Rejected, Then Reborn -
Chapter 63
“A Dark Witch? What—what’s that even supposed to mean? Are you sure this isn’t just some ploy by Lucius to get the Werewolf Council to overlook how he rejected me and the implications it’ll have for him as an Alpha?” The human girl now assumed to be non-human asked.
“Lacy… ever since I was born, I was told that when the Dark Witch comes there’ll be chaos for a while… and then eventually there will be restoration.” Synn explained softly.
“I am not any Dark Witch. What chaos have I even caused?” Lacy whined, standing up, “This does not make any sense.”
“Perhaps it’s now starting.” Reed mused out loud. “You started to get those visions, Lacy… remember?”
“They’ve stopped, Reed, you know this… why are you bringing it up now?” She eyed him.
“What visions?” The Mother of Thorns asked, and Reed told her everything.
“Oh gods, it’s happening even sooner than I expected.” The Hex exclaimed, a little fear making its way into her eyes. Lacy shivered, and she didn’t know if it was because of the sudden approach of Winter here in Lyken Territory or just the fact that she was worried about whatever ominous thing Synn was going to say. “It is said that your powers starting to manifest is what is going to cause the untold chaos. You will struggle to control it, and it will completely overwhelm you. Your ability to overcome it is what will actually bring about the restoration the prophecy is talking about.”
“No powers are manifesting guys, let’s calm down.” She was almost hysterical at this point. “Those visions Reed is talking about were just a one-time thing that I’m pretty sure had to do with whatever mind cleansing concoction you gave me.” Lacy eyed the Hex in annoyance.
In that moment, everyone else in the room was just pissing her off for some reason, and yes… even her mate was included. And so, without any other word, she stood up and left the room.
The two weeks that followed saw Lacy, Reed and everyone else fully help nurse the Lyken Princess back to health, but things were changing. Winter was almost here, and it was weird, but the change in weather seemed to be doing something to the human girl.
She was becoming more and more snarky, getting upset at the least thing. There were days when she was her usual charming self… when she got along with everyone, her mate especially.
He’d take her out to the most romantic of restaurants, sometimes going as far as to completely buy the space out so they’d have it all to themselves.
There were other times too when they’d dine out under the stars, getting to know each other more and more. Their relationship was quickly turning into the romantic one she always read in her many novels, wondering when she’d get to experience it firsthand, and the human girl was loving every minute of it.
They wanted to wait till after winter, so they’d go ahead with getting married, and though the s****l tension between them was off the charts, they hadn’t gone past a very thorough make out session every time it came down to it.
This was the part that pissed Lacy off a bit on those her off days, because she knew why Reed was being careful… knew that the Alpha King feared that he could lose control when pleasure entered the equation, and that Ace could hurt her, and she understood that perfectly well, but there were just those days when as much as she tried, nothing made sense and everything made her upset, and it saddened her, but she took it out on everyone.
She had even resorted to avoiding Anaya now as a result of it… because she didn’t want to set the princess back with her words when she had one of those days.
Currently, she was sitting in her room, bundled up in thick fur clothes, still shivering as hell from the cold even though the heater was on full blast. She heard a knock, and Reed was poking his head in, smiling at her. She tried to shoot him one back, but it only came out as a scowl, and then before she could rein it in, she was saying the words, “What do you want?”
Reed stepped into the room, but he didn’t close the door, and just when her temper was going to make her go off at him, Synn Gloom walked in, her cane thumping so loudly against the floor that Lacy just lost it. “What’s this?” She asked, her anger and irritation already beginning to burn bright.
“It’s an intervention, my love.” Reed said calmly, looking into her eyes as he closed the distance and reached for her hand.
He was looking handsome in casual black jeans and a white shirt, with a leather jacket to complete the look.
Lacy felt her panties begin to dampen as she imagined herself riding him senseless. She couldn’t care less about the Hex, she could watch if she wanted to, hell… now that Lacy was thinking about it, the thought of someone watching them f**k gave her even more pleasure than she could have ever imagined.
What in the name of everything that was holy was going on?!
What the hell was happening to her?
“Lacy, the darkness has started to get a hold of you, child.” Synn explained softly, her head c****d to the side in concern. “You need to let me help you, so you can fight it off. It is what is causing your crazy mood swings, and I’m afraid it is only going to get worse from here.”
It all made sense.
And Lacy wanted nothing more than to get help so she could be normal again, but there was just something in her that was pushing her to fight back.
“I don’t need your help! I am perfectly fine.” By now, her anger was past critical levels.
“LACY, LOOK!” Reed pointed at the mirror beside her, and Lacy’s gaze followed his hands to the mirror, her b***d chilling at the sight that greeted her eyes.
Her eyes were jet black. Wisps of dark smoke and a haze surrounded her body in an aura, even her hands, and her hair, were emanating the same dark smoke.
Surprisingly, her first reaction at the sight was calm.
Lacy was so calm that the smoke slowly started to evaporate into nothingness, but then it seemed like it all finally dawned on her at one point, for she let out a piercing scream… one that was so powerful that it sent a surge of dark smoke shooting across the entire room, knocking everyone down and leaving the room in disorganization and chaos.
The Alpha King was the first one to recover.
He shot up to his feet in a daze, silently wondering what the f**k had just happened. He heard the old Hex g***n softly as she also struggled to her feet.
But there was no sign of Lacy.
Panicking, he began to lift things and search.
When the Alpha King eventually found her in the now messy room, she was still unconscious. He was by her side in a minute, trying to rouse her awake, but she was eerily cold to the touch.
The Alpha King froze, a sickening sense of dread filling his entire body and chilling him to the bone even as he tentatively reached for her creamy neck to check her pulse.
There was nothing.
“Your Eminence?” Synn called out softly when he still sat there frozen, and he looked up at her, disbelief and tears in his eyes even as he whispered the words, “She’s dead, Synn. She’s gone.”
