My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1782
"What's going on?" Aaron anxiously asked, "Isn't she your new secretary? When did she come in?" "Yes, she's one of mine, but she isn't here to be a secretary. Her job is to protect me," I explained. Aaron looked at me suspiciously, as if thinking about the credibility of my words.
In order to dispel his concerns, I added, "Don't you think that the Reid Manor's security is tight enough now? Since Mullen appeared soundlessly in front of us within a minute, she can protect me well, right?" Aaron remained silent, a likely indication that he agreed.
"Do you want to sit down and eat together?" I asked Mullen as I raised my head to look at her.
"Is there something for me to do here?" Her face was icy as she ignored my invitation.
"No, there isn't." For me to ask her to show up was already an inconvenience on my part. I beckoned her, "It's so cold outside. Why don't you come in and eat some food to warm yourself up?"
Not replying to me, Mullen immediately turned around and headed back upstairs. Not too long after, she came to a halt and glanced sideways. She said, "I'm not used to this."
After that, she quickened her steps and walked towards the corridor.
However, I was a little confused.
What wasn't she used to?
We had prepared seafood, a cuisine that was considered quite universal. It was implausible that she wouldn't be used to the taste of the food.
Perhaps Mullen had stood too far just then, so she jumped to the conclusion that we had ordered some exotic cuisine.
As I was thinking about her words, Aaron suddenly stood up and blocked my sight. He fixed his deep eyes on me and said seriously in a gentle tone, "I'll do it." "Really?" I was overjoyed. I hadn't expected Aaron to change his attitude so quickly.
"Yes." Aaron bore no expression on his face, so I had no idea if he was angry or happy. His usual stony face was distant.
I could not continue to smile cheekily. After regaining my composure, I asked him, "Aaron, do you think I'm being too impulsive? Is that why you're angry?"
Aaron shook his head and sighed. He looked at me and said earnestly, "I'm just relieved."
"What do you mean?" I asked, confusion in my eyes.
"In the past, I used to think that you were too stubborn and impulsive. You were always too reckless and you injured yourself a lot, so I had to protect you well at all times. However, today, when I saw the secretary you hired, I realized that you had pulled off something so big without our knowledge. I knew that you had already matured. Since you've realized how valuable your life is, I can trust you to do this." The word "mature" held a humongous weight.
For some reason, the deepest part of my heart was touched and full of mixed emotions.
After a while, I realized that the atmosphere was a bit awkward. So, I patted him hard on the arm as I teased, "Look at you, being such a softie!"
"I'm just feeling a little sentimental! Alright, alright, what are you going to do now? I'll just go along with your plan," Aaron said with a smile.
"My plan is really simple!" I stood up and shamelessly escorted Aaron upstairs. "Today, just tell me everything you know about Bate Coin!" The next day, Aaron brought me right up to Drake Real Estate's front door. We were here as Reid
Group's CEO and the second largest shareholder of Roberts Group.
Humans always liked to stay close to their enemies, a practice that was particularly common in the unpredictable business world. Aaron was the mastermind that kept Matt out of the country forever. Therefore, even though Charles was a formidable enemy for the Drake family due to Bate Coin, the security guards of Drake Real Estate did not stop us from entering the building. The receptionist respectfully led us into the waiting room.
