Rejected, Then Reborn -
Chapter 64
“She’s not dead, Reed.”
“Stop pulling my legs, Synn.” The Alpha King snapped at the Mother of Thorns, his chest heaving with uncontrolled anger. “It’s clearly obvious that she’s not breathing, and that her heart has stopped beating. Why the f**k are you doing this to me?” His gaze shot up to look at her, his eyes red with unshed tears.
You know, it was crazy, but he had been trying so hard not to give in to this miraculous bond all because he had been afraid to be hurt, and it seemed pretty ironic and anticlimactic that just when he had decided that he was going to give it a shot, the very same fate that had practically pushed the girl upon his shoulders would so cruelly take her away from him.
“Like I said, Your Eminence, she’s still very much alive. Her body has just wisely shut down to protect her from the dark energy she was manifesting.” The Hex repeated, informing the Alpha King.
“So, when will she wake up?” He hated that his cold, dark heart was already starting to heat up, already starting to be filled with the warm embers of hope, and he quickly did his best to douse it with the chill, extinguishing dose of reality.
“It’s hard to say.” Came the answer. “This is unlike anything I have ever seen in my entire life.”
Before she could say more, there was the dark haze again… it emanated from the human girl and spread through to the entire room, leaving the Alpha King and the Hex in silent wonder as they observed the dark mist in awe, watching as it arranged the once chaotic room, restoring it back to the order it once was.
“Amazing.”
The Mother of Thorn’s whisper was almost reverent as she took it all in. “I’ve never seen power this prevailing, it’s almost surreal.” As if that wasn’t enough, the strange dark energy morphed into a human like form and then headed straight for the human girl looking like she was only sleeping in the Alpha King’s arms, and then it tried to take her away from him.
Reed held on for dear life, not wanting to let go.
He didn’t know, but he’d be damned if he let any dark energy take her away from him now, especially when it was the same dark energy that had put her in this state in the first place.
“Let her go, Reed… you will get hurt!”
But he ignored the old Hex, struggling with the dark mist until he was on his feet, Lacy stuck between them as they each fought to have her in their arms.
“YOUR EMINENCE, LET GO OF HER!”
The sharp jab of dark mist that hit him right in the face had him doing exactly as she had asked, albeit unwillingly.
He fell to the ground, clutching his neck as he struggled to breathe, the dark power that had entered him seemingly too much for him… but before the Alpha King could make sense of anything that was happening, his Lyken beast was taking over, instinctively sensing that his human half was in danger.
Ace knew very well when he gained control that Reed would not rest and gain his strength back until he knew that the damned human woman was okay, and so he begrudgingly growled at the dark mist fully wielding her in its arms, relaxing his ferociousness a little bit when he realised that the mist only wanted to lay her on the bed.
“What is that, Synn?” He growled out the words in confused wonder, a weird feeling making its way into his chest, pushing him step by step towards the bed, even as his huge dark head c****d to the side in baffled interest.
The strange, dark energy stood by the side of the bed after it had placed her down almost reverently… hovering over the human girl, observing her in a way that was almost loving, that was almost motherly… and then just when the Alpha Lyken wolf got close to the bed, it went up in the air and then jumped right into her chest, disappearing without a trace, the only evidence convincing them that everything they had seen had happened being the fact that Lacy was back on the bed when moments ago, she had been on the floor in Reed’s arms.
But something had changed.
Ace could feel it.
His chest.
His heart…
It was suddenly burning for the girl… yearning for her.
“Your Eminence?” Synn Gloom called out tentatively as the huge, dark beast slowly inched towards the comatose-like human.
She had heard enough of the beast’s hatred for the human girl to be wary of his intentions towards her, and honest to the gods, she almost reached out to try a sleep-inducing chant to weaken the creature, but she just had a gut feeling that had her putting all of that on hold as she observed the beast.
The ruthless Lyken wolf stopped just at the foot of her bed, leaning in to sniff her.
It seemed like eons as Synn stood there, her arms outstretched, ready to put him to sleep him any minute if he tried anything crazy, but the beast King only continued to breathe her in, sniffing her from head to toe.
He suddenly let out a small, helpless whine that had the Mother of Thorns inexplicably surprised, because hey… this was the Lyken King of the B***d Moon Clan here… the ruthless Ace, whose almost sickening wickedness, and thrill for bloodlust and punishing people he strongly believed were in the wrong in leaps and bounds preceded him everywhere he went.
Hell, just the mention of his name sent a fearful chill running down the spines of many… even those who did not know him, and yet, here he was… letting out needy whimpers for whatever strange reason.
“Ace?” The old Hex who knew not from whence she came tried to call for him again, but the beast was completely fixated on the human girl it seemed, and the little whimper he let out again confirmed that.
The temperature in the room dropped a scary octave, and Synn Gloom looked to the human worriedly.
They really needed to keep her warm, even with the weird state she was in.
She was still human after all, and while Supernaturals like herself did not mind the biting cold, she knew that it could have adverse effects on the poor girl, but with the strange way the Lyken wolf was behaving, the old Hex couldn’t even begin to formulate the words to bring it up.
Things took an even surprising turn when the huge Lyken wolf began to lick the human, starting from her face and working his way down, licking at her dress, licking her feet, licking her all over.
At this point, the poor Mother of Thorns was overwhelmed, and she truly hated how helpless she felt in that moment, but there was still that voice in her head, silently telling her to hold on for a little bit longer to see what would happen.
Her breath caught in her throat when the giant beast climbed the bed, gently stepping over the human, and then curling up beside her, resting his huge head on her ample chest. He let out a sleepy yawn, and then licked his snout,
And then just when Synn Gloom was starting to relax, he said the words she never thought she’d hear him say…
“MATE.”
