Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 119
After crying for a few minutes, I was finally able to get a grip on myself. I told her that I had forgiven her for all the things she had done to me and I asked for her forgiveness as well, I promised that I would love and raise Lydia just like my own child and I then said my final goodbyes to her. I kissed her gravestone before standing up.
I moved over to Alpha Davis’ grave, which was at the far side of the site.
I knelt down beside the grave and smiled. I consider him one of my angels, I can never forget his last words to me before he died. These words had prepared me and helped me successfully break through all my challenges in this Pack.
“”Always be strong Evelyn, don’t let them break you. You’re much more than you know.” Those were your exact words to me and I’ll never forget them Alpha. You treated me like a daughter and I’ll always respect you for that. You were a role model to me and your words always gave me strength, sometimes I wish you were still here. If you hadn’t died that day then I’m sure that everything that has happened thus far wouldn’t have happened but I’m still grateful to Selene for granting me happiness. If things hadn’t happened exactly the way they had, I would never have gotten the chance to meet Kayden, Ana, Elsie and everyone else and this reality, though with a painful start, will only end on a happy note. I wish you could see your granddaughter Alpha, she’s so sweet most of the time but she can be naughty as well. Your son, Zephyr did a lot of bad things in the past and though I can forgive him, I really can’t forget about it and thus, I decided it would be best if he stayed away from us.
I’m still not sure what his intentions are. I’m usually open to giving people second chances, like I did with Margallo but when it comes to Zephyr, I just can’t.
Maybe we’ll be able to work something out in the future but for now, I would just like him to be as far from Nevaeh and I as possible. Do rest well, you too Luna Imari, you’ll always be my guiding light. Bless your pure souls.” I said and stood up carefully. I wiped my tears and took a deep breath and as I turned to leave, I saw the last person I had expected to see, Zephyr.
My facial expression immediately changed, did he really follow me?
“How long have you been standing there? And why did you follow me?” I asked impolitely.
“Not too long ago, I just arrived actually and no, I did not follow you. As far as I can remember, this graveyard is still Crescent Moon property to which I’m the Alpha and besides, both my parents are buried here so I don’t think I need your permission to come here.” He said, holding a cold gaze which nearly made me shiver.
“Do you mind stepping aside, I would like to talk to my father.” He said and that’s when I noticed the flowers in his hand. I said nothing and just quickly moved aside.
He moved to Alpha Davis’ grave and I was tempted to stay and watch but I resisted and just decided to head back to the Pack house.
I hadn’t walked too far away from the grave site when I heard sounds around me. I didn’t bother to check because I assumed that it was just Zephyr but when the sounds continued, I grew uncomfortable. I turned around but I saw no one. I looked around and it seemed like I was the only one in the area, I heaved a sigh of relief and turned back, silently berating myself for imagining things.
All of a sudden, I heard someone call my name with a loud voice.
“Evelyn!” The voice echoed and I turned around to see Zephyr running towards me and I was left speechless. Just what is this man up to this time? Just when I thought he had given up.
“Get on the floor now.” Zephyr screamed at me, still running in my direction and I don’t know why but something pushed me to obey so I quickly laid down and a knife flew past me by a few inches.
My heart immediately began to palpitate. Where had that come from? Who had just made an attempt on my life? I turned to the side and my eyes widened when I saw that it was none other than Ruben, Moira’s murderer of a mate. He was trying to kill me, but why?
Ruben lunged towards me with a knife and I slowly crawled backwards in the grass in fear. This is only bringing dreadful memories that I’d do anything to forget.
Zephyr finally arrived and tackled Ruben away from me. They fought and Ruben was no match for Zephyr’s strength, even with a knife.
Zephyr forced the knife out of Ruben’s grip and threw it aside before throwing an array of punches his way.
After bashing up Ruben’s face and leaving him a sick pile on the floor, Zephyr quickly approached me to check if I was alright.
“Are you OK?” He questioned, caressing my cheek softly. For the first time ever, his touch didn’t disgust me. He had just saved my life and I’m grateful for that.
“Yes, I’m fine. Thank you.” I said softly and he helped me stand up.
“What’s with Ruben? Why did he show up here? I thought you banished him? And most importantly, why did he just try to kill me?” I questioned all at once, still trying to recover from the shock.
“Calm down. I’ll answer all your questions but you have to relax first. I did banish him but he broke through the scouts at the border. I came face to face with him at the grave site and he tried to kill me but when he saw that I wasn’t the least perturbed, he asked why I wasn’t trying to defend myself. We used to be friends so he knew how lively and spirited I usually am and he knew I was capable of defending myself.
I told him to go ahead and kill me because I had nothing else to live for but he refused, he claimed that killing me like that would not be fun for him. He wanted me to go through the same pain he had felt when I supposedly betrayed him by siding with your family and banishing him for Moira’s death.
He found out that you were back to the Pack when he saw you leaving the grave site, he reasoned that you were the most important thing to me right now and that killing you would be as good as killing me, he also claimed to have some old scores to settle with you.
In the years he’s been banished, he’s been practicing. He seems well versed in the handling of knives, he cut my leg in order to slow me down and went after you instead.” Zephyr narrated and my eyes quickly went to his legs. His left leg was bleeding a lot and I felt fear quickly creeping into me.
