My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1832
"Are you borrowing me a car or not?" I asked persistently.
Even without turning around, I could imagine the faint smile on Aaron's face.
No matter what he had in his mind, I would not go along with him. Although it had been an eventful day so far, Hendrix was far more important to me. As long as I couldn't make sure that he was safe, I wouldn't be able to feel at peace.
Freya lent me the most expensive car generously. As soon as I got the key, I went out to get the car. Once I started the engine, Aaron knocked on the window from the outside.
I looked at him impatiently. "Aaron, can we talk about this another time? I really have something to do today."
"Don't worry, I won't get in your way," Aaron said. He leaned against the car and said, "Alas, if I'd known that you were such a workaholic, I wouldn't have established the firm for you. Now, it's rare for you to go on a vacation, and here you are, rushing back in a borrowed car."
I did not know what to say to that.
Why did he sound like a spoiled brat?
Men were indeed weird creatures.
I couldn't be bothered with him any longer, so I pulled away and headed directly to the hospital where Serene was.
I had no idea that the moment I left, Aaron had made a phone call.
I rushed into the hospital and entered the same elevator. I went up to the same floor I did previously and headed to the same basement. I had all the routes at the back of my mind.
This time however, there weren't any bodyguards present to block my entry. There was no one in sight and I was free to explore the floor.
I pushed down on the door handle and went in.
An empty, pitch-black room? What was going on?
I tried to find the light switch, and turned on the lights. The room lit up dimly but there was nothing there. It was empty. After a few seconds, I gave up.
Lost in my thoughts, I returned back to the elevator which took me back to the ground floor of the hospital. As I walked out of the elevator, my mind was a mess.
I couldn't understand what had
happened. The room was
Evan had so many bodyguarty but
guarding it earlier. If there really was nothing there, why did he knock me Out?
The only possible explanation was that someone had moved everything out.
This was perfectly possible too, as I thought of Aaron's weird behavior that morning.
Deep in my train of thoughts, I did not watch where I was going and suddenly bumped hard into someone who was walking in the opposite direction.
"I'm sorry..." I apologized.
I moved to the side, ready to let the person pass, but the person followed me to the corner. I looked up.
The second my eyes collided with Hendrix's, I pounced on him like a madman and hugged him tightly with all my might, as if it would allow me to feel his presence forever. "What's wrong?" Hendrix asked, his voice a little hoarse, but gentle.
"Nothing," replied while embracing him more tightly. I said tearfully, "Why did you return to the hospital after Heft last night? Hendrix, did you-do. you do something dangerous that you're not telling me?"
Before he could speak, I continued, "Whether you did or didn't, I only need you to remember one thing-1 want you to be well. You are not allowed to die without my permission!"
I spoke each word with much effort, as if it was a prayer for him.
Hendrix did not say anything as he pulled me into him, embracing me tightly. I could smell his familiar scent all over me.
To avoid being seen by others, our embrace only lasted a while before he let go of me and took me to a safe corridor.
I looked at him sternly, complaining about what had happened the night before in hopes to get a reasonable explanation out of him.
