Owned By Her Triplet Bullies -
(Bk 2) Chapter 73
Rachel's
POV
"Don't say that. It's fine if you don't want to see a movie with me. How about..."
"I don't know what you think this is, this thing between us but it's never going to work. Nothing can ever happen between us," he cut me off firmly. My smile faltered. "Why? Why can nothing happen between us? It already did when we were kids so what's the difference now I asked.
"That's just your misconception. Nothing happened between us when we were kids. We were just friends and we will cease to be if you keep acting like this," he threatened.
"How am I acting like? You were the one who kissed me first, remember? Why are you acting like nothing happened?" I inquired. I've noticed the sudden closeness between him and Lexi. It wasn't there before but I was certain it was now. He furrowed his brows. "I already told you it was a mistake. And I apologized for it. Let's put the past behind us and move on."
"I don't want to move on and I certainly don't want to put the past behind us," I replied firmly. If he was thinking he was going to leave me so easily, he'd better reconsider. I didn't go through all that just to be a mere friend to him. "Then I'm sorry about that Rachel. This is all you are ever going to get from me because I like someone else
"I don't want to hear it!" I said covering my ears with my hands. He liked someone else? Could that person be Lexi? But how? Why? I thought they hated each other?
"You denying it doesn't mean it's not there," he replied.
"If I don't know who it is, it won't be believable. I don't want to ever hear it. You can keep that news to yourself and also, you are free to have any fling you want but at the end of the day, you will still end up coming to me," I responded confidently. I smiled. "You should come and eat breakfast else it's going to get cold and if it's about the movie, we can go some other time. Okay?"
I walked out of the room without waiting for his response and shut the door behind me. As long as I was still breathing, I won't ever let anyone take Mason away from me. I've come too far for that and if anyone tried, they would regret it, terribly. "Is something on my face?" Lexi asked curiously. I snapped out of my daze and glanced around. Mady res were also staring at me. I must have been too lost in my thoughts and anger that I didn't know when I walked towards them and stared at Lexi.
"It's nothing," I responded with a forced smile while taking a seat. Mason came out after a while and I saw the little exchange they had with their eyes. "What have you been doing there?" Mady asked him.
"We were both talking about...things," I replied in his stead with a sweet smile while looking at Lexi. She glanced at him but continued to eat quietly.
"I will be in my room guys. I need to sort some things out," Torres said, getting up from his chair.
"Come out soon. We are all going downstairs. Nobody is staying camped up in their room today," Mady replied.
"What are we going to be doing downstairs?" he asked.
"Anything other than being indoors. Swimming perhaps?" Mady inquired looking towards us for approval.
"That sounds good. It's been so long I got a tan," I replied excitedly.
"I don't like that idea. I prefer being here," Mason said.
"I think Mady's right. We deserve some fresh air after that wild night yesterday," Torres agreed.
"So, you see Mason. You don't have a choice but to agree with me again. Everyone already does," Mady said.
"Lexi hasn't agreed," he replied curtly. We all turned towards Lexi and she paused from eating.
"Lexi also agrees with me because we are alike in many ways. I'm sure she won't refuse," Mady answered confidently.
"You and Lexi have nothing in common," he muttered. I could feel the anger brewing inside me. Why does he sound so confident? Like he has known her for years?
"How are you sure?" Mady asked with a raised brow.
"He must be saying this because you are such good friends. Don't worry, we will all be there," Torres assured her as he walked away from us into his room. My phone suddenly rang and I glanced at it. It wasn't a phone call I could pick up in front of them. "I will meet you all later," I said with a smile walking out of the room. I walked towards my room and picked up the call.
"You've insisted you are never coming back right?" my mum asked.
"I'm not. Why do you keep bringing this up?" I inquired about taking a seat on the couch.
"What do you see in that boy anyway? That you would leave your family for him for so long?" she asked, sounding displeased.
"Mum please! We are not talking about this again. I'm done with this conversation," I replied irately. My mum never liked Mason and it got worse after I got into that accident. She bore a grudge against the whole Martinez family. She was also vehemently against me coming here but I insisted.
"He was the reason why you had that accident. The reason why you will never be able to dance again. He's always right there when terrible things happen. He's not good for you dear..."
"I can decide what's good for me and what's not. Besides, you are only concerned because without me dancing, you won't be in the spotlight as the best teacher anymore. Admit it, you only ever wanted me to dance because of the fame it brought with it," I retorted, cutting her off. "How dare you speak like that to me? All because of some stupid first love?" she asked angrily.
"It's not stupid mum and I'm going to prove that to you. I don't want to be in a loveless marriage because you and dad want that for your business to thrive," I responded.
"Your dad would be so disappointed. Is this how you repay us after all what we've done for you? Because of that worthless boy?" she inquired in disbelief. "Mason is not worthless," I muttered.
"It's either you come back home right away or I will be forced to come down there and drag you along with me," she threatened.
"You can't do that..," I heard a loud beep at the end of the line. "Hello mum?" she didn't respond which meant she had hung up. I sighed out of frustration.
"But don't you think we should listen to her? She might be right," Leina said.
"Don't start with me Leina. How is she right?" I asked irately.
"Think about it. Even Mason doesn't want you here. You heard him, he likes someone else. What if we are just wasting our time? With the way things are going, I don't think he will ever feel the same way," she explained.
"He will feel the same way. He has to. I don't care if he likes someone else. Those feelings will go away soon enough," I replied.
"How are you so sure about that? What if it doesn't?" she asked.
"Then I will make it go away. I have to prove to mum and dad that I was right. I didn't come all this way just to go away with nothing," I answered.
"Ask yourself this, are you doing this because you genuinely like Mason or because you want to prove a point to your parents?" she asked. I ignored her and went into the bathroom to take a shower in preparation to go downstairs. I brought out my swim wear after I was done and wore it. I took a towel and walked out of my room.
When I got to the huge swimming pool on the last floor, there were already lots of people present. It looked like a little party.
"Rachel, over here," Mady said, waving at me. I headed towards her with a smile. She was in the pool and Torres was sitting on the side beside her.
"What is this? Did you throw a party?" I asked in surprise. I thought it was going to be just us.
"I wasn't planning to but it kind of got out of hand. Somehow, some people found out about it and decided to invite themselves. It got out of control and here we are. But hey, the more the merrier right?" she inquired with a smile. I nodded in response. I glanced around looking for Mason and I finally caught sight of him. But Lexi was with him again. He never seemed to be alone these days. She's always tagging along. An idea suddenly occurred to me.
"Gather around everyone. Let's spice up this party by playing a game," I said in a loud tone.
"I love games. Which one is it?" Mady asked curiously.
"It's called truth and kiss. Whoever doesn't want to answer a question will have to kiss the person who asked it," I replied with a devilish smile. He likes her? Well, let's test how much she likes him.
