My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1862
Perhaps Baldrick's invitation was just a smoke bomb.
Well, whatever it was, everything was fine. Since he came to me, I must get to the bottom of this for Hendrix.
I grabbed a coat, put it on and walked over to sit across Johannes.
"Mr. Marshall, oh, no, perhaps I should call you Mr. Roberts. You deliberately sent Hendrix away to meet me. Just what are you trying to do?" I dived straight to the point.
The past had been like a nightmare, tormenting Hendrix for twenty whole years. With the root of the issue being here with me, there was no need to beat around the bush.
To be blunt, Johannes could be considered responsible for the death of my and Hendrix's first child.
Johannes's face was still friendly. He poured himself a glass of water and said while drinking, "You're smarter than I thought."
"You flatter me. If you have nothing else to say, then I'm going to ask you something," I looked at him coldly, and the disgust in my heart grew stronger. Hendrix hadn't been able to get a good night's rest after seeing him, yet he still smiled so joyously without showing the slightest sign of panic. His heart was indeed strong and cold.
Johannes curled his lips casually and put the cup back on the table. Then, he turned to look at me and said, "I know you've always been quite the nomad since you were little. However, didn't Hendrix teach you to be patient and respectful to your elders after getting married to him?"
Oh, was he really trying to play the elder card?
What about the past twenty years then? Where was this elder of mine?
I shot him a smile, but there was only coldness in my eyes. "Yes, but there are always exceptions, no? Some elders are elders, but some are merely wolves in sheepskin."
"You're feisty," Johannes snorted,
leaning against the sofa behind him.
He spread out his hands on the armrest and crossed his legs. We
were sitting in the same position, but he lowered his gaze, seemingly looking down at me from his high horse. "Make your choice. It's
Hendrix or the child."
"What do you mean?" His expression indicated that he might hurt Hendrix.
"The twins belong to the Marshall
family's bloodline. Are you going to hand them to me on your own accord, or should I make Hendrix disappear from this world to gain the right to raise them?" Johannes's tone was calm but murderous.
Did he meet me alone because of the children?
He abandoned his own child 20 years ago. Even if he wanted to recover the family he lost, he should be making it up to Hendrix instead of using Hendrix's life as leverage to get to our children.
The apple of his eye was right in front of him, but Johannes had placed all his hopes on the babies instead. This made very little sense.
But one thing was sure; he didn't love Hendrix, nor did he care about his own flesh and blood.
The first thing he said was to make his son disappear. Did he even deserve to be a father?
I was furious but still tried my best
to keep the anger burning in my chest in check "Mr. Marshall, please understand that my children are part of the Roberts family. This will never change, Twenty years ago, you faked your death and left Hendrix to suffer for so many years. Then, twenty years later, you appeared in our lives. You never thought of making up for your mistakes but instead, want to take my children away and force Hendrix into reexperiencing the pain of
separation again. From where I'm
standing, you have no right to come
here and say what you're saying!"
I could be much less courteous with my words, but I had to swallow them to help remove the thorn in Hendrix's heart.
If Johannes still had a shred of humanity in him, he would stop to preserve the dignity I left for him.
