Chapter 55

I arrived at the throne room with Margallo. Everyone already seemed so tense but they straightened up as soon as they saw her.

She walked straight up to Elsie and grabbed her in a hug, taking everyone by surprise.

“I’m really sorry Luna Elsie. I apologize for my behavior towards you. I was harsh and thoughtless. I was just so focused on causing you pain that I forgot that true happiness is only attained when you make others happy.

I know the pain of losing a child, I don’t want you to have to go through that pain. All this while, I thought that revenge was all I needed, I really thought it was necessary in order for me to find happiness but Evelyn has managed to make me see the truth. She’s a very nice person, she was willing to see the good in me despite the fact that I tried to kill her. You are all lucky to have her.” Margallo said and broke from the hug.

“There’s really no need to apologize dear and please call me Elsie. I’ve never really held a grudge against you, I’ve always considered you as my sister. Please forgive Richard for what he did to you in the past.” Elsie pleaded with folded hands but Margallo stopped her.

“There’s really no need for that. If you truly consider me as a sister then you’ll stop treating me like a stranger. Sisters don’t apologize to each other. Besides, I’ve been putting all the blame on Richard when he only did what he thought was right at that moment. And I’ve realized that no amount of hatred or bitterness can change the past so I’ve decided to move on.

Elsie please don’t be angry with Richard because of me, I know he can be insensitive at times but he’s not a bad person. And he really loves you, I’ve seen it and I now acknowledge it. I wish that the both of you continue to love each other as much as you can and that you remain happy always.” Margallo said and Elsie hugged her once more.

They broke apart and Margallo headed towards Richard who kept his gaze down, unable to look her in the eye for some reason.

“I’m really sorry Richard for trying to kill you and causing you and your family so many problems. I have no excuse for my actions and I deserve punishment. I’m ready to take any punishment you give me quietly.” Margallo said softly and I smiled when Richard took her in his embrace.

“You don’t have to apologise, you’re not the only one at fault. I’m sorry as well for the mistakes I made in the past. I really wronged you and I regret the fact that I didn’t acknowledge it sooner.” Richard said and separated from her.

“It’s OK, you’ve already apologized before. I forgive you. I honestly think that everything happened when they were supposed to. I’ve realized that now. You’d better take care of Elsie and treat her well or I’ll break your arm.” Margallo said and we all laughed.

It’s truly both wonderful and surprising to see. This is the first time that I’ve seen Margallo make a joke. Who knew she could be this friendly when she wasn’t plotting revenge?

“I certainly will, thank you for forgiving me and putting everyone’s welfare into consideration.” Richard said and Margallo nodded. Richard walked up to Elsie and took her hands in his.

“I’m sorry for yesterday.” He apologized and Elsie just ignored him and grabbed him in a hug. “I’m sorry too, I was being harsh and unreasonable. I’m just glad that we’re together and it’s all in the past.” Elsie said and my grin widened. It warms my heart to see beautiful and romantic scenes.

Margallo went to Ana next and dropped to her knees with her head bowed. “I’m sorry Ana, I was very rude and mean to you the other day. You’ve always treated me like a daughter but I’ve only returned your kindness with rudeness and disrespect. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.” Margallo pleaded and Ana bent down and helped her up before finally pulling her into a hug.

“It’s alright dear, you really don’t have to apologize to me. I’ve never hated you, I was only worried and sad because you’d lost your way and gone astray but I really cannot express how happy I am that you’ve realized your mistake and are ready to turn a new leaf. It really is admirable. I sincerely hope you never have to face any more difficulty in your life and I wish you all the happiness in the world dear.” Ana said.

“Thank you.” Margallo replied and then walked up to Kayden who just stared at her with an unreadable expression.

“I’m really sorry Kayden, for putting you through so much trouble just because of me. I know how much you love Evelyn, I caused her pain and put her life in danger. I know you must probably hate me and find it hard to forgive me……..” Margallo began but Kayden took her hand in his and cut her off.

“Stop talking nonsense, frowny.” He remarked and I became confused. Margallo laughed at his comment. “Really? It feels like ages since you’ve called me that. How long has it been? You nicknamed me frowny when we first met and found out we were mates.” She said with a giggle and I released a sigh I never knew I had been holding. It’s a huge relief that his remark was just harmless teasing, I would hate for anything to ruin such a happy moment.

“Back then the name really suited you a lot but not anymore. Now you should be called pretty, just like your smile. You really don’t have to apologise to me, stuff happened. Mistakes were made and people got hurt but it’s all in the past now. I’m just really glad that everything turned out to be fine in the end, Evelyn and Nevaeh are OK so I have absolutely no reason to be angry.

Dare I say that everything happened according to destiny and I’m glad that it turned out this way. At least we’ll still get to be friends.” Kayden said and pinched her cheek while she giggled.

At this point I don’t know if to be happy or jealous. He’s showing her way too much affection now. Is he doing this on purpose just to make me jealous? Get it together Evelyn, what are you even thinking? I was never like this, what’s happening to me? I began questioning myself.

“Love, that’s what. You only get jealous when you see other women around the one you love. It’s the natural mate possessiveness. It’s already manifesting despite the fact that we haven’t even mated with him yet.” Tara explained and I sighed.

I should be happy, not jealous. It’s not like they’re going to get back together just because Margallo turned a new leaf, right? It’s just so ironic that my self comfort did not help in the least, if anything, it made my fears worse.

“Just calm down Evelyn, why are you always so self contradictory? You encourage yourself one minute and entertain doubts the next chance you get. Kayden is only loyal to you, you should know that by now.” Tara opposed.

‘I know it’s probably foolish of me but I get anxious knowing that they’re still mates. And it’s true that anything can happen, I have the most unpredictable fate ever. But I trust Kayden completely though a little assurance would be uplifting.’ I said with a nervous smile.

“You’re impossible, you know that?” Tara said and I sighed. I’m starting to think I’ve developed a dual personality of some sort. One is this courageous girl that’s ready to stand up for herself and do anything for her family and the other is this scared girl with so many negative emotions and never sees anything good about herself. And I just can’t seem to control both my personalities or help myself.

“I’m just glad that I can finally set everything right. I know that we’re not meant for each other, you love Evelyn and I have to find my own destiny so the plausible thing would be a rejection.” Margallo said, the tone of her voice depleting at the last part of the sentence. And I found myself feeling guilty, I’ve been rejected. I know exactly how it feels and it’s something I wouldn’t even wish upon my worst enemy. So isn’t it selfish that I wish for Kayden to reject Margallo just so we can be together?

“A mutual separation, not a rejection.” Kayden corrected and Margallo smiled.

He held her hands in his. “We’ll say it to each other. Ladies first.” He said and she nodded.

“I, Margallo Daisy Remus, Princess of the Prime Wood pack, reject you Kayden Lakiel as my mate and I hereby sever any bond that we might share.” Margallo said and the words dropped on ears like shattered glass, bringing that familiar feeling of adrenaline. My jealousy quickly morphed to guilt, they’re having to reject each other because of me, I’m the one at fault.

“I gladly accept the rejection.” Kayden replied. “And I Kayden Lakiel, Prince of the Kizmet pack, reject you Margallo Daisy Remus as my mate and I hereby sever any bond we might share.” Kayden said.

“I also accept the rejection.” Margallo accepted the rejection and grabbed Kayden in a hug.

“Now it wasn’t so bad, was it?” Margallo asked with a smile before walking up to me. I just kept my head down, my guilt rising.

She took my hand and practically dragged me with her to where Kayden stood.

She then placed my hand on Kayden’s.

“Now this only seems right, it’s what should have been from the beginning.” Margallo said and tilted my chin, bringing my eyes to meet with hers.

“You don’t have to feel guilty. None of this is because of you. Kayden and I separated on mutual grounds because mate bond or not, it was never going to work. We’re not meant for each other, you two are. So you don’t really have to feel bad, if anything, you should bask in joy because all your bad days are over. Only happiness awaits you now.” Margallo said, chasing away the guilt and restoring my confidence.

But how did she know how I was feeling?

“You’re terrible at hiding your feelings, you didn’t have to say anything. The expression on your face gave you away.” Margallo said as if reading my mind.

Kayden kissed my hands, stealing my attention. “She’s right, you don’t have to be scared or worried. It’s all over. We should only look to the future and think of the good things from now on.” He encouraged me and I beamed a smile and nodded. The assurance did its magic, chasing the fear away.

“Now that everything is settled, I think we should have a party.” Elsie suggested and everyone seemed to agree.

“I’m afraid I won’t be able to stay. There are urgent things I must attend to in my pack. I have a lot of things to make up for and no time to lose. I promise that I’ll visit when I can.” Margallo said and no one could argue.

“Alright then, I’ll prepare an entourage for you and Alpha Turner and make sure you return home safely.” Richard assured.

“Thank you.” Margallo said with a smile before turning away and taking her leave. Everyone also left soon after, leaving me and Kayden in the throne room.

“How do you do it?” He asked suddenly, taking me by surprise and I stared at him blankly, not understanding what he meant.

“I mean how do you manage to spread happiness anywhere you go? You know exactly what to do in order to make a situation right. I thought Margallo was already past the point of no return. I thought nobody could change her but you did. I don’t know how you did it, but you’re amazing and I’m glad to have you.” He said and the next thing I knew, I was nestled in his arms.

“I told you it would be alright.” Tara reminded me. ‘Yes, you sure did. Everything will be alright from now on. As long as I have Kayden and everyone else by my side, everything will be just fine.’ I affirmed.
