He stepped out of the room. With long strides, he reached the entrance of the corridor in a few steps. Then he turned around and walked into the first room on the left. He closed the door in a single motion without looking back.

His behavior seemed to indicate that he wanted to draw a clear boundary between him and me. Somehow, I felt a little uncomfortable.

But the safety of my child surpassed everything. After a while, I quickly walked into the bedroom and turned on the laptop.

There was only one document on the desktop, which was not difficult to find. I immediately opened it, and then a baby's face appeared on the screen. He had a high nose and a sharp jawline. He was staring at the camera.

My nose twitched. I raised my hand and pursed my lips, feeling extremely excited.

Those eyebrows, eyes and that nose. Who else could it be but my son?

In my excitement, I couldn't help but feel lucky that my baby was well taken care of. Although he was still very scrawny, his small eyes flickered with energy.

At the very least, Irvin was telling the truth, that these people had not mistreated my child.

Knowing that my child was safe and sound, I finally felt relieved and switched off the laptop. I calmed down and tried to find a solution.

It was impossible to escape. My child was still in their hands, and I would never leave him behind.

That was why there were no bodyguards around the house and not even a single surveillance camera watching over me. They knew my weakness very well. However, I still didn't know when I would be able to see my child.

I laid down on the bed, feeling a little discouraged.

I sighed heavily. Suddenly, I felt something cold lying next to my hand.

I grabbed it, and discovered that it was a mobile phone!

Most importantly, it was unlocked.

I immediately dialed Hendrix's number, and then fell into a nervous wait.

Soon after a beep, Hendrix's husky voice rang out from the opposite side. "Arianna."

"How did you know it was me?" This was probably a foreign number, and it probably didn't have a caller ID. I didn't think he would actually pick up.

"Did you see Irvin?" Hendrix asked.

His tone sounded strange. I suppressed my excitement and said in a soft voice, "Yes, I did. But I came here for my child. That's why I was willing to leave the country."

"Should I say that you are a good mother?" Hendrix suddenly said pointedly. He then gnashed his teeth and said, "I've been too lenient on you. That's why you were able to use my most prized possession to threaten me."

My heart leaped into my throat. I had nothing to say.

Hendrix had been trapped in hatred and rivalries for his whole life. The only thing different was falling in love with me. I was special to him. Not even his child could match up. But I'd bet myself for my child's safety.

If I won, everyone would be happy. If I lost, however, Hendrix would probably hate me for a lifetime.

"Hendrix..." I didn't know what to say, so I just called his name.

There was a long silence before Hendrix said firmly, "This is the first and last time. Otherwise, I won't forgive you."

He didn't blame me, so I naturally knew not to argue with him. Instead, I replied, "As long as my child is fine, I promise it won't happen again."

A long sigh came from the other end of the line. Hendrix said, "Now you probably know why I'm so against you keeping in touch with Irvin."

The subject changed so quickly that I did not know how to react. "You've been suspicious of Irvin's disappearance for a while now, haven't you?" "Do you remember that I had told you some of the culprits were still unidentified?"

"Do you mean that the Granger Family is also involved?"
