Mason's

POV

"What did you just say?" Father Alex asked angrily.

"I said, I have no idea what was at stake so if you would care to explain..."

"Did I or did I not inform you that there would be lots of Alphas at the event that would be watching you? I told you this would be your starting point but what did you do? You ran away and ruined your chance!" he yelled, cutting me off.

"I didn't run away. I told you I had to use the bathroom. Besides, it was just one mistake. It's not like my entire future would come crashing down if I didn't make an impression on them. It was supposed to be an anniversary party for you all and Mum. Why not keep it that way instead of turning it into a political gathering?" I responded calmly. I know my reaction was like pouring gasoline on an already burning fire but I didn't care. I was going to say whatever I wanted to say without holding back. "Political gathering?" he repeated in disbelief.

"Alex, calm down," Father Julian said.

"I am calm. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be sitting here. Did you hear what he just said?" he replied.

"Just let it go. It's probably the stress from the party. We will talk to him tomorrow," Father Philip added.

"I'm not stressed out from the party. I meant every word I said. I don't get why you are so angry. I've done everything you've asked of me. This was the only mistake I ever made and it wasn't intentional," I declared.

"Stop adding to what you've done Mason," Father Julian berated me.

"No, let him keep speaking. This laid-back attitude of his is going to get in a bind someday. We have been trying to help him out and prevent him from making any mistakes..."

"Like you all haven't made any mistakes," I muttered. He banged his hands on the table and rose to his feet furiously.

"I've had enough of you and..," the door suddenly flew open and Vivian stepped in.

"I heard yelling when I was on my way to the kitchen. Is something going on?" she asked curiously, glancing at each of us. I stood up and headed out of the office. I heard some of their conversation as I went towards my room.

"Of course not princess, there's nothing going on," Father Philip replied.

"Why are you still awake?" Father Alex asked.

"I couldn't sleep..," I zoned out of their conversation when I got closer to my room. If Vivian hadn't intervened, I might have said something that we all never wanted to hear again. I pushed the door of my room open and stepped in. I was surprised when I met with the face of Rachel sitting on my bed. She smiled when she saw me.

"You are finally here," she stated.

"What are you doing in my room?" I inquired.

"You promised you were going to drop me off. When I didn't see you, I decided to come up here instead in case you had forgotten," she replied.

"I'm not your driver Rachel. Where's yours?" I asked, dropping my keys and placing my hands in my pockets.

"I don't have a driver," she replied, crossing her legs in front of her. Her dress shifted up exposing her thighs. I didn't know if she did that on purpose or if it was a mistake.

"Hire one. You have more than enough money to do that," I replied. She stood up on her feet and walked towards me. I noticed her steps were wobbly.

"Instead of standing there and arguing with me, why not just drop me off already?" she inquired with a wide smile.

"Are you drunk?" I asked.

She nodded."I had a drink or two, probably four while waiting for you," she missed a step, slipping on her heels, and yelped loudly. I hurried towards her and caught her right before she fell. "That was close," she sighed in relief.

"Be careful. What if you sprained your ankle?" I asked.

"But I didn't because you caught me. You will always be there to catch me, won't you?" she asked.

"We should probably go," I replied, ignoring her question. I didn't want to add hers to the list of problems I dealt with today. I tried to remove my hand that had held her by the waist and turned around but she held onto my hand. I stared at her with a questioning glance when she suddenly stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips against mine. I was shocked when she began to skillfully move her lips against mine although I wasn't responding. I would have pulled back but I wanted to confirm something.

I was probably being a jerk by doing this but I wanted to be sure of what I felt for Lexi. I was certain I felt a different kind of way when I was around her that I had never felt with any of my past girlfriends before but Rachel was different. I've known her for years. Maybe the feeling I get from this kiss would also be different. She tried to pull away but I grabbed her by the waist and pulled her closer pushing her back against the wall.

I glided my lips over hers. She kissed me hungrily and I kissed her back but I felt nothing. I pushed my body closer to hers trying to feel something, anything but she didn't smell like Lexi, She didn't make my heart beat faster or my body burn from need like Lexi did. My body didn't react at all. Instead, it was chill like still water. I kissed her neck and she gasped but it did nothing to me. A single touch or breath from Lexi could make me go wild.

I was starting to get frustrated. Why wasn't my body reacting? It reacts to Lexi only. I knew she was my mate but we never saw each other like that. There was nothing between us except anger and hatred but then why? Rachel ran her hand through my hair and wrapped a leg around my waist starting to hurriedly unbutton my shirt.

"Oh my goodness!" I heard Mady exclaim which made me pull away from her. I turned around and she had a mortified expression on her face.

"Forgive our intrusion, please continue and assume we were never here. For the record, we didn't see anything," Torres said, quickly pulling Mady along. I sighed, I had completely forgotten to shut the door. Who knows who else must have misunderstood what just happened here? Rachel pulled me towards her after they left and grabbed my face. I gently pulled away.

"Let's go. I need to get some sleep before school tomorrow," I said calmly and walked out of the room ahead of her buttoning up my shirt in the process. I had completely forgotten to take my car keys with me but I didn't want to go back in there. Thankfully, I saw the driver.

"Give me the car keys," I said. He dug his hands into his pocket and brought out the keys to the car he usually uses to drop Mady and me off at school. I took it and headed out. I could hear Rachel's footsteps behind me. I got in and she got in after me. "Did you stop because you didn't want any other person to see us?" she asked. Looking back now, I realized the gravity of what I did. I knew Rachel liked me and I just led her on. There was no way she wasn't going to get the wrong idea now. "Fasten your seatbelt," I said before starting the car. We drove in silence till I stopped in front of her house. It didn't take me long to get to her house. She lived really close to me.

"Where are your parents?" I asked when I didn't see any other car packed aside hers.

"They are out of the country. I came back alone. Why are you asking? Do you want to come in and finish what we started? Are you worried they will be home?" she asked, turning towards me. I sighed.

"Look Rachel, about what happened..."

"It was beautiful and what I have always wanted. I'm sure you feel the same way too. It's a shame Mady and Torres caught us before we could go any further," she cut me off with a giggle. "Listen to me. I.."

"From the expression on your face, I rather not hear what you have to say," she replied, cutting me off again.

"You don't understand..."

"And I don't want to understand. I'm happy and I would like to keep it that way. Have a good night Mason. I will see you in school tomorrow," she declared, unfastening her seatbelt and getting out of the car. She blew me a kiss and waved at me with a wide smile on her face before heading in. I groaned and placed my head on the steering wheel. Just what have I gotten myself into?
