Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 89
“What are you doing here, human? Are you spying on me now? Who sent you?” He questioned and bared his claws bringing them to rest on my neck. At that moment, my knees felt weak and if not for his grip on me, I probably would have fallen down.
I had known staying alive for long in this castle would be difficult but I certainly had not expected my life to end this way, and simply because of an honest mistake.
“I……. I……” I tried to speak but I just kept stuttering. “Speak up before I slit your throat. Why are you spying on me and who sent you here?” He questioned aggressively, his crimson red eyes darkening.
This man is beautiful no doubt but he certainly is the scariest person I’ve met, he just emits that dangerous vibes that pushes your mind into panic mode.
I’m trying to tell him the reason why I’m here but my brain is simply refusing to form a single coherent sentence despite the fact that my life is on the line.
“Your Majesty, I…… Prince Virgil…… He ………I wanted to…… Read.” I was just mumbling out nonsense in fear and mentally face palming myself.
“Are you seriously playing with me? I’m the King of Vampires, I don’t condone such acts of mockery, I asked you a simple question and you’re speaking gibberish. It’s obvious that you have a death wish. I’ve always known that there was something odd about you right from the very day that you arrived at my castle. You’re probably a spy who would rather die than reveal the name of her employer so I’ll kill you either way.” He said and raised his claws up, seemingly to put an end to my life and in that moment, I had an overdose of adrenaline and my brain and mouth finally started working.
“No. Please don’t kill me, your Majesty. I didn’t do anything, I swear I wasn’t spying on you. I was formerly indisposed and my master forced me to stay in my room for so many days so I got extremely bored and pleaded with him to let me read a book because I love reading. He was bringing me to the library but suddenly had to leave for urgent business so he gave me directions to the library instead.
I came here and saw that you were here, I knew that you hated me so I tried to leave quietly without your knowledge but the book I was holding fell from my hand so I had to hide. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry for disturbing you, your Majesty. I promise I wasn’t spying on you, please don’t kill me.” I sputtered out more quickly than I could ever have. I was crying as well.
I expected a fatal blow to a part of my body but it never came and despite the fact that I was scared half to death, I opened my left eye slightly and he was still in front of me but he had already retracted his claws.
He maintained his cold expression but it was easy to see that he wasn’t angry anymore, at least that’s what I’m hoping.
He let go of me and my legs, which were already feeling like jelly, couldn’t carry my weight so I slumped down but the unexpected happened and he caught me.
I was left completely stunned in his arms as I stared directly into his mesmerizing ruby red eyes.
“Are you going to stand up on your own or should I drop you?” He asked, instantly snapping me back to reality and I left his grip and stood up straight.
“Listen to me human, you’d better watch your actions in my castle. I don’t repeat myself twice, if you can’t be of any use, then you’d better stay in your room instead of wandering around and disturbing the peace of others. If you wish to survive, you’d better not make any wrong moves. You can take my words as a threat, a warning or some advice, whichever your small brain processes faster.” He said and walked away from me, his dominating aura still all around.
I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. How am I supposed to get anywhere with this man when we only keep meeting in awkward situations like this?
I won’t take his words lightly, I’ll just take my book and return to my room, probably call it a day.
I slowly walked to the spot where the book which I had picked was still lying lazily. I picked up the book and headed towards the door but he surprisingly stopped me.
“Did I tell you to leave?” I heard his voice echo all over the place. I swallowed. “No.” I answered simply.
“You can stay and read but you’d better not disturb me or there will be consequences.” He said and I smiled. Maybe he isn’t that bad after all, there might still be hope for him and Lucia.
I turned back and walked towards the library furniture. “Thank you so much, your Majesty.” I thanked but he didn’t reply, which is pretty much expected.
I sat on the chair and began reading my book, it was a very interesting story and I would have gotten much into it only if I could concentrate.
While reading my book, I couldn’t help but notice that the King seemed to be struggling with whatever he was doing. He seemed to be looking for an answer to something.
I was just about to mind my business when an idea came to me. Maybe I could try to help him with whatever he might be looking for. If I’m able to do that, then maybe his dislike for me will fade at least.
Though it’s risky and could otherwise lead to punishment, I have to at least give it a try.
So I clear my throat to get his attention and when that doesn’t seem to do the trick, I finally speak up. “Uh, your Majesty.” I call softly and his sharp gaze soon rests on me. “What?!” He questioned sharply, probably annoyed from getting disturbed.
“I’m so sorry to disturb you but I can’t help but notice that you seem to be searching for something, maybe an answer to some kind of question. You’re the King, you spared my life and I don’t feel good just letting you strain yourself like that, I’ve also been thinking of a way to say thank you for sparing me so I was thinking that maybe I could help you look and find what you’re looking for?” I said softly, somehow managing not to mess up my words.
I bit on my lower l*p the moment the words left my mouth. King Cassius just stared at me intently and I tensed up, fearing that he had taken it the wrong way and a punishment would probably be in tow but all of a sudden, I heard laughing.
