My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1824
The office fell silent once again. Something still didn't seem right, but neither Evan or I was able to figure out what it was.
All of a sudden, the sound of a door opening could be heard from behind him. Hendrix turned around and caught sight of a familiar figure in front of him.
He stood by the entrance with no expression on his face. He looked splendid with his delicately outlined features as he stood at the doorway. He looked as if he was still a well-groomed youth in his twenties. I had never been more happy and excited than I was right now, when I saw him standing in front of me. Safe and sound.
I could no longer restrain the helplessness I felt in my heart as I approached Hendrix and held him tightly. When I breathed in the familiar scent of his body, I was overwhelmed with relief, "I'm glad that you're alright," I said.
"Why did you come here all of a sudden?" Hendrix asked gently as he stroked the top of my head lightly. But then his voice turned cold when he spoke to Evan, "You can go now." Evan took the hint and left immediately. He did not want to disturb our moment together.
As the door to the office was shut, I pulled myself away from Hendrix's embrace, and frowned at him, "Where were you? Why didn't you pick up my call?".
Hendrix wasn't in a hurry to answer me. Instead, he gently led me to the sofa and sat down with me. He then slowly poured out a glass of water and handed it to me, saying, "Here, have some water first."
I couldn't keep calm. Putting the glass aside, I pressed on anxiously, "You're hiding something from me, aren't you?"
Hendrix lowered his eyes and didn't speak. He gave off a cold aura, making it impossible to guess what he was thinking about.
However, his reaction had confirmed my guess. He was in big trouble.
I pursed my lips together and reached out to hold him, telling him, "We're married."
Through hardships and love, through sickness and health, we would be there for each other.
Hendrix held my hand, and said, "While I was having that video call with you, Tyler sent me a message. He hoped that I would sign the agreement to become a shareholder with Serene."
After working in a law firm for such
a long time, I was no stranger to the legal effects of signing contracts. Once Hendrix signed it, it meant that, in the future, no matter what kind of crisis the Bate Coin business faced, including the sentencing for economic crimes in the future, he and the Roberts Group would be lumped together. They would inevitably be the first to bear the brunt of any penalties.
I thought by faking our divorce, we could throw Tyler and the others off their guards. I didn't expect that the older they got, the wiser they'd become. Instead of choosing to go with a verbal trust agreement, they preferred to have the guarantee written in black and white,
"You're considering it?" I asked.
Hendrix shook his head as he replied, "I can't let anything happen to you because your illness hasn't been cured yet, so I won't sign it."
"That's good," I said, "If it's too risky, you should put it on hold for now. With our current situation, Eddison yearns to be at peace with us and won't attack us rashly. You don't have to push yourself too hard."
"I've gone through great lengths to drive Sebastian away, so I don't have to worry about being attacked from my blind spots. I shouldn't stop now should? Now that one of my
opponents is down, I have e
chances to take the others down. So, I should speed up instead," Hendrix said.
His expression was focused and serious, and it looked like he was still engulfed in his thoughts.
No one could change what he had set his mind on. I sighed and realized that I could only support him.
I often wondered, although Hendrix was physically by my side, but I always felt that we weren't really together. I always felt that he and I were on different wavelengths. I looked at him and my heart sank once again.
Perhaps Hendrix had felt me staring at him, so he looked up and our eyes met.
There wasn't a trace of deceit in his eyes. Right at this moment, as we watched each other, I was almost certain that Hendrix still had other things buried in his heart, but he would never let me in on it. My heart felt overwhelmed for a second, I knew that I could no longer get anything out of him.
