"Follow them," I instructed. I couldn't care about anything else anymore.

Before I could get my orders out, Mullen had already stepped on the accelerator and followed their car. She was a skilled driver who could navigate the car without having to turn on the headlights. Besides, the road was brightly lit; thus, she kept a safe distance from Hendrix's car as she followed them.

Soon, Hendrix's car turned into the entrance of a hospital.

The building looked familiar to me. It was the background of the most searched picture that night-the hospital where Serene was at.

"Shall we go in?" Mullen asked.

"There's no need for that," I replied. Pondering for a moment, I picked up my handbag and got off the car, "Wait for me here."

The hospital was unusually quiet and there was hardly anyone around. Since I was worried about losing them, I did a light run to catch up. Fortunately, Hendrix and others were walking slowly ahead. I caught sight of them entering the elevator.

I stayed where I was for two seconds. After confirming that the elevator door was closed, I crept over and looked at the floor they were headed to.

The inpatient department was located on the third floor. If Hendrix came to see Serene, he would surely have stopped there. However, the elevator went down to the underground parking lot, then to the second floor. Generally speaking, this was the place where the hospital stored medicinal drugs, which was not easily accessible to the public.

Brimming with curiosity, I continued to watch as the elevator finally stopped on the third floor. To prevent coming into contact with Hendrix, I walked to the elevator next to theirs and pressed the button for the corresponding floor.

Ding-

When the door opened, I came upon a stretched corridor with a cold tinge of an atmosphere. The smell of disinfectant was strong and overwhelming. It seemed that a specialized sanitization had been done here.

"

I tiptoed out and moved in the direction of the corridor. After two turns, I saw Evan. He stood in front of a door and had a stern look on his face. He did not notice me as I hurriedly hid behind the wall the moment I saw him.

Standing close to the wall, I quickly calmed myself down. I figured only Hendrix would have Evan escort him. The latter would not do so for anyone else other than Hendrix either.

I remembered Hendrix had said previously that the medical team for the development of the antidote was in this hospital. However, his actions that night were rather suspicious and he had also disappeared earlier for a good forty minutes.

The finished product has been produced. After running the clinical trials, I can give it to you immediately," someone could be heard saying.

"Mr. Roberts, you can start now..." another voice could be heard.

Those words repeated themselves in my mind. Panic and fear overwhelmed me as my heart twisted hard.

Clenching my fists, I took a deep breath and calmed myself down.

After sorting my emotions out and straightening my clothes, I approached Evan.

The clacking of my high heels

reverberated along the corridor, and the bodyguards looked at me. In an instant, Evan and the several other bodyguards along with him, blocked my way.

"Madam Reid, why are you here?" he asked, "I'll take you back."

As he spoke, the people behind him were heading towards me to escort me away.

However, I did not budge at all. If looks could kill, they would have all dropped dead by then.

Evan's men knew who I was. They hesitated for a moment escorting me away but obviously thought better of it and stepped back.

I looked at Evan and threatened coldly, "Are you still trying to stop me?"

Evan's face turned awkward and he was speechless.

His reaction confirmed my suspicions about how Hendrix was involved in a top secret mission.

I gritted my teeth, and charged past Evan and the bodyguards. I placed my hand on the door handle and proceeded to push down on it.

Just as I was about to fling the door open, Evan's voice boomed from behind me, "Madam!"

I whipped my head almost reflexively and came face to face with a knifehand strike. I could not dodge it and lost consciousness instantly.

When I woke up, I saw the familiar crystal chandelier of the Reid family.

There was no one else in the room.

It was so quiet that I could hear birds chirping outside the window. Even though the curtains were pulled shut, the sunlight still seeped in. It was quite a dazzling sight.

I struggled to sit up, but there was a tearing pain in my neck. It hurt so

bad

I that I gasped hard and reached out to hold the back of my neck.
