In order to ensure Anne was healthy, I took her to the hospital early the next morning.

She sat down after a full-body examination and fortunately didn't have any abnormalities. I was utterly relieved.

Thinking that lan had always been fond of her, I planned to take her over to visit him. I didn't know until I got to the ward that Sawyer had transferred him to a much more prestigious private hospital. I had nothing else to do there, so I decided to take Anne home first.

With a "ding", the elevator door slowly opened, and the cold iron doors faded away. What came into sight was a familiar-looking ice-cold face.

Hendrix was standing inside. Serene, who was next to him, didn't look very well, but it was she had some light makeup on. The picture of a handsome man and a beautiful woman next to each other was somewhat pleasing to the eye.

We came across each other in a narrow hallway. There was a trace of tension in the air.

Anne was very happy. She ran over and hugged Hendrix's leg. She raised her small head as she smiled. "Daddy!"

In front of Serene, Hendrix didn't show much enthusiasm. He raised his large hand and patted her head lightly. He said faintly, "Be good now." "Mom!" Anne looked back at me, and her crystallike eyes looked very expectant. "Let's have lunch with Dad!"

"You're a good girl, but your father is a spy now. How can he have time to be with you?" I thought to myself.

Sighing helplessly, I walked in and stood between the two of them. I gathered Anne up and said, "Anne, Dad is busy with work, so we shouldn't cause trouble for him. I'll take you to meet uncle for lunch. When we go home tonight, I'll make you your favorite seafood rice, okay?"

"Okay!" She agreed without thinking too much, but she seemed to notice that something was wrong again. She looked at Hendrix over and over again, but she still didn't understand what was going on. She frowned and looked confused.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Serene, there was a hint of surprise in her eyes.

Serene was probably waiting for this opportunity as well. She looked into Anne's eyes and smiled. Her voice was very soft as she said, "You must be Anne, aren't you? You're so cute. Your father often talks about you."

"Thank you," Anne politely answered, but she couldn't hide her curiosity. "But Miss, are you one of my father's secretaries? Where is Miss Zanes?"

After hearing her say that, Serene's expression changed. She was obviously a little embarrassed.

The president of a dignified company, being seen as someone like Estella by a child. This was rather disgraceful for her.

I didn't expect that of her at such a young age, she'd already knows how to support her mother. She was such a good daughter!

I laughed in my heart for a while as I held Anne tighter. I deliberately said sarcastically, "Anne is still young, and doesn't know how to behave tactfully. Miss Forbes, you won't take this to heart, will you?" Serene was, after all, a proud and arrogant person. After composing herself, she acted as if nothing had happened. "It's fine. It was just a joke. After all, these things are bound to happen, a child can't help it." She really was a strong woman who started from nothing. Straightforward and single- minded, she didn't mind appealing to Anne at all. Rather, she focused on obtaining Hendrix by any means necessary. She didn't even have an ounce of patience for this.

It was obvious that she was set on Hendrix.

"Ding."

I wanted to kill her confidence, but the elevator had arrived. I couldn't behave like that in front of Anne, so I had to calm down and bring her out first.
