My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1781
When Anne grew up, she would naturally understand things. At the moment, if I told her too much, she would only feel even more pressured. I simply fed her some peas, one of her favorite foods, and gave Emma a look, asking her to watch over Anne. Emma diverted Anne's attention.
As I turned around, I noticed that Aaron's face was dark.
I had to make fun of him and asked, "You're not actually jealous of her teacher, are you?"
Aaron narrowed his eyes as he stroked his chin. In a matter-of-fact tone, he retorted, "It hasn't been long since she entered primary school, yet she already favors her teacher more than me. I can't believe that there's someone in this world who can compare to my charm. I must meet him. Tomorrow, I'll pick Anne up from school instead."
"Don't do anything rash to scare her teacher away. I've already asked Freya about him. Mr. Clark isn't a bad person. It's rare for Anne to open up to someone. Don't screw this up for her," I nagged at Aaron. "Fine, fine. I know my limits." Aaron waved his hand and directly interrupted me. He continued, "Let's talk about you instead. You haven't asked me to take care of anything in forever. Come on, what do you need me to do now?"
"I knew I wouldn't be able to hide anything from you," I said as I shrugged my shoulders. Picking up my wine glass, I gave him a toast as I requested, "Let's do business together!"
"Business? What kind of business are you talking about? Aren't you the head of a law firm already? You're also the wife of the Roberts Group's leader. Do you even need me to teach you how to do business?" Aaron said jokingly. His shrewd eyes kept scanning over me, as if wanting to discern my real thoughts.
I pursed my lips, put down the glass, and replied with a smile, "Since I've already personally asked you for such a favor, it's not going to be small business. Either way, you'll help me, right?"
Aaron took a deep breath and looked even more surprised. He asked, "Have you been short of money recently?"
"Yes, I have!" I nodded furiously.
It wasn't an exaggeration to say that hiring a mercenary like Mullen had cost even more than paying a senior manager under Hendrix. Moreover, I had hired another team of guards to be around Anne, which was another big expenditure.
However, the main goal of working together with Aaron was not to earn money. Only with Aaron's connections could I have a chance to get in touch with the Drake family.
Aaron's expression became even stranger after hearing my reply. He was as still as a statue and his eyes seemed to be asking me if I was just messing around.
I understood where he was coming from. I was the Roberts Group second largest shareholder, the daughter of the Reid family, and was backed up by bigshots such as Valerie and Pedro. If I really was lacking in money, then everyone else in the world would be considered penniless.
With Aaron staring at me for so long, I had to look away first out of guilt. I conceded, "Okay, I'll tell you the truth. Bate Coin is now going after Hendrix, so I have to meet the perpetrator behind all this."
"You want to get close to Tyler Drake?" Aaron's expression suddenly became serious, and he replied with no hesitation, "No, I won't agree to this."
My smile froze as I asked, "Why?"
With a dark expression on his face, Aaron explained, "Arianna, have you forgotten already? I established a company for you because I wanted you to settle down and work. You can't just drop everything and go looking fortrouble again!"
After receiving such a harsh scolding, I swallowed my words. The atmosphere at the dining table suddenly became chilly.
Although Aaron's tone was unkind, I knew very well that he was just overly concerned about my safety.
After thinking about it for a moment, I picked up my phone and dialed Mullen's number.
She answered immediately, "What's the matter?"
I said, "Come in, I'm in the dining room."
Then, I hung up the phone. I sat down opposite Aaron and waited quietly.
Less than a minute later, the sound of footsteps could be heard from upstairs. Aaron and I looked over towards it and saw Mullen leisurely walking down the stairs, caressing the railing of the stairs. Halfway down the stairs, she stopped walking. With a pair of indiscernible eyes, she looked at us, a tinge of arrogance in her gaze.
