My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 896
After hiking over several mountains, the sky darkened. We couldn't find a proper place to rest, so Naomi got a little worried. "Let's keep on. I saw man-made pathways along the way, which must mean that there are villagers nearby. If we walk further, we could meet someone and ask for help."
This seemed to be our only option for the time being. When the other girls heard this, they braced themselves. For a moment, everyone was motivated to carry on.
Everyone agreed. "Then let's keep trekking. We can go home when we find villagers."
With joy in our hearts, we quickened our pace. Over the top of the mountain, we saw some lights.
We were all overjoyed. Tina told us as we walked, "After I get home, I'm treating myself to a seafood buffet. And, I'm getting those cosmetics that I'd been thinking about for so long."
Rainie also chipped in with a smile, "Then I'll invite everyone over for tea. The food will be scrumptious."
"I'd have to go and get myself some steak then. I think I can eat a whole cow." Naomi stuffed the remaining lychee we had picked during the day into her mouth. She was a pretty girl, and when she laughed, she was like Aphrodite in the dim moonlight.
Dahlia remained as unagreeable as she'd been before. She stopped praying and said, "It's God's blessing that we've survived up until now. In the future, you'd better become vegan!"
She was such a party pooper. We glowered at her and decided not to continue our conversation.
Naomi looked at me. "Arianna, what do you want to do most when we get home?"
What did I want to do most?
I couldn't help but let her simple question cloud my thoughts. What did I want to do most?
Thinking about it, I didn't really have anything I wanted to eat specifically. After a pause, I said, "Go to the person I want to see the most, hug him tight, and tell him I'm sorry!" She was a little surprised, and turned to me with a playfully scandalized look. "Is it someone you love?"
I puckered my lips into a smile and said no more.
When we arrived at the village, it was completely dark. Perhaps traffic and transportation in that remote area was inconvenient, as there were only a few people living here. The sight of the lights from the houses seemed to signal that there were only a few families around.
"Let's find a house for help!" Naomi said and entered a house along the long steps.
A dog which had been guarding that house in the backyard barked fiercely at us.
For a moment, we were so frightened that we huddled together. Fortunately, the dog was tied up.
Upon hearing the commotion, a man came out. He was a middle-aged man, his tanned skin showing under the light. He looked like an honest man.
He uttered a few words at us, but none we understood. As Tina was from the southwestern region, she realized first and said, "Maybe we've crossed the border and arrived in Myanway."
We were taken aback for a while. We had climbed over the mountains, not heading home, but had crossed the border instead.
Since none of us could understand each other, everyone panicked. The man thought we were up to no good and pointed his hoe at us, signaling for us to leave immediately.
Fortunately, then, a ten-year-old girl ran out of the house and pulled at the middle-aged man's sleeve.
She said something to him, and he calmed down.
Turning to us, he gestured with his hands. We couldn't understand what he meant. Tina tried to communicate with him by returning some gestures back and forth.
We didn't know if we'd succeeded in getting across to him, but in the end, the man let us in.
