Rejected, Then Reborn -
Chapter 71
After being cooped up in Lacy’s room with her for almost a week, the Alpha King couldn’t ignore his duties forever, and he had had to return to work, though he did seize every little break he got to check up on her, and no matter how packed with activities he was, he always made sure that if nothing at all, they always had at least breakfast, lunch and supper together.
At this point, the Dark Witch was almost like a prisoner all over again, but even she understood why it was important that it be so.
Her powers were becoming clearer and more defined… not all of it, the ones she already had, which were reading minds, being able to control things, and people… and sexually torturing her mate until he shut himself in the bathroom and turned on the shower to douse the effects of her powers.
Now, that one was always hilarious.
But in a weird way, their ordeal had brought them even closer together in many ways than actual s*x ever could, and it was nice getting to understand him and his wolf like that.
One would think with Lacy being cooped up all over again, her life would resort to being boring, but really, it was anything but.
She spent every moment practicing her powers, mostly the mind reading and the ability to control stuff, and she steered clear off the vampiric side of her, though it did claim her only a few times when Reed wasn’t around.
It mostly preferred when he was in her presence, where riling him up was always worth even more pleasure given that she knew he couldn’t touch her back.
But Lacy was increasingly becoming confident.
She could feel the change washing all over her like sea waves gently did the sand at the shore, and she was loving every bit of it.
She and Reed had had a talk in the morning before he had left her all alone, and they had decided that if she made it through the day without any more hitches, they’d cautiously allow her to go out.
And so, the Dark Witch—side note, she was really starting to like the name, it sounded so badass, and really, she couldn’t wait to get into what this new life had for her.
“Lacy.”
Lacy heard the mention of her name, and a puzzled look made its way onto her face, for she was alone in the room, and the word had certainly not come from behind the door.
But she stood up and humored herself nonetheless, heading to the door and opening it and risking a peep outside.
There was no one there just like she knew there wouldn’t be, and she closed the door once more, wondering where the mention of her name had come from.
Lacy’s heart skipped a beat when she turned, causing her to send dark energy pulsing straight at the strange woman who suddenly stood in the middle of her room, one which the woman deflected with ease, a chuckle of amusement making its way onto her graceful, otherworldly face. “Nice to finally meet you in person, Dark Witch,”
“Who are you?” Lacy’s head was raised high, her body oozing hundred percent confidence and zero percent fear as a ball of dark energy danced in her right hand, ready to hit her target at any moment she deemed fit.
“I am Selene, the Moon Goddess,” Came the melodious reply.
It was soothing, like gentle waves hitting rocks at the beach, and there was just something calm and relaxing about it that made Lacy want to curl up on the woman’s lap and go to bed, but she still didn’t trust her one bit.
“And I’m supposed to just take your word for it?” An eyebrow shot up, “What are you doing here? What do you want from me?”
“So many questions, I’ll try my best to answer them all for you, my love. Your hair…” The Supposed Moon Goddess trailed off, staring at her, her head c****d to the side in interest, “It’s fully blond now, and that’s why I am here.”
“Okay?” Lacy couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped her lips, for it was crazy that of all the reasons a powerful deity like the Moon Goddess would give for coming to find her, like coming to help her stabilize her powers, or, she didn’t know, perhaps telling her what was in store for her as the Dark Witch, that was what she decided to settle with. “Okay, so let me get this straight, you put me through a lot, constantly made me think that I had you on my side and then ghosted me over and over again, and then when you finally show up, it’s my hair you want to talk about?” The ball of dark energy in her hand started to glow a dark red, a tell-tale sign that her temper was rising.
But the Moon Goddess was still very calm. “Lacy, child… I never left your side; I was with you every step of the way. Everything that happened to you needed to happen to get you to this very moment, it has always been your destiny…”
“Then this destiny fg sucks!” She threw at her, angry tears welling up in her eyes, “Finding that your husband who had always sworn to protect you is just casually cheating on you, and just so happens to want you dead, and actually goes on to kill you in multiple scenarios sure kind of stings, don’t you think? Then as if that isn’t enough, you get a second chance mate who almost seems worse with a wolf who cannot even recognize you as his mate. You get reunited with your family, but you have to choose your happiness over them, and then as if that is not enough, you cannot even f*k your mate because some stupid rule dictates that you have to, please spare me the bull!”
“It’s over now, Lacy,” The tall, regal looking woman took a step forward, and then another, closing the distance between them, the ball of red light dissipating in Lacy’s hands as the calm peace intensified with each step the Goddess took, “It’s all over.” She whispered again, “Your hair has completed its change, this means that the darkness has completely stabilized within you. Now, instead of it controlling you, you control it, and I’m pretty sure you noticed the changes this morning.”
It was true, she did.
“Your powers are still a mess, no doubt, but that will settle when you fully start to trust in yourself and in your abilities, and you have quite a few more to unlock. I trust that you will try as much as possible to use them for good.”
Lacy shot the deity a smirk, one that was so dark, emphasizing who she really was, “Well, I have a few things to take care of first… who knows, maybe after all of that, I will think about this good you speak of. But I really do not think I can be good, not when I’ve been waiting so long for this moment.”
Rather than admonish her like Lacy had expected her to, the Moon Goddess actually smiled back, “Trust me, Lacy… I myself have desperately been waiting for this moment of truth… I believe some people need to be… taught a lesson. This revenge has long been coming.” She threw a grin the girl’s way, causing Lacy to let out a surprised chuckle.
Well, she’d be damned.
This time Lacy’s grin was wide, and she closed the distance between them, accepting the warm embrace of the Moon Goddess.
It felt just right.
