I opened my eyes and saw that I was still with Kayden but taking a look around, I instantly saw that we were not in the library anymore.

We were in a big open space filled with vegetation and greenery. And instead of a book, the light by the name of Voithós had taken shape and though his face was too bright to see, his body was well built and he was dressed like a god.

“Where are we?” I asked Tara but she didn’t reply. The fact that Tara didn’t reply was quickly overshadowed by a shocking revelation. The sound of my own voice dropped on my ears like a bomb. I had actually spoken for the first time ever.

“How…….. How is this possible?” I questioned no one in particular. “Evelyn, you……. You can talk.” Kayden said, sounding just as shocked as I was.

“You can talk.” He reiterated and grabbed me in a hug while I just stood still, unable to grasp what was going on. I can talk, but how? How is that even possible? I’ve been mute from birth, doctors said that my vocal cords never developed so I was virtually voiceless, not being able to make even a sound so how is it possible that I can suddenly talk and so fluently as well?

Kayden detached from the hug but I remained neutral, my mind trying to decipher how any of this was possible. Could it be that I’m still in a dream? Am I still sleeping, perhaps?

“I know you must be shocked beyond comparison. You’re talking for the first time since you were born so I can understand why you’re awestruck. Let me explain everything to you. You are currently in what is called Òrama tou parelthóntos which translates to a vision or visions of the past. While in this trance like state, reality is altered and things are merely opposite. Take for example, both of your wolf spirits are absent and you’re just like a normal human here. Evelyn is mute in reality but she can speak freely here.” Voithós explained and my confused expression soon morphed into a smile as his explanation finally sunk in.

My hands came to my mouth as I laughed out happily. “Kayden.” I called out his name for the first time ever, the letters rolling out of my tongue rhythmically, my voice sounding so perfect and beautiful. So this is actually how it feels to be able to speak. It’s a truly awesome feeling, it’s wonderful. People that can talk all they want really don’t know how lucky they are. They don’t realise how truly blessed they are for having the privilege to express themselves verbally, to laugh, to talk, to argue, to be able to call the name of the ones they love, it truly is a gift in itself. I’m grateful to have been granted this opportunity and now that I know how good it feels to be able to speak, I never want to give it up for anything.

“Kayden.” I call his name once more and he smiles at me, delighted. I have tears in my eyes and I can see that he does as well. I’ve always wanted to be able to say his name, even if it was just once. I can’t express how happy I am that I finally can.

“I’m so happy, Evelyn. You did it, you finally said my name. You really don’t know how much I’ve craved to hear you call my name, to speak to me and say those three special words that I’d give anything to hear you say to me.” He said and my smile widened as tears of joy fell down my cheeks.

“I love you Kayden. I love you so much.” I confessed, unashamed to say it out loud or say it over and over again. He grabbed me into another hug which I melted into, my heart beating rapidly against my chest.

We broke apart and he tucked away a loose strand of hair behind my ear before caressing my face and gently bringing my face closer to his. I closed my eyes, anticipating the k**s but my eyes flew open when we heard a cough instead.

“I’m still here.” Voithós reminded us and we broke away sheepishly, looking sideways and trying our best to hide our blushes but it was all to no avail. I guess I got a little carried away, it feels so different without Tara here to guide me, advice me or stop me from doing certain things.

I guess this is probably why humans make so many mistakes and so easily as well, not having an inner voice and a beacon of light to guide you, makes doing the right thing hard.

“I let you bask in the joy of finally having a voice but that’s enough, we’re here strictly on business. Don’t be too happy just yet, your voice doesn’t belong to you, yet. You’re yet to officially make a wish and I already know that this is what you will wish for so before I let you make your wish, it is my responsibility as guardian to show you the universal consequence or repercussion of granting wishes through cosmic power. I’ll show you two recent incidents or rather, the two people before you that hastily made a wish without thinking and then you’ll see the outcome of their wish. Come with me.” Voithós said and we took his hand. Suddenly, we were in a pack. It wasn’t a pack that I recognised so I’m guessing it’s another pack.

“Where are we?” Kayden questioned. “We’re in the Hidden Valley Pack. You’re about to watch a live action scene so focus on everything. Since we’re in the past, we’re invisible so they can neither see us nor hear us and they certainly can’t touch us as well but they can smell us.” Voithós said with a smirk.

“Really?” Kayden questioned. “No.” Voithós snided. “Now come along.” He said and we disappeared once more and found ourselves in a pack house and before we knew it, we were in a room. A middle aged man walked in with a small satchel hidden in his clothes. A pregnant woman who I suspect to be his wife was sitting on the bed and gazing into space.

“Aurelia, I’m back. How are you feeling now, dear?” The man questioned the woman and she smiled, still gazing into the distance.

“I’m fine dear, how was work today?” She questioned with a smile and on a closer look, I finally noticed that she was blind. “She’s blind.” I acknowledged.

“Yes.” Voithós answered. “This man’s name is Hendrick, he was only but a lowly Omega. And this woman’s name is Aurelia. She was one of the most beautiful women during this period but she was unfortunate to have lost her eyesight due to a terrible illness during childhood. She was originally the Alpha’s mate but he rejected her because she was blind, despite her beauty and her grace and even the fact that her uncle is the Alpha of another Pack, she was mostly treated unfairly by everyone around her due to her disability.

Hendrick lost his mate a long time ago, she died young and when he realised this, he decided to stay alone since it was evident that no woman in the pack would accept him but when he met with Aurelia, he instantly fell in love with her and she got to like him a lot as well. They started out as good friends but he later took her as a mate. At this time, Hendrick has just acquired the book which is the goddess’s lost miracle from a merchant and he wanted to see if it actually worked.” Voithós said and the people in the scene who seemed to have been previously paused continued their conversation just like we weren’t even there.

“Work was fine, thank you. How is the baby?” He questioned and took a seat beside her. “The baby is fine, although he has been very naughty lately. I guess he’s really eager to finally come into the world and gaze at all its wonder and beauty. I’m just glad that my child will be able to enjoy what I couldn’t. He’ll be able to see his surroundings and the beauty it holds. ” She said dreamily with a smile and my heart clenched at her words.

I could almost feel her pain because I’m in a similar situation in reality. Despite not being blind, not being able to speak makes me feel the same pain she does. The inferiority and the abuse has always been the biggest problem of people like us who have disabilities that can’t be helped.

“Don’t speak like that dear, you’re perfect. I love you just the way you are and that’s all that matters. Besides, how are you so sure it’s going to be a boy? It could be a girl, I want our child to be a girl.” Hendrick said and kissed her forehead.

“I just know that I’m going to have a son, Trixie thinks so as well.” Aurelia said and I instantly knew that Trixie was her spirit wolf.

“My dear, I have a surprise for you.” Hendrick said and brought out the satchel. he then brought out a big and beautiful looking book.

On it was inscribed a language I’ve never seen before. “That is it, it’s Selene’s miracle right there.” Voithós said, instantly clearing my doubts.

Aurelia used her hands to feel what her husband had brought for her and her smile instantly turned into a frown.

“A book, really? Why would you get me a book as a present when you’re well aware that I’m blind and can’t read? Are you trying to mock me or something? What kind of joke is this?” She questioned, the hurt evident in her voice.

“No dear, it’s far from that. You should know that I will never want to hurt you. This is no ordinary book, it’s a very special book and I’ve spent all the money I previously saved on this book.” Hendrick revealed and Aurelia’s frown deepened.

“What?! Why would you do something like that? Are you crazy? How could you spend all the money we saved on a stupid book?” Aurelia questioned, evidently livid. And I felt slightly offended for her calling books stupid, books are awesome.

“Dear, just calm down and listen to me. The merchant is a very good friend of mine and he told me that this is the celestial book of goddess Selene herself. He bought it from a servant boy who stole it from his vampire master.” Hendrick explained and this only got me more curious.

“Hold on a second, if goddess Selene created this book for her descendants then why was it in the possession of vampires?” I questioned, unable to stop myself.

“Well to be honest, vampires are the smartest, wittiest and most intelligent creatures so of course it was easy for them to obtain the book from the werewolves but despite that, they lack the ability to fall in love easily. They mostly take a mate or get married for s****l pleasure or procreation. So despite the book being with them for a very long time, only one vampire couple was able to open it but that story is irrelevant right now so it would be good if you focus on this one.” Voithós said in an eerily calm voice and I decided to shut up.

“How can you believe anything a merchant says? Merchants don’t have friends, the only friend they have is money. Merchants will say anything just so you’ll buy their wares.

Goddess Selene’s book was lost a long time ago but that doesn’t mean we should disrespect something so sacred. I’m sure this is just a dusty old book. I just can’t believe you wasted your money just like that. The least you could have done was ask me first.” Aurelia argued.

“If the book is fake, don’t worry. I know just how to get my money back. Let’s just try the book out first.” Hendrick suggested.

“Fine, what are you waiting for? Open it.” Aurelia permitted. “Boaz said that the key to opening this special book is true love. Only two people that actually love each other can open it together.” Hendrick said and Aurelia sighed.

“Fine, let’s give it a try.” Aurelia accepted and Hendrick held her hand and placed it on the book.

Together, they easily opened the book and the same thing that had happened to Kayden and I happened to them.

Voithós appeared in the form of a light in the book and he said the usual speech but when he got to the part about the consequences that came with making a wish without appropriate consideration, Hendrick dismissed it and instantly wished that Aurelia would get her sight back and it happened instantly. The couple were so happy and rejoiced. I smiled at seeing this and from the corner of my eyes, I could see Kayden having the same reaction as well. What could ever be consequential about a happy family?

“You’ll find out soon.” Voithós said as if reading my thoughts.

“Hold my hand, I’m taking you to the next scene.” Voithós said and we obeyed. The next thing we saw was a room filled with people……
