Evan nodded and helped Rowane to the lift then frowned a little at seeing the crowd.

Sebastian redirected him, "Evan, you can help Miss Zanes to my personal elevator."

Evan was surprised and looked at Hendrix. When Hendrix didn't say anything, he smiled and rejected it politely.

But Sebastian merely laughed, "Miss Zanes sprained her ankle in my building. I am more or less at fault. Surely I can use my privilege to help ease her discomfort."

Hendrix chose to speak up then, his voice low and steady, "Do as he says and take care of Miss Zanes. Go!"

Evan nodded and helped Miss Zanes to the CEO's personal elevator.

Hendrix however, stood still in front of the lift, not budging. Sebastian was a little confused and asked, "What's the matter, Mr. Roberts?"

"I'll go down with the other lift" He answered softly, and then followed us into the staff elevator.

It was lunchtime, so the lift was packed. Hendrix stood out. Hisslender and tall physique plus his good looks had people looking at him.

It was some time before Linda was able to voice her thoughts. She asked me quietly, "What is he up to?"

The CEO's elevator was spacious. It was large enough to accommodate another person.

I couldn't comprehend the way he was acting either. But since he was already in the lift, I just kept quiet.

The elevator stopped several times on the way down, with many people going in and out. Somehow, I ended up in the corner, Hendrix in front of me.

His back was toward me and the crowds pushed us closer. I knew however that he used his body to make sure I was not squashed in the corner.

I'd hurt him deeply with my words yesterday, and awkwardness grew between us. I stared at my feet and tried to shuffle back to create more space between us. He glanced back briefly as if he knew what I was trying to do but made no comment.

Then his eyes fell on my scalded red wrists and his eyes narrowed at it but didn't mention anything.

When the elevator stopped, more people poured in.

He had no choice but to make room for them, and he was basically pressed up against me. I bit my lip and didn't say anything.

He was so close I felt his heart racing. He pursed his lips, looked at my face, and whispered, "We'll be there soon."

What he said made me felt at ease for a while. As he said, we arrived shortly.

After getting off the elevator, Sebastian, Rowane, and Evan were already waiting at the door.

Hendrix walked ahead. Linda eyed me and poked my arm, "I saw that! You two are basically in each other's arms." My face burned. I shushed her, "Don't talk nonsense!" I quickened my pace.

I heard her giggle as she followed behind.

We all left for the restaurant together. At the entrance, Hendrix told Evan something and Evan nodded and left.

The two staff members who followed Rowane noticed that Rowane's foot did not seem to be getting better. They asked in concern, "Miss Zanes, would you want us to buy you some medicine for your foot?"

"No need. It'll be fine in no time. It's not a big deal!" Rowane smiled faintly. She looked like a gentle and beautiful fairy, someone to fawn over. The two staff members felt that they needed to help. Undeterred, one stood up and volunteered, "Mr. Roberts, let me goand..."

"There's no need for that. Evan went to buy it" Hendrix waved him back, his expression as indifferent as ever.

The two people who volunteered looked a little embarrassed, but the gaze they exchanged spoke volumes. They didn't say anything further.
