The new Supernatural Council Headquarters was never not going to be magnificent for Reed.

It was unlike anything he had ever seen, and he remembered how getting it established had caused his mate so much energy.

He should have known even then that that was just going to be the start of her expending energy recklessly without a mind for her health, but he had just brushed it off as a one-time thing and had her promise him that it wouldn’t happen again, and he thought that had settled it.

Only it had happened time and time again for who knows how long?

Who knew just how many times she had experienced this and kept it all bottled up, hoping that he’d never find out?

Reed walked into the impressive building, his breath catching in his throat once more as he stared at its opulent grand hall.

With its superhigh ceilings and twin winding banisters that opened onto a gorgeous balcony, Lacy’s seat of rule screamed total perfection.

The grand hall had been designed like a museum of sorts, filled with relics and artifacts and ceiling high shelves filled with books on all the realms, (from Werecreatures, to Vampires, to Faefolk to Lykens to Humans… everything was available.) It wasn’t surprising that the grand hall was currently packed with creatures from all the realms who flocked in from time to time, wanting to know more about their culture while exploring other cultures too.

When Reed finally made it past the crowd and up the stairs to the small room his mate and the love of his was for the most parts cooped up in, he felt the immense calm that always came with breathing in her enthralling scent.

Instantly he felt satiated,

The initial anger and confusion he had rushed here with all dissipating when he took in her beautiful presence.

She hadn’t noticed him yet, caught up with examining some blueprints with three senior council members.

The men on the other hand, one fae and two werewolves noticed him, and their silence when she asked them a question made her notice him too.

“H—hey Reed!” She seemed nervous, “We weren’t expecting you here so early? The monthly meeting is tomorrow night, and you told me you weren’t even sure you could make it because you had to attend to some issues in Blue Valley, so how come you’re here?”

Reed couldn’t keep his eyes off of her.

She looked lovely and radiant as ever, but there was this air of tiredness around her that he knew she did her best to conceal… for while it was not so obvious, he caught on. Yes, that was how much he knew his mate.

Perhaps, it must have been something about the intense way he was looking at her that made the council members uncomfortable, causing them to weirdly mumble some words about having other things to attend to and then dashing off as though their arses were on fire, but it was all for the best, he wanted her all to himself anyway.

Lacy looked at Reed expectantly, a hint of worry on her face as she tried to ransack her brain for what could have possibly caused him to plan a surprise visit to see her without even telling her about it.

Could it be that they were having couple problems?

Maybe he needed to vent about how they weren’t spending much time together?

She didn’t know, and she was worried, okay?

The ruthless Alpha King took her by the hand and led her to a couch in the corner of the room, sitting down beside her and pulling her close to him. “Lacy, I had to come here. I needed to see you, badly,” He confessed softly, looking into her soft green eyes. “Something’s really been bothering me, and I couldn’t wait until tomorrow’s meeting to talk to you about it.”

“What is it, Reed? You’re scaring me,” Lacy threw at him, her voice trembling slightly, “Are you coming to end things with me? I—listen, I know I haven’t been the perfect mate material in the last couple of months, but we’re so close and I do not want our little experiment to fall down flat on its face just when things were starting to pick up—”

“Woah, woah, woman… what are you talking about?” He held her by the shoulders, shaking her softly to… I don’t know, kickstart her senses?

The Alpha King took a deep breath, “I’m not ending things with you, Lace… and I never will, so get that straight.” He told her sternly. “I’m just concerned about how you seem to be expending your energy recklessly.”

Oh.

“They told you about the fainting spell, didn’t they?” She asked with a heavy sigh, and her mate nodded in the affirmative, “How do you think I felt having to hear it from a stranger when just yesterday we had had a conversation and you didn’t even mention it much less hint at it, Lacy?”

Lacy couldn’t talk.

“You know I thought you using that much energy was just going to a one-time thing, that the last time you’d try something as dangerous and reckless would be when you were building this place, but my love, you seem to doing it continuously and honestly speaking, I’m seriously worried about your health, because being immortal doesn’t mean you can’t die, Lace… it just means that something that might be fatal on others, wouldn’t be as effective on you. That don’t mean that you still can’t get dangerously hurt.”

As Lacy carefully listened to him go on and on, her expression slowly changed from worry to guilt as he spoke.

He wasn’t lying.

She was exhausted, and trying to hide her exhaustion from everyone and keeping it all bottled up, hoping that everyone, especially Reed wouldn’t find out.

“I’m sorry, my love.” She flung herself into his arms, her voice breaking slightly as she continued, “I didn’t mean to worry you,” This time the tears were just dropping from her eyes. “I just wanted to make sure that everything was perfect for the Council, and I didn’t want to let anyone down.”

The Alpha King hugged her tightly, feeling the warmth of her body against his. “I really get that, my love,” He admitted, “But you really don’t have to do everything on your own, Lace. You have a whole Council behind you and a mate who loves and supports you (which is me by the way, just in case you didn’t catch that).” He smirked when she chuckled through her tears quickly turning serious once more, “You certainly don’t have to try too hard to be perfect all the time. Gods know you already are to me.”

Lacy sniffled long and hard, wiping away her tears.

Her people had finally accepted her, and her coronation was due almost any day from now… and here she was, bawling her heart out like a baby just because her mate had found out that she was keeping secrets.

Some queen she was going to be.

“I know, Reed.” She confessed. Really, it wasn’t like she didn’t know she was being too hard on herself; it was just that she wanted to make sure things were totally in place. “I really need your help. I guess I just don’t know how to slow down, and I know that this is tied to feeling like everything will simply fall apart if I do. I guess I just got carried away with everything, but I promise I’ll try to take better care of myself. You have my word on that.”

Reed smiled and kissed her forehead, pulling back to cup her face in his hands and wiping away her tears with his thumbs, “That’s all I ask, my love. I just want you to be healthy and happy. And with what you said about things falling apart, you know that’s not true, Lacy. You’re strong and capable, but even the strongest of us need a break sometimes. You have us to fall on when those moments do come around. Let us take care of you… let me take care of you for a change.”

Reed got down on his knees, reaching for her left foot and gently taking off her heel.

He did the same thing to the right, and then slowly, softly, he began to kneed the aches and burns and pain away, massaging her feet in a sensual and yet clinical manner.

“Oh, Reed… you make me so happy.” The Dark Queen admitted softly as she relaxed, enjoying the massage that seemed to go on forever, just relishing in the company of her mate and the peaceful quiet that came with it.

When Reed finally finished with his ministrations and climbed back to sit beside her, Lacy did not even wait, she attacked him with need and want and l**t, claiming his lips deeply for a pleasurable k**s.

It all happened in a fast motion, from Lacy bolting the door shut with magic, to the way she fumbled with his belt and zipper as he made quick work of ruining her beautiful dress, to how she sheathed him in her warm, wet heat, riding him until both of them came violently in each other’s arms.

And then Lacy was collapsing onto his chest. “Now, would you look at that,” She chuckled softly, “I think I’m all better.” She declared.
