My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1870
Soon after, the police and ambulance arrived.
"Police, out of the way! We do not want people causing any disruption!"
The police cleared the scene, then went forward and pulled Hendrix, who was in a daze, away. "Please cooperate with us and leave immediately." Hendrix stood up expressionlessly and walked towards me.
Behind him, the police checked if Trent was breathing and reported to his colleagues, "He's not breathing and has entered a state of apparent death."
We went to the police station to make our statement. At three in the afternoon, we received news that Trent's heart had stopped beating.
The Roberts had no other relatives, so Hendrix and I handled everything. When we were finally done, it was already late at night while it was daytime in Mesville.
As soon as we stepped out of the police station, Hendrix's phone rang.
No sound came from the other side of the phone, which made Hendrix's face fall. "Why did you do
that?"
I immediately knew who it was.
Johannes was the only one who would call and pretend to care.
His voice was low and heavy, with an aura that resembled death. The resentment he radiated was impossible to miss.
He had more gratitude for the people who raised him. To Hendrix, the Roberts were far more worthy of his protection than Johannes, who was merely biologically related to him. "Johannes, that was your younger brother." Hendrix clenched his fists while trembling in anger.
"Hendrix..." I carefully held his fist in my hand to let him know that I was there for him.
However, Johannes evidently had no capacity for mercy as he said something into the phone. Before Johannes could finish, Hendrix had tossed his phone away, shattering it into pieces.
As Trent was the person in charge
of Roberts Group in Ucrebury and had social influence, the police were quick to investigate the case. By the next day, the case already had a confirmed conclusion
The police had regarded the car crash as an accident.
Hendrix then began to organize Trent and his wife's funeral.
Although the Roberts didn't have any close relatives, they did have many friends and acquaintances in Ucrebury Dalton had also done a lot of favors for many when he was still around. Therefore, many attended the funeral.
While Hendrix and I were resting in the inner hall after entertaining those who came by to give their final respect, Evan suddenly walked in. "Mr. Hendrix," Evan greeted respectfully.
Without even raising his head, Hendrix asked in a tired voice, "What did you find out?"
Evan replied, "It is as concluded by
the police- itindeed appears to be an accident. The driver of the oncoming car suddenly lost control of it, and Mr. Trent and Mrs. Kennedy couldn't avoid it, so both cars crashed into each other. There is nothing strange about the driver's background either."
Even a DNA report could be faked; it wouldn't be hard for Johannes to carry out a perfect car accident.
Johannes had used the same method in the past. He had lived a stable life until recently but had used the same trick on his own brother, dealing him a fatal blow.
Hendrix didn't believe it was an accident and ordered Evan to continue his investigation before telling him to leave.
Knocks were heard from the door.
It was the maid. "Young Master, the memorial ceremony has begun."
He had to be the one to send them off.
"Got it."
Hendrix stood up and adjusted his cuffs before walking out.
