Hendrix was quiet as he kept his steady gaze on me. After a few seconds, he finally said, "I have nothing to hide from you. If you really want to see what it is, I will arrange for it to be ready as soon as possible. I did not expect him to be so frank. After a moment of hesitation, I nodded and replied earnestly, "Okay."

Hendrix kept his word. That night, he brought me away from the Reid family secretly and after making a few rounds in the city, we entered a biotechnology company.

When we arrived, Evan was already waiting at the door. He did not seem surprised when he saw me. As usual, he bowed respectfully and greeted us, "Sir, Madam." Hendrix nodded his head in acknowledgement.

I pulled a long face, unable to conceal my emotions.

Even after more than ten hours, the aching on my neck was still throbbing. One could imagine how hard I had been knocked out by Evan that night.

Hendrix strode in familiarly, and I followed closely behind. I tried to keep up with his footsteps.

Unlike the hospital corridor that was filled with corners and turns, the biotechnology lab was right in front of us the moment the elevator doors opened.

The lab was cold and full of glass equipment. In the middle of the room was a glass container as tall as a person. It hung in the air and contained a transparent liquid in it. In its center was a green reagent tube. Both ends seemed to be pumped with air, constantly steaming with bubbles.

I stared at the apparatus, lost in thoughts.

"Mr. Roberts, you've arrived," a voice was heard.

The familiar sound pulled me back to reality. I looked over and noticed an old, white-haired man shaking hands with Hendrix.

He was probably the man who had spoken to Hendrix behind the closed door at the hospital that night.

Hendrix was very calm, his voice authoritative as he said, "Please explain this to my wife," he said.

"Sure," the man replied and smiled.

He walked towards me and said, "Mrs. Roberts, I'm Marcellus

Shepard the person in charge of this project, and an honorary microbiology professor. The

inhibitor you've been taking recently was developed by my team under my leadership," he explained.

"Hello, Mr. Shepard," I greeted and forced out a smile. I was feeling calmer than I had a few seconds ago.

"Mrs. Roberts, please have a look," Marcellus pointed to the green reagent. He continued proudly, "This is the antidote we developed last night. For safety reasons, we will move our operations every time the finished product is produced to avoid being discovered by other parties. When you got ill last night, we had been sorting our equipment and transferring the work."

"Ill, you say?" I asked, looking puzzled as I did not remember such a thing. I felt doubtful and added, "That's impossible. I was injected before I went out last night."

Once I said that, I glanced at Hendrix's direction intentionally. Were they trying to use this sort of clumsily crafted lie to cover up the whole thing?

"It's just a suppressant, the poison has already morphed," Hendrix's deep voice could be heard saying. "So, from now on, you can't be out of contact for more than three hours."

I pursed my lips and did say anything in reply. I wondered what he said was true.

Hendrix seemed to have read my thoughts as he added, "What, did you think Evan knocked you out?"

Nope, I didn't think Evan knocked me out - I was

sure he did!

I glared at Evan who was standing at a distance from me and behind Hendrix with a peaceful expression. He looked surprisingly calm.

If he had not done anything wrong, he would not feel guilty. However, Evan had been with Hendrix for a long time, so he was good at hiding his emotions. No one could be sure whether it was an act of indifference or if he had just been creating a deliberate illusion.
