My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1692
After locking eyes with him for a few seconds, I looked away and didn't want to linger further.
The servant quickly brought in some food. Aaron took care of me while Hendrix stood still and watched.
After I filled my stomach, I regained some strength. I officially picked up the baby for the first time and looked at her face greedily, hoping to remember every detail. The tense atmosphere lasted for about a minute before Aaron spoke.
"It's my fault. I found the missing nurse and confirmed it. Last night, she worked with a bodyguard outside the manor and switched the baby. The kidnapper fled abroad." After he said that, the whole room was quiet again, and the atmosphere was tense and more pressing.
I looked at my daughter in my arms and had nothing to say.
It was no use being cautious. Those people had already set up a trap. No matter how well Aaron did, he couldn't escape from the trap.
After a long time, I suddenly took a deep breath and turned my head to look at Hendrix, who was standing in the distance, and said coldly, "Where were you last night?"
Hendrix's voice was low without any ups and downs. "I was tracking down Owen Milton's secretary. He had important documents from that time, which could prove that my parents were innocent. We heard people say they saw the secretary in Vegaland... When you called, I heard that something happened to Mr. Reid. I've just boarded the plane at that time."
"Have you found him?" I remained indifferent.
"No." Hendrix said frankly, "Last month, there was news that he was in Madarsburg. Just like this time, we didn't find anything."
I sneered and felt that things were ironic.
I understood Hendrix well enough to know how to take his words. Even if he knew that it was a long shot, he would still go. As long as he could avenge his parents and clear away their grievances, he wouldn't hesitate even if he had to lose his life. After learning that something had happened to Charles, he chose to return immediately. But so what? Our son had just been born, and he was still taken away. He was so young, and he was still a premature child. Would those people be able to take care of him?
This was a warning.
Eddison and his fellows had never let go of their guard against Hendrix, and deliberately took away his only son in order to make him stop pursuing revenge. Perhaps, from the moment Hendrix had grown into his position, they had already laid out an inescapable net, waiting for us to fall into it.
"Hendrix, we're too naive. So what if you've found your enemy? They can afford to lose. What about us?" I was on the verge of breaking down, but I had no choice but to force a smile at the child in the cradle. My eyes were drenched in tears and I could no longer tell whether I was laughing or feeling sad.
Hendrix stood where he was without saying a word. His tall figure was like a solid wall that blocked all of my emotions.
I continued to say, "You can leave. I'll go and find the child myself. Don't come near us anymore."
I loved Hendrix, but I didn't have the courage to continue loving him.
The current me was not only Arianna Reid, and not only Hendrix's wife, Mrs. Roberts. I was the mother of two children. As long as they were safe, I could give everything to them.
My words successfully stimulated Hendrix. Almost as soon as I finished speaking, he strode out without saying yes or no.
As soon as he left, there were only Aaron and me in the room, with the child in my arms.
"Have you sent someone to look for him?" I said lightly.
The child was gone, and I was in no mood to rest.
