My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1827
I gritted my teeth and forced myself to sit up. Then I closed my eyes and recalled the scene that had just happened.
I was so close to finding out what Hendrix was up to. Was it Evan who knocked me out?
It was too late to recall the details, so I put on my coat and walked out. I only wanted to reach the hospital's basement as soon as possible to make sure that Hendrix was safe.
As soon as I opened the door, I ran into Aaron who was about to head downstairs.
"Where are you going at this early hour?" Aaron asked while rubbing his neck.
I paused for a moment and regained my composure. Then I put a hand over my mouth and pretended to yawn, saying, "The law firm has been receiving a lot of cases recently. I'm a little busy." "Really?" He shot back with a dubious, knowing look. A moment later, he lowered his head and continued his way down, complaining while walking, "Fabian really thought you've gone to work."
I felt helpless. Although the office was under the Reid family, I was, in fact, just an apprentice lawyer. Seriously, Aaron, what did this have to do with a genuinely hardworking man like Fabian? I sneered to myself.
I followed Aaron down to the living room. Emma and Charles were having breakfast in the dining room, so I said, "Dad, I don't have much of an appetite today. I'll leave for the company first. You guys enjoy breakfast," I said.
"Wait," Aaron called out suddenly, catching up with me halfway and pulling me back, "What is more important than your health? You should have your breakfast," he nagged.
"No, I'm running late. I'm supposed to meet with a client I rescheduled with," I said quickly. I struggled to free myself from Aaron's grasp but he was too strong. He held my shoulder tightly and forced me to sit a the dining table with the others.
"Eat," he instructed and heaped my plates with mash potatoes and bacon. After our eyes met, Aaron looked towards Charles, knowing that Charles would always think of a way to make me stay.
We were brought up in a household where we could never disobey the elderly.
I had no choice but to give in. I picked up my cutlery and started eating.
When I was out the night before, I had been knocked out and brought back home. Why didn't anyone ask about what happened? It was understandable that Emma didn't, since she slept like a log, but what about Aaron, who would wake
up at
the slightest sound? Did he not know about it?
As I was lost in thoughts, Aaron continued to fill up my plate with food and said, "Why don't you put aside your cases today and rest at home? After your nap, I need you to follow me to a few places.
"Me?" I asked as I looked at Emma, "Where are we going?
"You'll know when we get there. Let's have our meal first," Aaron said, putting on a confident smile.
"Why don't you get Emma to go with you? I have something on today..." I trailed off.
"No, no way," the couple spoke together. Sensing the awkwardness, they looked at each other sheepishly.
Emma explained, "I have an appointment with someone today that cannot be moved. I'm sorry, Arianna, but I can't help you."
As I was about to speak, Aaron interrupted sarcastically, "It's the same old executives again, right? Why don't I take care of them for you?"
"Haha..." Emma laughed coldly, and
stared at him wide-eyed. 'TH be
more than grateful if you old folks don't get in the way of my plans. Right, I'm done eating, please excuse me."
As soon as Emma finished speaking, she stood up and went out with her handbag clutched in her hand.
