Rejected, Then Reborn -
Chapter 30
Rieka Howard.
Lacy did not even know how to feel at the beautiful Gamma General’s timely interruption.
She didn’t know whether to be grateful or pissed off even… but perhaps, judging by the sudden uncomfortable sensation in her chest and in her stomach, she was feeling a little bit of both.
“I knew I’d find you here, Reed,” The she-Lyken smirked, her voice a surprisingly deep, sultry timbre as she approached them, wearing a very sexy blue number that put Lacy’s nightwear to shame in leaps and bounds if it was being ranked on the most slutty outfits list.
In that moment, Lacy realised one thing;
That this Rieka Howard woman was probably a sucker for exhibitionism.
“You’re always hungry for some kind of snack—oh.” It seemed that she had finally noticed Lacy, and her next line of words actually confirmed it, “I didn’t know you had company?”
It was in this moment that the Alpha King moved away from Lacy like he had been burnt, taking along with him the cloud of l**t that had oh so suddenly blinded her, once again putting her on the path that only led to nothing but regret and even more pain.
“You must be Lacy, the human.” The gorgeous she-Lyken with the pixie-haircut stated with a curious smirk, her light brown eyes subtly checking Lacy out. Lacy stared right back.
She was very tall, her lithe, somewhat muscular frame giving her the air of some Amazonian princess. She looked like she was born to fight, and in that moment, Lacy kind of understood why she got the Gamma General position in the first place. And yet, even with all that strength just casually lounging underneath, ready to burst out at the first sight of trouble, this woman could look equal parts extremely attractive if she so pleased. Once again, admiration and jealousy so great rammed into the poor human girl.
Rieka Howard didn’t really know what to think of the scene she was witnessing. Because sure, her betrothed and the human had seemed a little too close for her liking, and sure, the girl was sporting some pretty inappropriate clothing by society standards to be meeting with the Alpha King like so. But she knew Reed, and she knew that since his return… he rarely chose his women for anything other than a mere f**k.
She, was the only exception.
And from the look of things, that was not going to change anytime soon.
Now, while it was not exactly something to boast of, given the oddities of their relationship, Rieka couldn’t help but feel that she was in a comfortable lead.
Except that now, staring at the two of them, she wasn’t really sure.
“Yes, I am the human.” The grey mortal acknowledged, her chin held surprisingly high for a human—Rieka had met a few of those once or twice, and in every instant, they had come off as disgustingly submissive.
This one was different.
“You must be the Gamma General, Rieka Howard… we met unceremoniously that other time.” The human girl was smiling as she said this, but something about it was oddly terrifying, like—like a cute kitten trying to intimidate a lion.
Rieka grinned, “Well, allow me to introduce myself formally then. It’s nice to properly meet you.”
Lacy took in the she-Lyken’s skimpy blue ensemble that seemed like it would come apart at the slightest movement. “I—well, I wish I could say the same.”
Reed’s jaw visibly dropped at Lacy’s response, while Rieka shot her a look of absolute confusion.
Okay what was going on?
The Gamma General didn’t have much time to mull it over though, for Reed pulled her away almost immediately, leaving the human girl all alone without any other word.
Lacy watched them leave, a huff slipping past her lips at his now unsurprising attitude.
She was mad at him, but it wasn’t even up to a quarter of how upset she was at herself for derailing all her progress like so.
That voice in her head had been calling her out, practically screaming at her to flee immediately her gaze had landed on him,
But she had wanted to see how things would go.
And now, she had bitten off more than she could chew.
With the revelation that she was going to have to start all over hammering down on her, the human girl tiredly trudged back to her bedroom, her late-night snack surprisingly long forgotten.
******
Friday night dawned bright and early.
And before Lacy knew it, Anaya was in her room, helping her pack a three-day journey bag for the weekend she was going to spend at her place.
“Another baggy shirt? Just how many of those do you have?” The Princess asked in exasperation.
“Those were all that were provided to me by your brother the Alpha King when he decided that I was no longer going to be kept in the dungeons. You know, baggy, practical clothes that did not need to be fitting. It’s not so bad,” The human didn’t know why she suddenly felt like defending the princess’s brother, especially after everything he had and was continuing to put her through.
“I get it. Bottom line, we’re going to have to get you a new closet of clothes.” Anaya pursed her lips conclusively.
Well, which girl could say no to free shopping?
The human was yet to meet someone like that.
“Awesome.” She simply said, her face showing all the emotion her words couldn’t convey.
The dark-haired girl observed the Lyken-Princess as they headed over to hers.
She watched her chatter excitedly about how this weekend was going to be splendid and how she couldn’t wait to show her friend her collection of special edition books among other things.
She seemed much more in high spirits than Lacy had seen her all week.
Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that they were finally going to get the chance to properly hang out ever since Lacy became a free human.
“You know, I kind of want to keep you all to myself this weekend, but my friends would have my head if I tried anything like that.” Anaya admitted to me with a sardonic smile. “The whole week, they’ve been going off about when they were finally going to meet this Lacy girl I won’t shut up about, and whatnot.”
“They sound intimidating.” Lacy visibly shivered at the mental image Anaya’s description of them had painted in her head. High class girls, probably from Delta or Epsilon, going to have a one on one stare down with a puny human who currently was no one, and who currently had nothing.
What a wonderful way to unwind and end the week.
In case you didn’t catch that, that statement was dubiously laced with sarcasm.
“Oh, believe me when I tell you they’re all bark and no bite, Lacy,” The Lyken princess shot her a look, “I wouldn’t be allowing this introduction to take place if I didn’t think you would not be able to handle yourself around them, you know?”
Lacy did not know, but she hoped for her own sake that the princess knew what she was talking about.
When the doors to the Princess’s wing flung open, Lacy’s jaws dropped along with it.
She had no words to describe all the emotions coursing through her, of which awe was the most prominent, and her eyes found not a sore sight in the lavishly and meticulously planned penthouse-like space, and so her mouth settled for the next best thing, “Wow.”
Anaya laughed at her reaction, “I’ve had a whole lot of reactions to people seeing my ‘room’ for the first time, but never have I had a ‘wow’,” She teased her friend, her beautiful face suddenly turning serious, “Want to know the funny part? That wow seems to have been laced with so much feeling that it beats any passionate speech I’ve ever heard.” The laughter returned with a vengeance.
Lacy could feel her cheeks heat up in embarrassment even as she chuckled at the princess’s good ribbing. “Shut up,” She nudged her friend, but Anaya only laughed some more.
When she had finally cooled down, she grabbed her friend by the hand and excitedly began to give her a tour of the place.
The two girls really had a good time putting those three hours to good use, and with every second that went by, Lacy found herself wishing that her own sisters had been more like the princess. She was pretty sure that life as she had known it in the Reynolds’ mansion would not have been the boring hell she remembered.
Before they knew it, there was a knock on the door, and then Anaya was shooting her a disappointed look at her silent, probing one, “The girls are here, Lacy,” She simply said.
