My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1445
John breathed a sigh of relief as he looked in the direction of the swimming pool. His wife walked in without a hair out of place, her clothes still dry. He was completely stunned for a moment and looked at me in surprise. "You..."
I pursed my lips, "Take your wife and leave immediately. Someone has probably been waiting for you outside for quite some time now. But you've got to do me a favor since I've treated your wife with kindness!" He paused for a second as he looked at me. "What kind of favor is it?"
"Find a way to get ahold of a kid named Yonas. Help him escape from Bobbie. That wouldn't cause you much trouble, would it?"
Susan, who had been standing in a corner all this time, looked at me with bright eyes while I returned her gaze. I glanced at John, waiting for his reply.
At this moment, John exchanged a look with his wife. He nodded. "Alright, I'll find a way to get that kid out for you."
I nodded with satisfaction as I continued, "Great! Let's get going!"
John stumbled out of the house with his wife. Hendrix then walked up to me, raised his hands to grab onto my waist before saying, "Are you feeling tired? Let's get some rest!"
I leaned against his chest as we walked out of the villa. After a distance, Hendrix stopped mid step and turned to glance at Susan, who was trailing behind him. He looked at me and asked, "What are you going to do with her?"
"She can suit herself! She can follow if that's what she wants."
Evan was driving as I leaned on Hendrix's shoulder in exhaustion and said feebly, "Hendrix, do you blame me?"
The loss of the first child was unexpected, and that brought all of us into desperation. But losing the second child was nothing but my own negligence. I went into the hotel room even though I knew it was dangerous to do so. It was an unforgivable act for me to help Susan before I could ensure my own safety. It was my carelessness that made me lose the baby.
It was then that he pulled me into an embrace as he gently patted my back. "You don't have to blame yourself for it. There are things fated to be. It was me who didn't do my part to protect you. How could you blame yourself for such an unpredictable accident?"
Hearing his comforting words, I sighed, as I knew deep down in my heart that he was trying his best to comfort me. With a thought in mind, I opened my mouth as I said, "Sebastian had set a huge trap on us. What do you think he was trying to do?"
He squinted his eyes and looked at me. After a moment of silence he said, "All he wants is the authority over a few of Oakland's ports."
At that moment, I was caught in slight confusion. "Although the ports actually make a great amount of money, why did he put so much effort into obtaining them, so much so that he was willing to undergo foul play. Why is he so insistent?"
He looked down at me while he tenderly gave my forehead a soft kiss. "The profit from the ports aren't that tempting to him, but the control over them is. Once he has the authority, he will have all rights to make decisions. He will gain a massive amount of power in Oakland."
I puckered my lips when I heard his explanation. Indeed, the ports were the essential path for tradings between Oakland and other cities. As long as the management was well-planned, the profiting point would not be limited to these ports. Thus, Sebastian had been plotting against Hendrix. The Roberts Group would lose its leader as soon as Hendrix was caught in trouble. By that time, he would benefit in all ways. No wonder he was willing to lay out such a large trap for us.
It was at this moment that the phone rang with Valerie's call. I picked up the call swiftly. Valerie said in a hurried voice, "Arianna, where are you guys? Anne's condition is getting worse now. The doctor said that the cancer cells have spread to other organs. They must prepare for surgery right now. Please come back at once."
