My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1003
After dealing with my wound, he suddenly looked up. As I was absent-mindedly staring at him at the moment, I was caught.
Our eyes met and I got lost in his deep, troubled gaze I felt my face heat up and my heart raced.
I coughed to cover the weirdness and my throat dry. "Well, thank you for your help tonight. I won't press charges against you for breaking into my bedroom. You can go back now."
I was startled as he suddenly laughed and shook his head at me. He narrowed his eyes and said, "Arianna, why haven't I realised that you have such a mouth on you?"
He reached out and grabbed my chin. He was extremely close to me. Our breaths intertwined, and I moved back. I tried to calm my racing heart and said, "I am not being difficult. I am telling the truth. Hendrix, I've told you that it won't work between us. When we finish this project, we are going back to Ucrebury to get the divorce certificate. This matter will be over."
I didn't dare look at him anymore. I lay back down and pulled the blanket over my head.
He remained sat by the side of the bed, not moving a single muscle. I waited a moment, and after not hearing anything, out of curiosity, peeped out.
I caught his gaze, dull and troubled. "Is it because of the child? Or is it because of your parents?"
My breath hitched at the sadness I glimpsed in his eyes. I bit my lip. "Isn't it obvious? It didn't happen to you personally. You couldn't possibly understand what I went through. In your eyes, we just lost a child, and I just had a spat with my parents. Can you imagine how I felt? Did it not seem severe enough for you? Do you think that I should just ignore the past and be with you? You are selfish to think so, Hendrix!"
He stared back at me, unflappable in the face of my rage. After a long while, he said, "I never treated you as if these things never happened. You want freedom, a new life, I can let go and give you that, but Arianna, you now need someone by your side to take care of you. And when that day comes where you have found a person that can take care of you, I will leave without any hesitation, end this marriage and let you live your life."
I was bewildered. I didn't expect him to give in so easily. He had always been strong and overbearing. This sudden agreeableness was unexpected.
"Okay, I'll hold you to your words!" I said and tried to push away the faint stab of pain in my heart.
It rained all night. The next day, the sun shone brightly and the fragrant smell of the earth drifted in the breeze.
A look around confirmed that Hendrix was no longer in the room. I didn't know what time he left the previous night, probably after I fell asleep.
I tried to put the whole night behind me as I got up to wash my face and brush my teeth. I went downstairs to prepare breakfast. However, Sebastian didn't come down.
I went up and knocked on his door, before I could call out, it slightly swung open. I poked my head in. His bed was neatly made as if no one has slept on it.
Did this mean that last night... he never came home?
Was he with Naomi?
Their relationship seemed like it was progressing very fast. Looking at the breakfast on the table, I made a snap decision. It would be such a waste to waste good food.
Not trying to analyse my actions, I packed them up and went next door. I saw a black Maybach parked next door. It must've been Hendrix's.
