Chapter 43

After Eren shot out of the room, the brunette remained pensive, she remembered Sofia… how she had forgotten the little puppy, she knew what she had promised but the girl’s life was important to her. Besides she had promised her mother that she would take care of her, she quickly got to her feet looking for clothes to wear.

The young girl ran out of the bedroom to the puppy’s room to find it empty, her heart began to pound wondering where the naughty little girl could be. He retraced his steps to look for her in the rest of the castle… but she was nowhere to be found, his despair was growing. Suddenly he saw one of the girls on duty running up and immediately called out to her.

-Have you seen Sofia?

-I saw her a while ago leaving the castle, she was going towards the forest.

-Oh my God, no! -She makes an attempt to go to look for her, but the young woman stops her.

-You can’t go, my lady, the castle will be closed. All the alphas have left because their herds have been attacked.

-What?

She didn’t quite understand what the woman was saying but she still didn’t care, she had to look for the cub. He let go of the woman’s grip and ran off into the forest, maybe he had gone to the lodge but why? Because she would come out when everything was in turmoil. Breaking her promise Valentina left the castle and went into the forest.

-They have attacked three important mandas, including your alpha. They took advantage of the alphas being away to attack,” Shane was telling Eren as they gathered.

-They’re all gone?

-Everyone, even Lucas. He was the first to leave when he knew his people were in danger.

-Mi3rda, I have to go check on my pack.

-Alpha can’t leave the castle.

-They are too strong here, no one will enter this fortress.

-I will accompany you,” proclaims Bardas, joining them in the meeting.

-Father, you cannot make that journey.

But before the old man could answer, the young maid entered the room all frightened and pale. The alpha and others watched her carefully.

-Alpha, your moon… she has gone into the forest in search of the child.

-What?

-I tried to stop her but I could not.

-F**k, Valentina…

He runs past everyone to go in search of his girl, Bardas gives a look to the beta who nods as the old man goes after his son.

He passed branch after branch, the rocks making his path clumsier than usual. The chestnut didn’t remember the path to the lodge being so complicated. Could he have gotten lost? She pushed aside several more branches and found herself in the middle of a spacious circle of pine trees. She was definitely lost, she was beginning to feel scared because she couldn’t find Sofia and she was lost, and she wouldn’t get lost.

-Valentina, what are you doing here? -The puppy’s voice gave her relief.

-Sofia, what do you think you’re doing coming out of the castle alone? Have you done this often or what? -He leans towards her.

-He gave me the scent of my alpha and I came, but it was you. You smell like him.” The chestnut blushed to the extreme.

-That’s not what matters, we must return to the castle now.

-And what’s the hurry? -A male voice made Valentina stand up. “At first I thought it was Eren, but I see I was wrong. So he’s left his mark and scent on you, he’s done a good job of disguising your human scent.

-Valentina, we must go,” says the girl, squeezing his hand.

Lucian smiles from ear to ear… he looks at the girl who didn’t take her eyes off him. It was the cub from the lake, how strange what he felt when he was near her.

-So we meet again, little puppy.

-What? -Valentina looks at Sofia who didn’t take her eyes off the man.

-We’ll take a walk, the three of us….

Eren and his father followed Valentina’s trail through the lush forest, eventually leading them to a circle of pine trees devoid of branches and rocks. The wolves looked both ways for the brunette but found nothing, her scent was joined by Sofia’s.

-They were both here,” Eren growled, sniffing the place.

-They’ve gone this way, come on,” his father encouraged, following the young girl’s scent.

Both wolves were running at the same speed, Bardas was an old sick wolf but he still had the touch. His son was concerned for his health, but also for the life of Valentina and the cub. It was strange that they would take that path, both headed for Gino’s territories. Why on earth would they go to those lands? The only thing he could think of was that… it couldn’t be, the only way they were going that way was because they were being taken by force.

-My3rda, that wolf has them,” he growls, picking up his pace, followed by his father.

-You’ve made things easy for me, me waiting for a good opportunity and you guys just handed it to me on a silver platter,” The man laughs loudly.

-What does he want? -Valentina asks, sitting with Sofia on her lap.

-From you nothing… but soon you will know what I want.

Valentina hugs the girl tightly as she senses the proximity of this guy who takes a lock of Sofia’s hair, and then lets it go.

-You’re quite a strange puppy, you’re the daughter of an albino wolf, aren’t you?

-Yes.

-No wonder! You will be a beautiful albino wolf, very soon.

The man turns around and leaves the ramshackle hut… Valentina sighs with relief and then looks at Sofia who keeps her head down.

-Do you know him?

-No.

-Don’t lie, he said they met again. Tell me what Sofia is thinking.

-I don’t know… I swear.

Lucian went outside where many of his wolves were guarding the domain. Being close to that pup made him realise something very important, something that irritated him too much but that he had to accept without any remedy in due time… he sat patiently waiting for who and he knew would go after that marked female. It was only a matter of a few minutes.

Eren and his father arrived at the edge of Gino’s domain, the young wolf looked at his father who looked exhausted, he was pushing himself too hard and if he continued like this he would quickly shorten his life.

-Father, you’d better go back and leave this to me.

-I’ll go with you!

The wolves went deeper into Gino’s lands, Eren had never been in those areas but apparently his father had because he knew where to go… after a while the alpha perceived Valentina’s strong scent coming from one direction, they hurried the pace until they finally found both girls. Eren stopped at once, growling as his back was bristling.

-You’re here at last, I’ve waited so long for your arrival.

-Let her go and I promise you a quick death,” Eren growls in the mind of the man who had Valentina pinned to his body.

-Oh no! That will happen when I get what I want.

-You’ll get nothing from me you son of a bitch,” he growls louder as he snorts his snout.

-Lucian! -I knew it was you who was behind all this.

-So you know me!

-Father…

-Lucian is Gino’s son, his only son.

-Gino? -I don’t know what you’re talking about, but what I do know is that I don’t remember anything.

-It’s logical, you’ve lost your memory because you murdered your own father.

Lucian’s mouth dropped open at this new information, he didn’t remember anything of his past life and to know that he had murdered his own father was a great shock.

-What are you talking about, old man?

-Your father was like you, only he kept his thirst for power in check. I discovered his secret and as long as I didn’t kill him he promised not to kill anyone else. You have the same gift as Gino, you must eat the hearts of albino wolves to increase your power. When you were born, Gino knew that the source of his power was in you, his son, his own b***d, the offspring of both albino wolves. So he let you grow up and when the time was right he would rip out your life to eat your heart, that would give him the power he needed to be the strongest wolf.

-What?

-But you were more cunning, you killed him first as soon as you had your transformation, you just didn’t eat his heart. If you had by now you would be a wolf of great power.

-What a great piece of information about my damn life, but I don’t care about that anymore. The old man is dead and I am alive. Now it’s my turn to do things.

-That I will not allow,” eren mumbles irritably, turning from side to side.
