Rejected, Broken And Forgotten -
Chapter 88
Dennis’ POV
I am waiting for the messenger my brother is sending me. I can not wait to help the wolves as they have released my soul, and I can feel it again. I feel ashamed about my past, but I know I can redeem myself and become what I once was. I want to make it up to the humans around my Castle and help them rebuild the villages we destroyed. I want to help the gypsies as I did them all wrong. I feel ashamed of attacking them when I knew I should not have. I hope they can forgive me and will not curse me. I am hopeful that the King and Queen of werewolves will help me after I have helped them. I want to see my brother dead! I hate him for not giving me a choice. He just turned me into a vampire. I would have chosen not to become a monster and die as a human on the battlefield. He is the monster, and now he will pay. I still need b***d to live, but I can see the sun again. I can feel the warmth again and be like a human again. I want to be the good person I was. I want to help others, which is the start of my new life.
“Duke, here is a messenger from your brother,” One of my generals says. He smiles at me as we have all been waiting for this messenger.
“Let him in,” I say. Cadilla has managed to hide our tattoos. I am happy as I do not want that evil, no-good a*****e of a brother of mine to see my tattoo. I can not wait to surprise him when he attacks the wolves, and we start to attack them from the inside. I always loved my nephew, Luca. I never had children, as my wife died at a young age before we could have children. I always wanted children, but I could not do it without Amelia. She was the love of my life. That is why I wanted to die on that battlefield. I could not think of living without her for eternity.
“Duke Dennis, Duke, Mikhail is asking for your help,” The messenger says after we greet each other.
“What help?” I ask. I am pretending not to know about their troubles with the werewolves.
“We have trouble with the werewolves. They are killing us off faster than we can rebuild an army,” The messenger says.
“How is that my problem?” I ask.
“If Duke Mikhail dies, you will die as well,” The messenger says. I laugh.
“What if I want to die?” I ask.
“Your niece and nephews will die,” The messenger says. He knows that Dennis does not want to live but that he loves his niece and nephews. So they are playing on his feelings. Mikhail told him to say that, as he knows, his brother does not care to die, although he thinks his brother is dramatic and wants to live like all of them.
“Let’s go. We can take our SUVs as they have blackout windows, and the sun will not affect us.” I say. I hope Luca knows the difference between my vampires and Mikhail’s, but somehow I think the tattoo will be visible to him. Since he has one, he should know the vampires with a tattoo who are there to help him. I want to see my nephew, but it will be dangerous to go to him. I do not want Mikhail to discover him in the tunnels. I know the wolves will start their attack through the tunnels when everyone is ready, and I want to be there to ensure they can get in and protect them from the inside. I think about the King and Queen as we drive to my evil brother’s Castle. I will have to pretend to be on his side, and I know it will be difficult as I hate the bastard.
“How is my brother doing?” I ask the messenger.
“He is doing well, but all his plans have failed, and he needs your help with the wolves,” The messenger says. I keep myself from snorting and pretend to look out of the window of the SUV. We look like a giant army coming to help him, but I know we will not allow that bastard. We are here to kill him once and for all. I wish the Sun God did not say in his curse that he would live for eternity. It was the biggest mistake the Sun God made. He should have cursed him to live for a while and never see the sun again. Oh well, I guess the gods can make mistakes as we do. I am just happy that I can correct my errors. A few of my men stayed behind, and they were busy giving the towns food and supplying them with money so they could go on again.
“What are his plans?” I ask, pretending not to know anything about the evil plans the wolves told me about. They told me about the dogmen and everything else he had tried.
“I will let him tell you, Duke,” The messenger says. I can not believe he can not feel my hatred for my brother. We drove through the early morning hours, and I tried to keep as far away from my brother as possible. Driving is slower than running as we must take the roads and can not run as the crow flies. We have to go through the mountains, and I smile as I see some of my wolf friends running along with us. I know it is not to attack us but to protect us from any attacks. We reach my brother’s Castle early in the evening and wait until the sun has set before we get out of the SUVs. As I step out, I can not help but feel sad. My parents lived here all their lives and were good humans. My brother killed them before the curse, and I think it was better for them. I do not believe they would have been able to see us like this. I was not under the curse as I was not at this Castle or part of his family. Only my brother, his wife, and his children were cursed.
I get out of the SUV as the moon shows her head. I know we will not have a pleasant conversation as I see my brother walking out of the Castle. He does not look happy at all. I think he will be pleased with his new army and the men I brought him, but something tells me something is wrong, and he is not happy. I walk over to him, and he looks at me with a sarcastic smile.
“Well, it has been a long time, brother. I did not expect you to come so quickly. I have more than enough vampires now, but we can beat the bloody wolves with you by my side. Someone or something is killing my vampires inside the Castle, and I was hoping you could tell me if there are secret tunnels under this Castle. You were always father’s favorite,” Mikhail says.
“Well, hello to you too, and no, as far as I know, father never allowed tunnels under the Castle. You could have just sent a human plane over the area and let it scan the area for tunnels or something,” I say, knowing very well that my brother already did that. I will not tell him that I know there are tunnels and the one killing his vampires is Luca.
“Well, welcome home then. We have a lot of things to discuss. Let us go inside and talk about what we need to talk about. Why did you come?” Mikhail asks as we walk into his study. I remember the days when it was my father’s study, and I hate my brother even more for what he has done to my parents. I say nothing about it and walk around the study.
“Have you looked for the maps and plans of the Castle here?” I ask.
“I have, but found nothing. You have not answered me yet! Why did you come to help me?” Mikhail asks.
“I came here because of my niece and nephews. You did not give me a choice and turned me into a vampire against my will, so I am not here for you,” I say.
“I saved your life, and you would have died on that battlefield,” Mikhail says.
“I wanted to die, you i***t! I did not want to live without Amelia anymore, but you turned me and gave me no choice,” I say.
“Oh, come on! Everyone wants to live!” Mikhail says.
“Let us not talk about it, or I will kill you and forget about my niece and nephews,” I say.
“Fine, the wolves will come for us, and I hope you know you might die alongside me,” Mikhail says.
“I am here to save my niece and nephew. I will not let you die,” I say. My brother tests me to see how far I am willing to go.
“Well, that is good to know. So will you help us find out what is killing our vampires in the Castle,” Mikhail asks.
“I will try to help you, but if you want my honest opinion, I think it is the ghost of our father. What you have done to him and mother, I can not blame him if he is haunting you,” I say. I like to make my brother more paranoid than he already is. I know he believes in the supernatural as he is a supernatural being, but I do not believe he believes in ghosts. I will make him believe in ghosts and make him so superstitious that he will start believing in ghosts.
“Nonsense, there is no such thing as a ghost that can kill the living,” He says.
“Well, are you a living creature? Are vampires living creatures? Can ghosts kill a vampire? I do not know, but I am telling you, if there are no tunnels and the wolves can not come in here, I have no choice but believe you have a ghost that can kill in the Castle,” I say. I see Mikhail starting to worry, and I like to make the bastard worry. I smile and walk over to the wall. I make sure to knock on the wall, and it sounds solid.
“If there were tunnels, the wall would sound hollow. So I do not know why and how you can think there are tunnels under the Castle. They will have to have secret entrances, and they will be behind the walls,” I say. I knock on the other walls and know they will not sound hollow. My father was not stupid and would not let there be hollow sounds.
“You are right. I did not think about it,” Mikhail says. He starts looking around him as if he is getting paranoid.
“How are your men dying? Are they getting staked?” I ask.
“I do not know, but it looks like it,” Mikhail says.
“Well, I do not think you have anything to worry about. The ghost will have to have a white oak stake, and I do not believe they exist anymore,” I lie. I know the werewolves have a few white oak stakes, and they will use them against Mikhail in the final battle.
“I am glad I asked you to come here. I was paranoid, and now I feel so much better. You were always the logical one,” Mikhail says. I smile on the inside.
“I am only here to help my niece and nephews. Do not forget that. I do not love you and do not see you as a brother. I think you are a menace, and I hope there is a way to make you die without my niece and nephews dying as well,” I say.
“I have no illusions about us, brother. All I want is your help, and I know we have no love for each other. I once protected you all the time and even gave you eternal life, but you never appreciated it,” Mikhail says.
“if you expect me to thank you for “saving” my life, I am sorry, but that will never happen,” I say as I ask the men to lead me to the tower where I will be staying. I do not trust my brother, but I also know he can not do anything to my men or me as he needs our help. Help he will never get.
