet an old friend.

“You\’re talking wrong… I\’m not the one who saved him… That was my partner Dr. Morris… She\’s the one who does the operation… and saves his life. She\’s a good heart surgeon in our hospital. I just tried to help her. So thank her, not me…” Leo said in a serious tone.

“Oh! So can you thank her on my behalf? That doctor didn’t talk to me when I tried to ask about Carter\’s condition.” said Miya.

“She doesn’t like to talk much. Anyway, I have to go back. I need to check on other patients… Your patients will be transferred to the VIP ward. You can visit him when he is delivered. I have to go, excuse me…” Leo said professionally and went into Nora\’s cabin without looking at Jax.

Jax wants to stop him and asks about his life. But soon, Carter was shifted to the VIP room. So he needs to be with Miya because she is alone there.
