Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 87
Prince Virgil’s voice continuously echoes in the distance and my fear increases with each dangerous step that he takes closer to my hiding place.
What should I do? If he catches me and Kayden like this then he’ll definitely know that something is up. No lie will be able to cover this up, he’ll see right through me and probably torture us until we speak the truth. The thought of this pumps more adrenaline into my b***d and an amazing idea quickly forms in my mind.
“Kayden.” I call in a whisper and he turns to me. “I know how we can get out of this unscathed but it involves violence.” I tell him and I instantly see him hesitate. He’s just so sweet. “What do you mean violence? Who’s going to get hurt? If it’s you then forget about it. I would have fought these Vampires off easily but then again, I’ve got no wolf and I’m currently injured so there’s no escape from this.” He said and I knew he was ready for anything but things didn’t have to end this way, I wouldn’t let it happen.
“We’ll get out of this, just trust me and do what I ask of you.” I whisper to him and he says nothing.
Prince Virgil already knows my scent so he’ll probably spot me soon, I have to be quick with this. I look around and thankfully see a small hole in the wall of the alley way. It isn’t that big but it would be big enough to squeeze through with only a few bruises. We could just take that route and escape from here but I’m not going to foolishly throw away all my hard work up to this point.
I’m already deep in dangerous waters, running away from Prince Virgil would be the same thing as drowning so instead, I’ll hold on to his hand for as long as I have to.
“Look, there’s a small hole over there where you can escape but even if you do, Prince Virgil will ask me what I’m doing in this alleyway all alone, he’ll become too suspicious and I can’t afford to have that so in order to remedy this situation, you have to punch me across the head.” I told Kayden and he couldn’t hide his shock at all.
“What? What are you saying? You should know I would never raise my hand to you under any circumstance.” He argued, still in low tunes.
“This isn’t violence Kayden, this is different. Do it now or you’ll never see me again.” I threatened, I had hoped it wouldn’t come to this but Kayden was being stubborn so I could be stubborn as well. I tore the hem of my dress on both sides to make my story more believable.
As the footsteps got closer, I began to panic. “Please just do it.” I practically pleaded and closed my eyes. I heard him sigh erratically before giving me the hit I had requested and despite the fact that it was expected, I couldn’t have anticipated the pain attached to the strike.
I staggered backwards in pain but he caught me just in time before I hit the ground. I opened my eyes and my vision blurred a bit because I had just taken a hit to the head but this was perfect, a bump would be sure to appear soon and that would be my escape from questioning and punishment.
“I’m sorry Evelyn, does it hurt?” He questioned, caressing my face and I nearly glared at him. “Go, now!” I mouthed to him and he reluctantly obeyed. He rushed to the hole in the wall and looked at me one last time before going through it.
As soon as I saw that he had successfully gone through the wall, I quickly rushed to the spot and used cardboard boxes filled with old junk to cover up the hole. I wouldn’t want to give them a clue to the direction he had gone or else all this would have been for nothing.
As soon as I finish arranging the cardboard boxes and the hole is hidden, my head buzzes and my vision blurs continuously.
Just then, Prince Virgil finally arrives at the scene but my back is turned to him and my hand is on my head, trying to contain my throbbing headache.
“You! You thought you could escape me, right? But you can’t run from me. No one can ever escape my clutches. I knew you had something planned when you were insistent on coming with me and I expected this sort of stunt from you.
I take you out with me and give you the type of luxury that most masters don’t give to their pets and this is how you repay me? Oh no, I can’t have that.
You’ve been practically begging to be punished ever since you arrived and I’ll fulfill your wish today. I’ll punish you so hard that the thought of escaping from me will do nothing but fill you with dread.” Prince Virgil said as he slowly walked towards the spot I was standing.
“You insolent fool, how dare you keep your back turned to me when I’m speaking?” He raged and grabbed my shoulder, bringing me to face him and his eyes widened in shock when he saw the huge red bump on my forehead and the tears in my eyes.
This was my chance.
I instantly fell on him and he caught me. He easily carried me in his arms like I weighed absolutely nothing.
“What’s wrong? What happened to you, pet? Did someone hit you? Answer me!” He yelled at me but this was apparently more of fear than anger. I had honestly never thought I would see any Vampire show emotion or appear so vulnerable, it was shocking to say the least but it was also heartwarming.
“He…… He…….” I stuttered for more effect and shifted further into his embrace, hugging him tight. “He? Who did what? Who hurt you? Who had the guts to lay a finger on my property?” He questioned angrily.
“A man, a vampire. He…….. He said you had sent him to get me so I followed him and he brought me here. When I saw that it……… it was a trap, I tried to run but he stopped me. He still tried to………….” I trailed and broke into more tears, sobbing into his chest.
I can hear his heart beating erratically as his breath comes out more rapidly. It’s apparent that he’s very angry.
“What? What did he do?” He questioned, his voice low but dangerous. “He tried to force himself on me and I tried to fight back but he was too strong…….. You saved me, he heard you coming and he ran away.
If you hadn’t shown up then I could have………..” I broke into more sobbing, the tears copiously falling down my cheeks.
“Shhh…… It’s OK, I’m here now. Nothing will happen.” He comforted me and this completely shocked me. Could he actually be this caring?
“Yes, you belong to me so I care about you and I won’t be able to take it if someone else laid a finger on my property.” He said with a small chuckle that sounded forced.
My head buzzed with a furious headache and I winced.
“What is it?” He questioned, caressing my face. “My head, it hurts.” I complained, trying to keep my eyes open but it just wasn’t working. “Just calm down and take a deep breath, don’t say anything anymore.” He said but I was gradually slipping out of consciousness.
My grip on him loosened and pain was the only thing I felt before I passed out but before my eyes shut, I faintly heard him say something.
“I swear on my mother that I’ll make whoever did this to you pay. I’ll make him go through the worst punishment and he’ll regret ever being born.”
Those were the last words I heard before it went dark again.
*********
I wake up to see Prince Virgil and a doctor beside me. “She’ll be alright. It was just a hit to the head, nothing too serious.” The doctor said and Prince Virgil nodded.
“That’s good to hear.” He affirmed. “I’ll be on my way now, she may experience slight headaches or dizzy spells if she stresses too much so she should be allowed to rest properly.” The doctor said and he nodded.
The doctor paid her respects before taking her leave. I tried to sit up but he instantly stopped me, gently plopping me back on the bed.
“Didn’t you just hear what the doctor said? You need to rest.” He cautioned with fiery eyes and I saw no reason to argue. “You really scared me back there when you suddenly fainted.” He said so suddenly and his words left me genuinely wondering if this was the same Prince who had claimed me as his pet.
“You don’t have to act so surprised.” He said and pinched my nose gently so I fixed my shocked expression.
“I’m just as shocked as you are. I don’t normally show affection primarily because I don’t know how to but with you, it’s different. You just bring out a side of me that I didn’t even know existed, I hate it but I can’t deny that I love it as well. There’s just something very special about you, you’re no ordinary girl.” He said but I said nothing.
“I’m never taking you out with me on an outing ever again, your life was in danger today and I won’t let it happen. You should know better than to just follow strangers. I ought to punish you for putting me in so much worry and unnecessary stress, but you’re lucky you’re not well so your punishment is averted. I’m telling you this for the last time, pet, stop doing everything to get on my nerves because you really don’t want to know what my punishments feel like. Just be a good girl and you’ll be rewarded.” He said, suddenly reverting to his cold self and I’ll have to admit that I’m much more comfortable with this version of him.
He turned away to leave but my words stopped him.
“Thank you, for saving me.” I thanked him for practically nothing but then again, it’s all a part of the plan.
“You’re welcome. You’re my property so if I don’t protect what belongs to me, who will? Get some rest, pet.” He said and continued towards the door.
“I have a name you know, Evelyn. My name is Evelyn.” I blurted out suddenly before I could even stop myself. I’m sick and tired of him calling me ‘pet’ like I’m some kind of animal.
I hear him smirk before speaking. “I know you have a name but I don’t care to know what it is. I like calling you ‘pet’ because it suits you.” He said and left before I could say anything else.
I just sigh and try to get comfortable. I’m glad that my plan has worked perfectly, I was able to meet with Kayden without Prince Virgil getting suspicious or finding out. I was even able to escape punishment, which is a very good thing. My acting skills are starting to become top notch but what else can I do in such a situation like this. I guess the only reason why I could do what I did and make it seem genuine was because I had actually been in such a situation before.
When I remembered what Zephyr had done to me, the tears just came down on their own and I was able to fool Prince Virgil.
I shake my head gently, wishing the negative feelings away. I instead concentrate on Kayden and I find myself smiling. I’m just glad that I was able to meet with him today, seeing that he’s OK is all the encouragement I need to move forward with my plan.
I think it’s time to take this whole thing to another level. I have to get on the King’s good side no matter what. He has to have some kind of faith in me in order for me to even have a shot at bringing him closer to Lucia.
I don’t know when I’ll get to see Kayden again, I’m just glad to know that my job will be a bit easier now that I know that he’s with Lucia.
I just have to think of a way to gain the king’s favour but how?
