I hadn't really known about these girls and their situation until we were able to talk to each other.

I originally thought that the women who had been kidnapped were all young and beautiful, but I was wrong. Perhaps they were solely targeting women. As for what they wanted to do with us, we didn't know. After chatting for a while, we rested in the cave. The sound of Dahlia reciting something came to our ears, but we couldn't make out what she was saying.

The forest was one that was unoccupied. Her chanting wasn't loud but in the desolate forest, it felt particularly eerie and terrifying.

Although Tina and Rainie were scared from hearing it, they curled up into themselves and didn't say anything.

However, Naomi couldn't hold herself back as she started glaring at Dahlia. "Girl, we all know that you're praying and all, but could you please tone it down a little? You'll attract the animals."

Dahlia was a little displeased at being disrupted. She replied irritably, "God will only bless us. He does not seek to hurt us at all."

Naomi was speechless. She clutched her forehead and rolled her eyes. Seeing that she was still chanting, she said, "Please go outside if you want to pray aloud."

Dahlia went quiet then, the hum of her mouth faded away.

Tina and Rainie glanced at each other in silence in the dark.

Fortunately, nothing happened that night. We were able to survive the night without any further conflict.

Then came the next day.

The chirping of birds in the forest was exceptionally crisp. When I woke up, I saw that Dahlia had left the cave.

As Naomi slept on her knees, she was startled awake as she heard a noise, and looked around in confusion.

Her delicate face was reddish after being pressed against a surface for such a long time, which made her look both beautiful and tender.

"You're awake." I said, getting ready to get up and leave.

She nodded and rubbed her face. She let out a long breath and said, "Did someone leave?"

I nodded and walked out. She followed suit, but as she had been sitting for too long, she looked to be having a hard time getting up.

I glanced towards her and saw her looking frustrated. "My legs are numb."

I laughed and reached towards her to help her out of the cave.

Dahlia sat on a tree outside, chanting. She wasn't loud, but its droning monotony was especially effective in making one feel irritated.

Naomi curled her lips in clear annoyance. "Damn, she's doing it so early in the morning. When will she stop?"

Dahlia turned and caught a glimpse of her. She continued chanting away.

"Why don't we look around to see if there's any wild fruits or anything else to eat?" I asked. I looked up at the forest and saw that the sunlight was being filtered out by the trees, with beams of light scattered on the ground.

The morning sunshine was accompanied by the birds' chirping and the sound of the wind. I took a deep breath, inhaling the refreshing mountain air.

"Let's look around!" Naomi said as she looked towards Tina and Rainie coming out of the cave. She continued, "You two alright? If you're well-rested, let's keep going!"

The two nodded and straightened their wrinkly clothes. Turning towards Dahlia who was still chanting, Tina muttered, "She's really religious. Do you think God will really bless her?"

Naomi shrugged. "Let's go!"

The air of the forest that morning was damp, while the land was loose. When we stepped on it, we could feel how soft it was.

"Whoa!" Rainie screamed, as she crouched down at the spot she had stepped on and started digging.

After a while, a bunch of off-white mushrooms were unearthed. Some of them looked thick and sturdy while some had been crushed.

Only a few short and stout ones were intact.

"Mushrooms!" Dahlia, who had been chanting the entire time, finally spoke up. She picked up the small mushrooms under the fertile soil, wiped them clean, and put them into her mouth. Then, she chewed. Rainie looked at Dahlia in shock and worry. "Can this be eaten raw?"
