It’s been almost a week and I’ve been unable to come up with a good plan on how to win the King’s trust. Forget about gaining his trust, the thought of being in front of him again scares me so much.

He’s just so fierce and sometimes I get discouraged realizing how difficult it would be to make such a person fall in love. Right now, it’s looking literally impossible but I’ll give it my best no matter what.

Prince Virgil has been a lot nicer to me but strangely, he still refuses to call me by my name but I don’t mind it anymore. As long as he’s nice to me, doesn’t punish me and doesn’t attempt to have s*x with me, he can call me whatever the hell he wants.

Seven whole days of mainly staying in my room and in bed because Prince Virgil wants to be sure that I recover fully. I think he’s taking it a little too far, it was just a hit to the head, it’s not like I would have died or anything.

Just as I’m thinking about him, my door throws open and he shows up looking all majestic. Speak of the devil.

“Have you had your breakfast, pet?” He questioned. “Yes.” I replied. “Do you feel any pain? You look a bit pale today.” He questions and I just wanna cry. Seriously? This is what I call overreacting.

“I’m fine, I’m absolutely fine. The only problem that I have is that I’m bored half to death. If I don’t get something to do soon, I might actually die of boredom.” I exhale and the next second, he’s in front of me, his finger on my lips.

“Don’t talk such nonsense or I’ll be forced to punish you.” He warned and I gave an apologetic look. “I’m sorry, it’s just that I really want to do something to keep myself busy.” I requested and he smiled.

“Well, it seems you’re feeling so much better so I think it’s time for me to finally have a taste of your sweet essence.” He says and grabs my wrist.

I close my eyes in fear, waiting for the pain to hit me but when it never comes, I open my eyes to see Prince Virgil grinning at me.

“I’m not as ruthless as you think, I wouldn’t be selfish enough to drink from you when you’re not feeling well and I’m not sure you’ll be able to survive after I’m done. When I do drink from you, it’ll be special and I’ll make sure that nothing goes wrong.” He says and lets go of my hand.

“Get some rest. This is a vampire castle, I’m sure there’s nothing here for you to do except household chores and that’s not what you’re here for. You’re my pet, so you’ll only serve me.” He said and opened the door but I remained persistent.

“Please master, there must be something I can do to keep busy. Do you have any books? I love to read.” I said and he paused momentarily before turning to face me.

“You’re in luck, pet, because this castle does in fact have a library with probably the biggest range of books in the whole world.” He said and I smiled.

“Can you please take me there?” I requested and he hesitated a bit but I kept pleading.

“Please take me to the library, I promise I won’t cause you any trouble from now on. Please.” I pleaded, pulling on my cutest face. “Fine, come with me but don’t you dare think for a second that you can easily request things from me like this in the future.” He warned and I nodded and got up from my bed. I’m just glad that he finally agreed.

We walked out of my room and along the long hallway. We walked past several rooms with no sign of stopping and I began to wonder just how big this castle is.

“We’re almost there, don’t worry.” He assured me and I nodded but just then, a guard came towards us.

“Your highness, I apologise for disturbing you but Count Wiston urgently requests your presence.” The man alerted. Gosh, these people have the worst timing. Couldn’t he have waited for like three more minutes?

“I’ll be there soon, I have to do something first.” Prince Virgil said and I smiled, satisfied.

“But your highness, he said it’s urgent and that I should let you know that it’s a discussion regarding the issue that you both talked about last time.” The guard said and I saw Prince Virgil’s expression change from cool to tentative. I can only guess that it must be very important.

I just hope that he doesn’t decide to send me back to my room. As if reading my mind, he turns back to me and just shows me the way to the library.

“Listen to me, pet, I’ll have to go now but since we’ve already come so close, it would be unfair for me to send you back to your room. So I’ll give you directions to the library instead. You just need to keep walking straight and turn left off the corner. You’ll see a huge beautifully carved door designed with gold, that’s the library.

You’d better pay attention and go in the right direction, I don’t want you getting into any sort of mischief. Is that understood?” He questioned. “Yes….master.” I added the last part just to please him. Truth is, I’ll never get used to calling him master.

“Alright go now. I’m serious, don’t wander off anywhere.” He warned before leaving with the guard. I took a deep breath before continuing the walk down the corridor.

I took a quick look around as I passed by different doors. When I got to the bend, I took a left turn and not long after, I came face to face with a large but beautifully designed door.

I placed my hand on the door handle, attempting to open it but it pushed open, signalling that it wasn’t closed properly before and I wondered why.

I decided not to think about it too much and instead concentrate on the reason why I’m here. I just want to bury myself in books and forget about everything that’s going on for a little while. Maybe I might find a good idea or two in some of these books.

My not so good experience with the last book I picked up isn’t reason enough to stop me from loving books. I’ll only stop reading books when I die.

I walk into the library and slowly close the door behind me. My mouth falls open when I see how huge the library is. Prince Virgil certainly hadn’t been exaggerating when he said the library might probably have the largest collection of books in the world. There are shelves upon shelves of books that they almost reach the ceiling.

I inhale deeply and the lovely smell of books just waiting to be read fills me with so much joy. I walk towards the shelf closest to me and pick up a book. Luckily, it’s a fiction book and the title seems quite interesting.

I don’t bother to take a look at the blurb before heading towards the reading table at the center of the library but as soon as I walk towards the reading furniture, my eyes quickly catch sight of something.

My eyes widen and I hold my breath when I see King Cassius standing by a shelf on the other side of the library. He has a book and something which I think should be a scroll in his hand. He seems to be reading through both of them, his attention is totally focused on whatever he’s reading and that’s probably why he didn’t hear me come into the library.

Who could have thought that this mean looking king could be also interested in books. I’ve gotten a lot of surprises but I certainly wasn’t expecting this one.

When my shock at finding him in the library died down, it was quickly replaced by fear. I instantly remembered that this man hates me for apparently no reason so if he sees me here, he’ll look for one excuse or another to punish me.

My fear completely outweighs my earlier enthusiasm and I come to terms with the fact that the best option for me right now would probably be to leave.

I’ll just quietly tiptoe out of here and head back to my room as quickly as I can. I turn back and tiptoe towards the door and I don’t know if it’s fear or if it’s karma just playing tricks on me but I somehow drop the book I’m holding and the sound echoes through the library.

“Shit.” I mumble under my breath and quickly hide behind the nearest shelf, my breath hitching in my throat and my heart beating erratically.

“Who’s there?” I hear King Cassius’s voice boom through the library but I stay still in my hiding place, not daring to breathe.

I hear footsteps coming towards me and I close my eyes tight, clasping the hem of my dress tightly.

I can hear him just a few steps away from where I’m hiding and I brace myself for the worse but he suddenly stops and I hear him walking away steadily.

I take a deep breath and peek from beside the shelf and I don’t see him. I look more closely and he’s nowhere to be found. I release a sigh of relief gratefully, realizing that he must have left the library.

I turn back to go pick up my book when hands suddenly grab me and slam me hard against the bookshelf.

I cry out in pain and look up, my eyes suddenly come in contact with those merciless red ones and my heart skips a beat. King Cassius stares menacingly at me, his grip on my arms only tightening.
