I knew that the Saunders family was wealthy; it was just that their wealth was slightly more than what I had initially expected.

It took more than ten minutes to reach the front door of the Saunders family home from the gate. Along the way were parks and natural scenery. As it was winter, the maple leaves had fallen off the trees at the side of the road; they looked bare.

The ambience became even quieter and more desolate.

In the car, Josiah's phone rang. Judging from his tone, it should be from Hendrix.

He said a few lines, then looked at me and handed the phone over, saying, "It's Hendrix."

I pursed my lips and glanced at him. I did not reach out to take the phone and chose to ignore him instead.

Hesitantly, he took it back and spoke into the phone, "Call back later!"

I didn't know what was said on the other end. Josiah muttered an agreement, then hung up on the call. It was dead silence again in the car.

The car stopped in front of a row of bungalows. A few neatly dressed people stepped out. They might be the servants or the nannies hired by the Saunders family.

After getting out of the car, someone stepped forward and called out to Josiah, "Young Master!"

Josiah nodded and looked at me while saying, "Let's go in and talk."

Then, he turned to the middle-aged man leading in front and said, "Prepare a room for Miss Reid."

The middle-aged man nodded and then left.

Josiah and I entered the villa. There were more than a dozen middle-aged men and women seated in the hall. Two elderly people sat right in the middle.

Seeing Josiah and I enter, they all turned to look at us.

A thin middle-aged woman stepped forward first and asked, "Josh, have you found the child?"

Hearing this, my nerves, which had initially relaxed, immediately tightened.

My body trembled as I stood where I was. So, Anne had really gone missing?

My head started buzzing. Enduring the stress response from my body, I lifted my eyes to look at Josiah, waiting for his response.

Josiah frowned as he noticed my reaction. His expression remained weary as he said, with some difficulty, "I've already sent everyone out to search for her, and I have also reported it to the police. Anne will be okay!"

"Smack!" I had used up whatever was left of my strength in this slap. There was enough left to hit Josiah's face. It was sufficiently loud and painful.

Everyone in the hall immediately looked towards me. Some were furious, some frowned in confusion, and others looked at the scene with anticipation.

"Who are you? How could you simply hit someone?" The person who stepped forward to speak was a girl in her twenties. She was slightly plump with a round, chubby face.

I cast a glance at her but didn't say anything. I merely looked at Josiah, strongly suppressing my anger as I said, "Josiah, you'd better pray that Anne is safe. Otherwise, I will spare no effort in the rest of my life to make you and the entire Saunders family miserable.

"Tap!" The sound of a glass of water being placed on the table was especially loud in the quiet hall.

"Young lady, how arrogant of you!" The person who was speaking was the elderly man sitting in the middle of the hall. His voice rumbled deep, his expression bold and determined.

At one glance, one could tell that he must have been in the heyday of his power when he was younger.

I turned to look at the imposing old man. He seemed to be at least 80 years old, but his eyes still shone brightly, and he was still authoritative.

I smiled. My facial expression was still well-controlled as i said, "Would you like to wait and see, sir?"

"How dare you!" The old man exclaimed. The glass on the table had already been struck onto the ground.

It looked like he had been angered.

Everyone else immediately grew quiet and dared not speak. I looked the old man in the eye. His eyes were filled with fury and hostility as if there were any slip-ups, he would instantly cut me down to pieces.
