Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 51
Special Chapter: Kayden’s POV
I headed towards the room where she’d given birth but a maid told me that she’d been moved to her room so I headed to her room instead.
I saw that she’d woken up and it brought a smile to my face. A big wave of relief washed over me.
I walked into the room casually and drew up a chair to sit beside her bed.
“So how do you feel now?” I questioned and she nodded with a smile.
“It’s honestly great and such a big relief to see that you’re fine. I was so scared, I was so worried about you.” I said and my eyes widened when she grabbed me in a hug which I reciprocated instantly, melting into her warm embrace.
She broke the hug and blushed slightly when we heard someone clear their throat.
“You guys realize that I’m still here right?” Elsie asked jocularly, wanting to lighten the mood but I know how worried she must be right now.
I guess she doesn’t want Evelyn to find out about Margallo’s request. Evelyn has already been through so much and finding out would cause her so much unnecessary stress.
“Sorry, Elsie. I didn’t see you there.” I said and scratched the back of my head sheepishly. I really hadn’t seen her when I entered the room.
“It’s alright, the both of you just look so cute together. Pretend like I’m not even here.” She said with a small laugh. Evelyn and I smiled at each other.
“Kayden get over here and take a look at our little baby girl. She’s so beautiful.” Elsie called and I moved to the baby’s crib which was just beside Evelyn’s bed.
I was finally able to get a good look at Evelyn’s daughter. She really is so beautiful, just like her mother.
“She’s so precious, we’re lucky to have her.” I said and Elsie nodded.
“Yes, we are. The doctor left to go get a rest but she’ll be back soon. She said she’ll do another check up for Evelyn to make sure she’s completely fine. The doctor wants to make sure that there’s no poison left in her system because if there is, it might cause harm to her which may only be noticeable later on. She also said we can all hold the baby but we should maintain maximum hygiene because she’s premature.” Elsie explained.
“I know, the doctor told me as well. The baby is going to be fine, everything is going to be fine. I assure you.” I assured her, putting stress on the word everything so she would know what I was referring to.
When she caught on on what I meant, her smile instantly disappeared but she tried to quickly cover it up.
“Since the baby is asleep now, I’ll check in later when she’s awake so I can play with her a bit. Please excuse me, I have to get some rest, I’m a bit tired after everything that’s happened today.” Elsie said and excused herself immediately after.
I sighed, I just wish I could take it away and somehow convince Margallo to stop her drama.
I felt a tap on the shoulder and turned to Evelyn who smiled at me. I felt myself smiling back and she requested me to get her a notebook and pen.
She scribbled something down and handed the book to me.
The note read ‘thank you’ and I threw her a puzzled look, not understanding at first.
“What are you thanking me for? I should be the one thanking you for having the courage to fight death. Thank you for staying with me and making me dad.” I said, taking both of her hands in mine and kissing them appreciatively.
Her smile widened and she took the note once more and wrote something down again. She handed it to me and it read.
“The doctor told me what you did. You took the risk and gave me your b***d because you believed in me, you believed in our bond when everything seemed to be against us. You didn’t give up on me and you saved my life. I really don’t deserve your love, how can I ever repay all the care you’ve shown me?” Tears came to my eyes as I read the words which she’d written.
Why would she think like that? She’s perfect in my eyes and I’m the one who doesn’t deserve her love and not the other way around.
“Don’t say that Evelyn, I’m the one who doesn’t deserve you. You’re perfect even with all your imperfections and that’s what endeared me to you.
You don’t have to repay me for anything. I only did my duty towards you, I only want you to promise me that you’ll never do something like that ever again. I love you so much, OK.” I told her and she nodded with a smile.
I couldn’t stop myself so I brought my hands to her cheeks, caressing them softly before bridging the distance between and bringing my lips to meet hers in a soft, sweet k**s. She stiffened at first but reciprocated instantly and I could feel her body relax. We kissed for a few minutes, slowly ravaging each other’s lips. It wasn’t a possessive k**s but a passionate one, somewhat of an outlet because we put all our emotions into it. All our joy, our love and even our pain. I didn’t want to pull away because it was the sweetest thing ever but I had to so we could both catch our breaths.
She closed her eyes and tried her hardest not to blush but she still did. She took the notebook once more and I wondered what she wanted to write this time.
I waited impatiently and when she was done, I nearly snatched the note from her. It read “Thank you for giving me so much happiness. The majority of my life has been filled with sorrow and suffering and I thought I was destined never to find happiness but then you and everyone else came into my life and filled it with so much light, happiness and love. You’ve all brightened my dark world and I couldn’t ask for anything else.
I know I don’t have much to give but I would really like it if you could name my daughter. Her father rejected her right from the day she was conceived but you’ve been by my side through it all so you’re already like a father to her. It would only be right if you named her.” I finished reading the note and tears of joy slipped down my cheeks. She’s giving the honour of naming her daughter.
“Thank you.” I told her. “Thank you for this.” I reiterated.
I went to wash my hands and returned quickly. After which I went to the crib and carefully carried the sleeping child in my hands.
I gingerly walked back to where Evelyn was seated and sat down with the baby still in my arms.
I looked to Evelyn for permission and when she nodded a go ahead, I called the first name that came into my mind.
“Neveah.” I called and Evelyn smiled, she seemed to love the name but I didn’t fail to notice the curiosity that lurked in her expression.
“Nevaeh was actually my mother’s name. I miss her a lot these days, she died when I was seven. I’ve always wanted to name my daughter after my mother. But it’s OK, really. I can change the name if you don’t like it.” I said, nervously nearly facepalming myself for blurting out something so sensitive but Evelyn nodded incessantly, blocking out my worries.
She took her trusty notebook and wrote something on it again. I read it and the words brought so much joy to my heart.
“I love the name so much and I would be glad if my daughter’s name could be Nevaeh. She’s not only my daughter, she’s yours as well. You’re her father from now on and I’m sure you’ll be the best father ever.” I read it and smiled.
“You hear that sweetheart, your name is Nevaeh from now on.” I said and Nevaeh smiled in her sleep, as if giving her approval.
This day is surely turning out better than it had started and I can only hope it gets better from here on out.
