My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1598
"Why isn't it possible?" Freya said calmly. She added, "Even if you receive the offer letter to study in university, you'll have to spend a few more years in school. Honestly speaking, the knowledge from books isn't practical in real life, so why don't you apply for a lawyer's license and work for a few years as an apprentice? With connections of the Moore family and the Roberts, starting a law firm and having an excellent business is a piece of cake."
I wasn't interested in a law firm, but Freya's plan did suit me very much.
The thought of graduating with a master's degree had always been my concern. I was so determined that I became short-sighted. I had never thought that I could skip that step and take the bar exam instead. Since the ending was the same, why choose the most complicated journey?
After careful thought, I registered for the nearest exam online with Freya on the spot.
After we were done, Freya stretched and began to search for Anne, asking, "Where's Anne? I've been here for so long, but haven't got to see her yet."
"Maybe she's playing with Madam Parker in the backyard," I answered. Although Anne's a small kid, the cold really didn't bother her at all. She had a snow fight almost every three days. The snow in Jarold City had not melted yet. She probably had Minnie pile up snowmen with her.
As we spoke, we held each other's arms and walked to the backyard.
As soon as we stepped on the stone pavements, we heard Anne's giggles, instantly feeling better.
When we walked closer, I saw Anne's small hand had already turned red from the cold, but she was still holding quite a large snowball in her hand. Anne kept throwing it to the other side.
I thought it was Minnie who was with her, but when I turned around, I saw Estella.
The weak girl did not care about the cold at all. Estella had been forming snowballs and having a snow fight with Anne, but she did not throw a snowball at Anne. Obviously, she was giving in to her. Minnie stood aside with their coats in hand, smiling.
I didn't even notice that Freya's face had darkened. I let go of her hand and went over to Anne's side, pretending to be angry as I lectured Anne, "The weather is so cold. Why are you messing around again?"
Anne pouted, somewhat displeased, but she listened to me and let go of the snowball in her hand, allowing it to fall to the ground and shatter into ice powder.
Minnie quickly came over and put on the coat for Anne. She said, "It's my fault, it's my fault. I didn't take good care of her."
Estella suddenly came up to us and said, "Mrs. Roberts, this must be Anne. She's adorable."
I looked up and saw Estella smiling all along. Her eyes were full of affection for Anne. Estella seemed to be not as lost as she had just come into the house.
I should be admiring her strong adaptability, but I felt a little unhappy and could not force a smile. I just replied perfunctorily, "Thank you."
Anne was a mischievous girl. She knew that Estella was praising her, so she immediately raised her chin and said in an arrogant tone, "Mom! I like her very much. Will she play with me again?"
Before I could even speak, Estella answered, "Yes, I will. I'm your mother's personal assistant, so I'll definitely see you a lot in the future!"
"Great! I have someone to play with me now," Anne was overjoyed that she sprung up and down like a little monkey, but I couldn't tell whether I was happy or not.
I was going to be busy for a while because of the bar exam. Although I had no time to accompany Anne, I couldn't help feeling a little jealous that Estella was getting closer to her.
Every mother understood the feeling of hoping her child to only be close with her. Which mother would be so kind as to allow someone else to be close with her child other than herself?
