Chapter 61: A Bitter Rivalry

As we ran towards the lake we found Luke truck and that made us understand that they were around. I got to the lake first and I jumped inside my heart beating fast as I searched the body of water then I saw her and I swarm quickly towards her and grabbed her hand swimming up and out of the lake.

She started coughing water coming out of her mouth and I hugged her. I got scared but I knew she was okay.

I looked over and saw Luke and went towards him thinking and started swing punches his way.

"You asshole, you didn't take care of Lyra, she almost drowned!" I shouted as I continued swinging at him.

"Kyle, stop," Aria said as she rushed forward.

"Didn't see you how she almost drowned. He was supposed to take care of her!" I said furiously as I wanted to hit him again when Lyra held my hand.

"Stop blaming him, he tried his best to protect me. If you knew you could do better, why did you disappear? Where did you go since morning? Stop hitting him or I will have to start defending him. Don't make me do that," Lyra said her eyes filled with fury and I suddenly felt ashamed.

"I... I wanted..." I could finish what I wanted to say. I continued stuttering and she just went to meet him.

"Luke are you okay? Did he break your nose?" she asked as she carefully checked his face.

It was annoying, I could not bear it and face the fact that she was taking care of him. I felt bitter and I didn't really understand why.

"Let's go," She helped him up and walked past me like I wasn't there. I deserved it though. I acted in a very irrational manner.

"I can drive," I said my voice barely above a whisper but I am sure she heard it because she turned back to look at me and she responded, "Take yourself home then,"

I felt like someone ripped a hole in my chest and squeezed at my heart. it was fucking painful and I felt like hitting something.

Aria followed them, she drove Luke's truck and I felt like shit.

I went to my truck and drove back to the havern then I went for a run. I needed to clear my head. I needed to get rid of whatever it is I feel.

I stayed out that night.

The next morning, I returned to the havern to find Luke standing outside, "Hey man," he greeted, but I ignored him and continued to make my way towards the house.

"Hey Kyle you don't have to be like that. you barely even know me man," Luke said but I pretended not to hear him and I continued walking inside.

I knew I was being an asshole right now but I didn't care. He was always with Lyra and that pissed me off, plus I didn't owe him anything.

That evening we had a meeting which I wasn't planning to attend when Lyra came to my door and told me it was time for the meeting and I was expected to be there.

This was the first time she talked to me since the lake's incident and I honestly couldn't blame her. I was acting childish but I couldn't help it. I didn't like seeing her with that dude and I didn't know what to do about it.

I meeting wrapped up and she didn't even look at me once. It was a meeting about the spies and what we could do to find them. I knew no one in our inner circle was a spy but I didn't trust any other person. Especially the new wolves. Luke could be a spy.

When I brought it up in the meeting, Lyra shook her head and said she could believe me that I had been acting highly disappointing these past few days and I could say nothing. I couldn't believe me either. I was acting like a child seeking affections.

That evening, I decided to cool my head and I went for a swim in the spring water at the back of the havern. While I swimming an unwelcomed person made himself know. As I stopped swimming and got ready to leave the pool, he charged towards me and tackled me to the ground.

We threw a few punches as each other then he managed to pin me and he stared at me with a bloodied smile.

"Kyle, I need you to fucking get a grip of yourself, your actions are hurting Lyra and you need to be true to yourself. Tell her how you feel about her and stop going after me, I am not your problem. You are just in denial and frustrated and looking for who to take it out on but I need you to know that I am tired of your sick game.

You have feelings for Lyra? Fucking grow up, and talk to her about it man. This shit is getting old. I am not even your enemy," Luke said to me as he spat out blood from his mouth due to the busted lip I gave him and honestly, like the psychopath I am the sight of it satisfied me.

I loosened his grip from my body and pushed him away.

"I don't know what the fuck you are talking about. What do you mean by I should face my feelings and no I am not hurting Lyra, you are. I and Lyra were just fine before you came by to ruin everything. We never had any argument and shit was going fine. Since you came, we have been arguing over little things and that is all you fault!" I growled.

"Can you hear yourself? You are blaming me for arguments you caused," Luke shook his head and laughed.

"She is only training with me because I haven't perfected my fighting techniques, but you have. You even helped train her, that is why she has been training with me." Luke shouted and I suddenly felt like an idiot.
