Chapter 50

Special Chapter: Kayden’s POV

“What?!” We all chorused in shock.

“Yes, the child you’re carrying is the product of the love that you and Richard share so I want it.” Margallo simply said.

“You must be out of your mind if you think that I’ll ever give my child to you.” Richard replied.

“Am I? It’s really a fair bargain if you ask me. You seem to have forgotten that you stole that opportunity away from me. I was pregnant with your child and what did you do? You caused me to suffer a miscarriage, I lost my child because of you and I can never forgive you for that. If you really want me to leave you all in peace, I simply ask that you give my child back to me. You can’t do that right? So you should pay for making me lose my baby by giving me yours. Only then will you realize the pain I’ve had to endure for so long. You’ll finally understand what it means to lose a child after anticipating it for so long. I want your child and that’s it, so do you accept my condition?” Margallo questioned.

“No! I’ll never accept such a bizarre condition.” Richard replied belligerently.

Elsie remained quiet, the shock probably inundating her. I couldn’t believe it myself, just how twisted was Margallo’s mind? It had taken quite some time for Elsie to conceive.

They’d been together for over two years without a child and Elsie had quickly started to wonder if she was infertile, she blamed herself for not taking in and was continuously worried about it but Richard always talked her out of it, telling her that they would have children whenever goddess Selene was ready to grant them the privilege.

In all honesty, Evelyn’s arrival was some sort of a blessing because shortly after we found out about Evelyn’s pregnancy, Elsie took in as well so Evelyn’s child was like the predecessor who opened the door to kids in this palace.

After having to go through so much and finally conceiving her own child, it’s absolutely preposterous for Margallo to just ask them to give up their child just like that. I’m certain now that she’s gone mad.

“Listen to me Margallo, we’ve had enough of your silly games. You and your father will leave here and never return, you’ll stop all this drama and move on with your life. You have someone so go live your life with him happily, Richard and Elsie have already apologized to you.

Elsie even went on her knees and pleaded with you so what more do you want? What will you gain by tormenting us like this? I understand that you didn’t deserve whatever happened to you, you were hurt and your heart was shattered, I’m sorry that happened to you, I really am but it’s all in the past. No one deserves the kind of pain you’ve had to endure. But the truth is, there’s nothing anyone can do to change it, no one can take away the pain you felt, no one except you. Only you can truly choose to move on. You’ve kept that pain buried in your heart for way too long and it’s drastically affecting your present and future. You’re not like this, OK? You’ll feel so much better and happier if only you’d let go of the pain and look to the future.

We could all let this pass and maintain a good relationship, this could be only a memory and we can still work something out if only you’d try to forgive.

Margallo, please forgive Richard and forgive yourself as well.” I tried to reason with her since it seemed arguing was getting us nowhere.

My words had an effect on her, I saw it. A flick of regret in her eyes, she closed her eyes, her expression pained but when she opened them, the vulnerability was gone, it was replaced by that anger she’d constantly been holding on to.

“No. You don’t really mean anything you’re saying. You’re just trying to emotionally blackmail me so that all of you will go scot free but I won’t fall for your tricks. You’ll all have to taste the lash of my wrath. I want your child and that’s it, I’m giving you only a day to come to a decision.

If you don’t have an answer for me by tomorrow, then I’m sorry but I’ll have to take action. Now leave, all of you. I’d like to be alone.” She snapped and turned away from us before sitting down on the floor of the cell and hugging her knees.

I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. We’ve barely recovered from the poison escapade and now this? What are we gonna do about this?

I know that there’s no way in this life that Elsie would agree to give up her child so how on Earth do we handle Margallo?

“I said leave all of you.” Margallo screamed at us and we all left the dungeon.

As soon as we were out, Elsie finally broke down. She would have fallen if Richard hadn’t held her up. She broke into sobs, her body shaking as she cried.

“Please don’t cry Elsie, it’s OK. We’ll find a way out of this.” Richard tried to pacify her but she reacted violently.

“Let go of me. This is all your fault, if only you’d exercised some self control or you’d at least told me then it wouldn’t have come to this. I’m the one having to pay for your mistakes. You know just how long it took me to conceive and now Margallo expects me to give up my baby just like that.

I can never agree to this, I’ll never give my child away even if it’s the last thing I do. She can do anything she pleases but I’ll make sure that she never sees my child let alone touch him or her.

You caused this problem so you’ll have to come up with a solution. Excuse me, I have to check up on Evelyn.” Elsie said and darted away before Richard could say anything else.

He slumped on a chair and let out an aggravated sigh. He propped his elbows on his thighs before resting his head on his hands. I can’t even imagine what he must be thinking right now.

I resist the urge to ignore him because I also have to check up on Evelyn as well and I’m really mad at him as it is but my brotherly instincts kick in, causing me to stay and comfort him.

I walk to his side and place a hand on his shoulder. “It’s going to be fine, I’m sure we’ll find a way out of this problem like we always do. I promise that I’ll protect my little nephew or niece with everything I have and I won’t Margallo take him or her.” I assured him and Richard placed a hand on mine and managed a weak smile.

“Thanks bro, for supporting me despite the fact that I messed up pretty bad.” He appreciated, gratified.

“Yeah, to be honest, I can’t abandon you no matter how upset I am with you. You’ve always supported me through everything so it’s my turn to do the same. But seriously bro, I still can’t believe that something so big actually happened and you never told anyone. If this hadn’t come up, I might never have found out that my mate was previously seeing my brother and still has eyes for him. Only the thought of it makes me shudder. Not that I particularly care about it, it’s just that it feels really weird.” I said and sat beside him.

“I realize it now. It was foolish of me to hide something like that from Elsie, especially when Margallo returned to my life playing the role of your mate and it was more stupid of me to think that the truth wouldn’t eventually come out. The truth being revealed was inevitable but I chose to turn a blind eye to it.

What was I thinking? Trying to hide the past when it constantly keeps interfering with the present, I thought I’d settle the past with Margallo amicably.

I didn’t want Elsie to find out I was involved with Margallo because I thought finding out about it might hurt her but I had no idea that hiding the truth from her would hurt her even more.” Richard said.

“Listen to me Richard, we’ll get past this. I promise you we’ll find a way to make everything return to normal. You and Elsie belong to each other and you’ll always stay together happily with your child. I’ll make sure of that.” I promised him and he looked at me hopefully.

“I don’t know if things can ever return to normal. Will Margallo be able to give up her path of revenge? Will Elsie ever forgive me?” He questioned and his words nearly left me speechless because in truth, I had no answer to them. Only time would tell, we just had to keep hope alive and be patient.

“Elsie will forgive you. She may be mad at you for now but just give it some time, she loves you a lot so she won’t be able to stay away from you for long.” I assured him and he suddenly grabbed me into a hug, taking me by surprise.

Richard wasn’t one to express emotion easily unless he was helpless so this gesture of his meant a lot.

“Thanks Kayden, for supporting me.” He thanked me again and I returned the hug, patting him on the back.

“There should be no thanks between us. That’s why we’re brothers, we’ll always stand up for each other.” I replied and we broke apart.

“Get some rest. I’ll go check up on Evelyn shortly.” I said and he nodded.
