Special Chapter: Kayden’s POV

I almost can’t believe it but the realization hits me like a bucket of bolts. Margallo had been responsible all along. It had all been her master plan, but why? It really doesn’t make any sense. It’s our mating ceremony today, we’re supposed to officially be mates so why would she cause pandemonium by poisoning the wine? Why would she do something like that, knowing it would ruin the ceremony? It almost seems like she never wanted it to happen but if she doesn’t want me to become her mate then why has she always been so possessive of me? Why didn’t she just say so despite how much she knows I want to end it as well. We could have just ended our bond on mutual grounds, via rejection and everyone would have been happy so why would she do something like this?

Why did she try to kill my brother? What on Earth could be her plan or her motive behind something so big? I’m not granted much time to think of answers as I hear a small thud and my eyes move back to Evelyn who laid weakly on the bed, looking like she’d pass out any second. Evelyn is only going through all of this hell because of that vile woman and I’ll surely make her pay. It’s only because of her that I have to see my love in such a condition.

“She won’t get away with this. I’ll make sure she pays for ever hurting you and all of us, I promise you Evelyn.” I assure her but don’t receive a reply as she passes out instantly.

I became alarmed and called for the doctor who rushed back instantly with the little girl in her hand, all cleaned up, dressed and wrapped cozy in a pink blanket. I notice how beautiful Evelyn’s daughter really is, she’s sleeping so peacefully like the little angel she is. I almost want to hold her, k**s her on the forehead and promise that everything would be alright but I restrain myself, I have much more important business to attend to.

“Is there a problem? Why the sudden call?” The doctor questioned; the worry apparent on her features. Only then do I notice how tired she looks. It must be so hard having to deal with such a tight situation and having to put up with such high expectations.

“It’s Evelyn, she seems to have passed out.” I told the doctor and she sighed in relief. “There’s really no need to worry, I think she just passed out from exhaustion. It’s been a difficult birth for her and it’s only her first time, so it’s expected. Though the effects of the poison may still be weighing on her, especially since she hasn’t passed out any waste yet. I’ll do a check up just to be sure, we’ve already come so far so I can’t let a small negligence put her in harm’s way once again. I’ll check and let you all know about the outcome, let’s hope that her condition only improves from here on out.” The doctor said and I nodded.

“By the way, congratulations to you. You have a daughter now.” She congratulated me, all smiles and I smiled back as well.

She must think that I’m the father of the baby. I’m happy because it’s an honour to be regarded as the father of such a beautiful daughter. I’ve already assumed the role of her father from the beginning and I’ll be happy to take on all her responsibilities.

“Thanks.” I thanked the doctor. “Selene has been gracious, your little girl seems to be perfectly fine for now, but it’ll be safe to keep her warm all the time and desist from too much physical contact. Her surroundings should always be sanitized and kept germ free because despite the fact that she’s thankfully alright, she missed out on two months of development and it will have its effect on her.

Her system is currently very weak and very susceptible to any form of illness, something as little as a sneeze could make her sick so you all have to be very careful when making contact with her.

Always make sure your hands are washed and don’t make contact with her mouth or nose. The first three months of her life are very crucial, she shouldn’t be taken outside of her mother’s room and most definitely not out in the open. If she can scale the first three months, completely healthy and without falling sick, then I guarantee you that she’ll be just like any normal baby. She’s quite sharp it seems, I think she’ll be a handful as she gets older. I trust you can all take adequate care of her. I’ll come here every week to give her and her mother a check up. I’m sure everything will go back to normal before we know it.” The doctor assured and her words instantly calmed my frayed nerves a bit but they were not enough to dispel my anger. I was still going to make Margallo pay.

I’ll first make her tell me why she did this, and then I’ll punish her. She’s not an Alpha so Richard can easily give her a befitting punishment without fear or favour.

“Thanks doctor, we’ll follow everything you’ve said.” I thanked the doctor and she smiled widely.

“There’s no really no need to thank me, I’m just doing my job. Do you want to hold her?” The doctor questioned and though I would have loved to, I had urgent business to attend to.

“I’m sorry doctor but maybe some other time, you can hand her over to Luna Elsie for now, I need to be somewhere and do something.” I said and the doctor nodded.

I walked out of the room only to be crowded and bombarded by questions from the others.

“You’ve been there a long time, is Evelyn alright? We heard the cry of a baby, has she given birth yet?” So many questions were thrown at me that it was so confusing at first but I managed to control the situation.

I cleared my throat before speaking. “Everyone please calm down, Evelyn is absolutely fine and I have good news to share with all of you. By goddess Selene’s grace, we finally have something to celebrate after crying so much, I’m glad to present to all of you, Evelyn junior.” I did a small intro and the doctor came out with the sleeping baby in her hand and everyone came forward to take a look at her.

“Oh my goodness, this is such good news. I have a little niece now. She’s so small but so beautiful, can I hold her?” Elsie squealed.

“Yes, you can, your majesty but you’ll have to be very careful and you’ll have to wash your hands first.” The doctor said and Elsie nodded with a smile.

“Of course, how silly of me.” She said and left to go wash her hands. “Look at how beautiful my granddaughter looks while she sleeps, bless you child. May you know no pain or suffering for as long as you live.” Ana said with a huge smile as she placed a hand on the baby’s body covered by a blanket. The baby stirred, her tiny gloved hand resting on Ana’s and Ana’s other hand came to her mouth, as if wanting to prevent herself from crying. It was honestly the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. I never knew that innocent gestures from babies could hold such deep emotion.

I looked away, knowing that if I didn’t leave now, it would be much harder to do what needed to be done. I grabbed Richard’s wrist and pulled him into an empty room.
