Chapter 138

I couldn’t see Devon , since he shot off and Ryken fell. I kept trying to get to him , but every time I moved, another dark witch came running at me. I didn’t like it, but to fight them I had to dig into that dark power I had not wanted to use. But what choice did I have when they were pulling power from the source they were ? I saw Dataneye making her way around towards Ryken. The big dragon was still breathing, so I was hopeful he wasn’t too hurt. But the way he had been twisting and turning as he fell looked like something was seriously wrong.

I was about to try and get over there again when that voice from earlier returned. A whirl of wind surrounded me like a barricade. ” Talk ” the voice echoed like a whisper. As I looked around, I saw witches trying to get to me and they couldn’t. The dead witches had put up some sort of wall. ” You took the file. It’s all in there, the council captured the wolves , and determined they were under some sort of dark magic influence. Those wolves had to be kept locked up their entire lives and not trusted to be let out. They died in the cells , they couldn’t remove whatever compulsion had been put on them ” I rushed out panicking. They had been absent in this fight until now , and now they were here. This was my chance to convince them , and if I failed, they could easily turn around and hurt the ones I loved.

” It could all be lies. Made up by you to make us shy away from hurting you ” the voice whipped out, echoing, around the wind around me. ” Why would I ? I don’t want to be here. These dark witches are coming after me , just like my parents did. My parents wanted my magic to make them unbeatable monsters. This coven supported that too once upon a time. A mix of wolf , vampire , demon, you name it, they wanted to be made into this unnatural thing to be invincible. ” I took a breath and licked my lips ” I had to run my whole life , to fight against that madness and darkness. You were not dark witches , you were good. Tanya and Harry all of a sudden pulled away from the pact they had with my parents. Around the time you were murdered. Now they say a seer had predicted me and their son having a child that would lead the dark witches. I am not here to attack you , I am just here for my freedom. Our fight is not with you but with them. I have a mate. A wolf I love , who makes me feel so happy. And they wanted to destroy that , they wanted to force me to have a child with that monster they had of a son. Why would you support such evil ? You were pure good witches ” I asked the voice.

The wind around me stopped dead. The barrier was gone , leaving me in the fire of the dark witches that had surrounded me. ” Violet ” Anthea shouted my name, she was standing where she had helped Penny down. Penny beside her, the dragon smack behind them as they backed up into Ryken looking like they were protecting him. Enzo had just sunk his teeth into a dark witch’s neck and flung its body away. Looking in her direction, she waved her hand at me and I felt my whole body shift. And then the vision infront of me changed too. Devon was on his knees , Tanya in front of him. Dataneye was laid out on the floor. She looked unconscious.

She must have sensed me behind her because she turned her head to look at me , an evil smirk on her lips. ” Oh good , you can watch me kill your beloved mate ” she laughed. ” Tanya just let this go , let these witches go and be at peace. You are holding their spirits here for your own gain. They have seen the evidence that the council put together , that the wolves were under the compulsion of dark magic. Then you all turned up here just months later “. I wasn’t sure if she had believed me. I could have just f****d it all up with the dead witch. She had just left the conversation when I was questioning her coven’s beliefs.

” Let it go , LET IT GO. You just killed my son. Took him away from us , his life is gone ” she screeched at me. ” Like you were willing to do to me ? Take my life away and make me a prisoner here for your gain. What’s the difference ? Hasn’t enough damage been done here already ? “I asked her, trying to reason with her. She gritted her teeth and moved her body to angle it more towards me. I can see Devon’s face clearly now. He was eyeing her like he was seconds away from ripping her head off. But something was stopping him. I couldn’t see what she had done , but she had done something.

” You have spent too much time away from your own kind Violet , you are forgetting what we are like. We do what we need to do to survive, we don’t have remorse or feelings. It’s always the next step, the next move. Tactics , manipulation and death are just a part of the package of having what we have inside of us. You got weak , you gave into the conception of happily ever after. The easiest kind to manipulate is those that dream of love and happiness. It makes them too hopeful that everything is a dream. It f*****g isn’t. Your parents were too soft on you. They didn’t focus on their prodigy , too focused on those idiotic ideas of theirs. You can’t create power , you take it ” she hissed.

As she did, a body flew over our heads, one I recognized as Rhiala. She landed a few feet away from us, barely moving. A wolf came charging through and skidded to a stop at her side whining as she nudged her with her nose. It must be Tiffany. Then Harry came into view , he looked at Tanya and grinned when he saw Devon on his knees infront of her and me standing there. He took his arm up and rubbed it along his cheek, smearing some b***d that had been pouring out of a cut on his cheek. His eyes darted back to the pair , and he sneered, walking over slowly towards them. Tiffany noticed his approach and turned her body , putting herself protectively over Rhiala’s still form, growling and snapping at Harry.

Tanya stopped paying attention to us and looked at Harry with glee , because of what was obvious he was about to do. I was floundering. How did I help stop this ?

As I watched on stuttering , unable to think what to do. The same barrier that had landed around me earlier appeared around Tiffany and Rhiala. You could just barely see through the misty barrier to see them slowly fade away. The wolf was howling and looking around in fear as to what was happening. Before they disappeared from sight all together. At first I was freaking out until I started to laugh as a thought hit me. Rhialal had said the voice made her feel like it was her mate , her dragon recognized it. Just as they were about to be in trouble, the female voice came and helped them , so I hoped. I hoped it had just taken them away from the danger and not done something else.

Harry looked back at Tanya in confusion. ” What is happening ? Why did they just protect them ? Why did they just remove a mutt from being killed ? “Harry snapped at Tanya , telling me he was thinking the same thing that I was. Tanya looked scared for the first time. I had never seen her look that way. She looked at me and then down at Devon. She raised her hands towards Devon and I ran at her planning to tackle her , but something froze me. I looked up to see Harry glaring at me. He was stopping my movements. I watched as a knife appeared in her hand and she walked herself behind Devon. She put the blade at his throat and looked up at me with a manic smile on her face.

” DEVON ” I shouted in horror. She grabbed his hair and pulled his head back , revealing more of his throat. And my whole world stood still. It was like I could see the blade move every little fraction , I saw her put pressure on it and I saw the first droplet of b***d drip down the silver shiny surface. And I didn’t register anything else. I was too focused on shutting down. Too focused on thinking about a life without Devon in it. So it didn’t register that her movements stopped , the blade still on his throat but frozen. I felt like it took me forever to start to acknowledge the things around me again and the first thing I noticed was how quiet it had gotten. How still everything had become. Looking around me slowly, I saw everyone frozen. Literally frozen to their spots and movements they were in.

” Are you deceiving us ? “the female voice said from behind me. I turned to look and gasped at around fourteen ghostly figures standing there. In the lead was a beautiful woman with beautiful brown skin and eyes emerald green, her hair wild and curly as it flowed around her shoulders. All of the women behind her looked just as beautiful even if they were looking at me like they didn’t trust me. ” No , no I am not. I am so sorry for what happened to you all , but what you believe happened didn’t. I know these people , and trust me, what happened to you is definitely something they would do “, I pleaded.

She looked behind me at the scene of Devon and Tanya . ” We heard her speak just now , we have seen her speak of harsh things before. But nothing like that ” she turned her head and looked off into the distance. ” We have held onto this hate for so long we are not sure how to let it go “, she spoke lost. ” Don’t let it go , you don’t need to, but just place it with those that deserve it ” I told her. She looked back at me and smirked. ” It could all still be false information ” she said, raising one eyebrow at me. I looked around me and my heart broke at the scene. ” Maybe ” I admitted to her. ” The file is not solid proof , but what is? Well, it is in the fear on the faces of those around us scared of losing the ones they love. Even if wolves did do this to you under no compulsion. It wasn’t these wolves. They are kind and caring and they love hard. They don’t hurt people unless they’re a threat , they’ve opened up their pack and their home to me. And I had at one point been a threat to them , well, not me but the person that was in my body. They could have killed me , but they didn’t. They saved me. You can’t punish this pack for what another pack could have done. “

I looked back at her , tears running down my face. “And the female wolf with the female dragon , she is apart of this pack ? ” she asked me. I nodded my head. She nodded and looked back at Devon. ” I suggest you remove that blade from your mate’s throat. If you and this pack of wolves are deceiving us , you won’t make it off of these lands ” she warned me. Then they all faded away from my sight. Moving quickly, I yanked the knife from my mate’s throat. Then I grabbed him and yanked him away as hard as I could. Dragging his body away from Tanya’s reach. Just before, everyone swung back into action.
