Reject Me Again, My Alpha
Chapter 10

” Anthea isn’t it ?” I heard a strong male voice behind me. I was just about to make my escape out of the door. After Enzo had left , I’d quickly finished and wrapped a towel around myself. Then I got upset , because I couldn’t put my muddy soiled clothes back on. I would have to leave the Alpha’s house with just my towel. How embarrassing that was. I hadn’t even begun to process what had just happened. I was f*****g stupid. That was all I knew. I knew me and Enzo couldn’t mate. I also knew that giving into our cravings this way. Was only going to hurt me in the end. My heart , the stupid thing it was. It was already getting attached , with my heart and my wolf now getting on side with us having Enzo as our mate. It was only my mind and logic stopping it.

When I came out of the bathroom, Enzo was nowhere to be seen. But a pile of female clothes with a note saying , put these on, I borrowed them off of my sister for you. Laid on the bed. See that , if he stayed the mean Enzo I would be fine. But the Enzo that protected me today and the one who turned up outside my bedroom window and the one that left me clothes. He was the one that was going to break my heart.

Clearing my throat, I turned around and saw the alpha standing behind me. A kind smile on his face. ” That’s right, Alpha ” I said quietly, a nervous tremor in my voice. He nods and takes a step closer. ” I want to apologise to you Anthea, I never realized how hard you had it out there with the rest of the pack and I’m assuming your parents too. I ask this because you weren’t on the run, or at the presentation of your brothers’ mating. The fact is, I forgot about you, Anthea, because it seems you are hidden. Also, it was you who ran off to make the first shift on your own a few weeks back, am I right ? “.

s**t , that stung. That the Alpha had forgotten about me. But I suppose with all the people that live here , I was just one of many he had to look after. And I guess he was right , I was hidden, and for this reason , it seems it worked. But what now ? What now that he does remember me ?

Looking down, I started to fidget. My nerves were kicking in but time. I can’t lie to the Alpha. ” No need for an apology Alpha , you’re a busy man. And I keep out of the way, mostly yes ” . I glanced up and his eyes that reminded me so much of Enzo’s were studying me. What was it with these men that made you feel like they could see everything? ” Out of choice ?” He asks. I let out a shuddering breath ” Sometimes , today is a fine example of why I do not venture in places it is busy, very often. Also , I guess a little bit of not my choice is thrown in there. My parents have suffered and still suffer great embarrassment because of me. You saw that at my brother’s mating presentation “.

He nods , a hand comes up and strokes his chin. ” Anthea , as an alpha, I have always stuck by one belief. And that is that the fates have a path for us all. It has kept me a true and fair Alpha. Strong too, because I follow that belief and if I see injustice to it I act upon it. Do you believe you were born the way you are for a reason ?” He asks. And I was afraid I was about to disappoint him, because I saw no reason for that. So I just don’t answer , and the silence is all the answer he needs.

” I see. Anthea I would like to offer , well not offer. But assign you a work role. Here at the Alpha house. One of the cleaners has recently had a cub and is taking some time off to be at home. You will fill her role , be apart of the pack. And have your own responsibilities outside of your own home. I will send a message to your parents. Be here for eight in the morning ” he smiled at me, turned and left. I was left stunned , and a little frightened. One of what my mothers reaction will be and two, being here nearly everyday. Where Enzo is, it wouldn’t turn out good. Not in any way, shape or form.

Leaving the house , I took all the quieter paths home. When I got in, my mother was pacing the kitchen. Her eyes snapped at me and then down at my clothes. ” What happened Anthea ? Everyone is talking about your altercation with Bianca and that Enzo carried you off ? Where did he take you and whose clothes are those ?” Not are you OK ? Did Bianca hurt you ?

I expected nothing less. ” He took me to the Alpha house to get cleaned up and he left me his sister’s clothes to wear “, I muttered. She stood looking stunned at me. ” Was anything else said ?” She asked and I warred with myself whether to tell her I had a new job. I decided I should. The alpha said he was sending a message. ” I bumped into the Alpha and he assigned me a job in the pack ” her eyes pretty much fell out of her head. Then she looked worried ” What job ?” She sounded almost too scared to ask. I know what she’s thinking , she doesn’t want it anywhere too public.

” Cleaning at the Alpha’s house. One of the ladies who did it before just had a baby. So he gave me that job. ” Now she looked like a suffocating fish. Her mouth was opening and closing, with nothing coming out. I rolled my eyes and walked past her to my room. I needed to be alone. I needed to patch up the wound that Enzo had left behind when he left me knelt on that shower floor. But mum follows with her ability to speak back, so it seems. ” Anthea , not just anyone gets to work at the Alpha’s house. The Luna usually interviews them and then they’re put on trial. To work there is an honour ” she said in disbelief. She obviously thinks I don’t deserve that honour. It’s the unspoken words she doesn’t say. ” I don’t know mum , he just told me that’s what I’d be doing. I have to be there by eight in the morning. He said he is sending a message to you “. Just as I said it, a loud knock sounded throughout the house.

Mum looks at me, then at the door, then back to me, she rushes off and I can’t help but follow her. When she opens the door , I nearly fall through the floorboards. He didn’t just send a message , the alpha stood there at our door. He smiles at my mum then looks past her to me and makes a little nod. ” Could I speak to you on the porch for a moment ” he says, looking back at my mum. She looks back at me , she looks at me accusing, like I have done something wrong. But when she looks back at the alpha, although I can not see her face, I hear her voice ” of course alpha”. She sounds chirpy and polite, I can only imagine the mega-watt smile she’s giving him as she steps out and closes the door.

Of course, I snuck closer to the door to listen , who wouldn’t when the conversation was clearly going to be about you. Lowering my breathing , when my back was flush against the wall next to the door. I concentrated hard, my hearing ability wasn’t as keen as the rest of the pack. But I still did have some enhancements.

” Dion , I can only apologise for my neglect when it comes to your family” the alpha spoke first.

” I dont understand alpha , we do not feel neglected ” my mum answered, sounding confused.

The alpha sighed ” I mean in regards to Anthea , over the last couple of days I have had it come to my attention that the pack do not take kindly to her and therefore take it out on you as a whole family. First off with the mating and then with what happened with Anthea today. Having the chance to speak with Anthea today , I fully realized the extent of it all. So , I’m here to vow that I will not tolerate this behaviour anymore. Not from anyone in the pack ” the alpha said, and the implication in his voice was evident and emphasized tone of his voice on the word anyone , that he was also extending that warning to my mother too. It made me cringe about the potential backlash I could get for this , the fact he was scolding her too.

” Alpha , I , well. It has been hard from the day she was born. We have been treated like an embarrassment “. My mum stumbles on her words , which wasn’t usual for her. She was normally so collected.

” I’m seeing that and you should have come to me with this matter. But that is something we can not change , Dion. So let’s go from here on out. I wish for Anthea to be mingled among the pack. We are the strongest pack for miles , but I also like to think we are also the most respectable. That means respecting everyone the fates blessed us with. So , I hope she will be on every pack run , and if you are nervous about how she will be greeted by the pack. Then no bother , she will run with me and my family. I will personally put Enzo on her protection. She will also work at the pack house , so pack members can see she is accepted by the alpha family. No more hiding her away , it is doing your family no favours, as we have seen with your sons mating. I also understand his mate is living here with you , for her family has basically turned there back, so I will personally see to that they have a home for themselves by the end of the week. In future, Dion, I expect matters of this nature to be brought to my attention. I’ll be keeping an eye on Anthea ” my heart beats wildly at his words. Pack runs , Enzo’s protection, the alpha accepts me.

Could this mean , could it mean he would accept me as Enzo’s mate? It made me nervous, after a lifetime of being secluded. To be thrust back into socializing this way , made me feel self conscious. I would have to shift in front of the pack and show them my wolf.

” I understand Alpha and thank you for this support ” my mum said , it sounded like the conversation was ending. So I was about to move away from the door. When I heard the Alpha’s voice again, ” Dion , incase I was unclear , I am not sure what happens in your family home. But this all extends to your family too. It is time you accepted your own daughter. I can feel your feelings towards her through the alpha link. And as a father of a daughter myself. I am saddened by your feelings towards your own “. Pain hit me like a ton of bricks. I didn’t sneak away from the door this time. I ran , as I felt like all the breath had been knocked from my chest.

I ran to my room and slammed the door shut behind me, locking it. I always knew mum felt some kind of way about me. But sometimes I just tell myself it was me reflecting my own feelings about myself onto me. A mum is programmed to love her child no matter what, right ?

I threw myself onto the bed and buried my head in my pillow as sobs tore away at me. Mum never came to my room to talk or anything. I didn’t go out to eat with the family , even after Peter insisted I did from the other side of my locked door. I fell asleep and dreamt of the two wolves again. I woke up with a start as knocking sounded lightly on my bedroom door , in the middle of the night. Disturbing my dream. It was my father’s voice on the other side, quietly calling my name. I didn’t want to go open it , I wanted to go back to sleep and finally get to the end of this recurring dream I kept having. But curiously, I went and opened the door, dad came in with a plate of cookies. He looked uncomfortable and unsure, and that wasn’t like dad either.

Stepping back so he could fully come in, he closed the door softly behind him. For a minute he didn’t speak , just looked around my room instead of at me. Eventually, he sighed and placed the plate down on my dressing table. ” Anthea, we know you heard what the alpha said , your mum. She is , well you know, she’s a proud woman. But the talk the alpha had with her today , I believe will be good for her. You just need to give her some time. She is worried about what it will be like now. The alpha wants to expose you to the pack, the alpha thinks it’s a good thing. But your mum is worried it may just make things worse. Not just for us , but for you. I worry how you feel about it all too , so if your not comfortable with any of this , all you have to do is say, and I will go speak with the alpha. It’s up to you though. I , I mean. Well, we just have always worried about you, Anthea, ” he says.

I don’t say anything back, just nod , basically mum wants me to stay hidden. But put it so, it’s my call. That way they won’t get in trouble because of the alpha. ” I have to be up early to be at the alpha’s house ” is all I responded. He looks at me a little disappointed, but nods and gives a small smile. ” I’ll let you sleep, then, goodnight kiddo ” he says, and leaves my room. I didn’t sleep at all again and turned up at the alphas groggy and tired.
