Chapter 106

Sloan’s POV

B***d Rose pack

I knew they were plotting, and that it was going to happen at lunch. I was kind of dreading it. I have actually wanted to wait until dinner for this, but no sense in putting it off. This is about to happen now, I am good, we can go ahead and get this over with. I do not have to drink it, all I have to do is take it from her hand. I can do this, but I don’t know if I can do this without screaming at Anna, and her lamebrain friends. She thinks that I am an i***t, obviously. Who would trust her ever again after how she welcomed me? We had been talking and acting normally when Elena went over to get her drink. We all knew what was going to happen as they had been at the drinks station for about 5 minutes now. They could have filled 100 glasses by this time, so they had to have been “fixing” mine over there. Elena was deliberately sent over to the drink area after Council member Teresa went and put her phone over there to record the whole conversation.

They did their normal thing of ignoring anyone they didn’t consider to be important, and totally ignored Teresa standing right next to them. I finally have to land on being happy with this, for the fact they were not the brightest. Because honestly, I could have been killed by now if they would have been smarter about it. They could have conned someone into letting them put together my food, and let it build up gradually in my system the last few days, but they never even considered it. I have not felt bad about anything that I have eaten yet, so I think I will luck out in this, and this is the only opportunity that they will get to come and try to poison me. Maybe she is messing this up because she is so focused on Dawson, and getting him to want her, instead of getting rid of the person that she feels is standing in her way. But the minute she accepted to carry this out, was the beginning of the end for her. It was really her decision to make, no one can force someone else to do something like this unless they wanted to. No one took or threatened to kill her family, she is doing all this based on her own wants and desires, and she will have to live with the outcome of it.

We are all watching the show between Elena and Anna, without being obvious about it. We don’t want them to realize that we are watching what is happening. But no one expected Anna to yell out “No!” like that. She was panicked and upset when she did it, and I wonder how Elena was able to get her to react like that. Elena doesn’t mind messing with people. She is also good at working people to where she wants them to be because she is pretty smart. I have to smile because I know that she is messing with Anna right now, to get her worked up to try to trip her up. Elena asked to do it too, she really doesn’t like Anna, and sisn;t have a problem volunteering to do this part of it. It is working too, Anna is clearly flustered over there and visibly upset. Elena comes back a few minutes later and is calm as can be. She gives a smile, and then said, “Be ready, she will be here soon.”

She was right, a few minutes later, I see Anna heading towards our table with slow steps, with her buddies right behind her. I started recording on my phone and put it face down on the table, so they wouldn’t see the screen and know what I was doing. I am at the end of the table, with Dawson next to me, so I placed it where it would record her handing the drink off to me. I know there are other cameras in here, but this will catch her bright red nail polish handing that cup to me in a closer shot. We did this deliberately as I needed to be where she could get access to me. Normally I am on the bench seat in the middle of the table between Elena, and Dawson. My family was sitting across from me, with Vincent directly across from me, Beth next to him, and Moira next to Beth. Dominic and Morgana are the next two in line. Heath stayed upstairs in the office, and Elena was next to Morgana. I think that she wanted to be able to get free and come over to me if she felt I needed help. She was really pissed off at Anna and was showing an unbelievable amount of restraint right now. Tanner and Gabi were across from Elena, then Michelle, Peyton, Percy, Dawson, and then me on the bench seating. Everyone was acting normally, and it was probably because I didn’t have to ingest anything for this to work that we were all calm.

I couldn’t believe how many people were helping me out with this. That they loved me enough already to do this, was so lovely. Just knowing that everyone at our table was willing to leap to my defense at any moment, almost brought me to tears. Plus, the men upstairs helping me, willing to swear at the trial that they saw it, and stand up for me. The female Council Member had been willing to get close to them to get what they were saying recorded. That wasn’t safe for her either, she was an older lady and there were three against one if they saw her, and what she was doing she would have been in danger. Yet, she still volunteered to do it. She was at the table next to us eating all alone. All these people are here to help me, out of love and respect for my new family. It was more than I have ever experienced before, and I was overcome with emotions. The baby was probably not helping out either because I had been a little more emotional for the last week. I wasn’t actually even listening to Anna talk. It would all be lies coming out of her mouth anyway so I know I wouldn’t be missing much. Plus, I was recording, so I could go back and listen to it if I needed to. I was just trying to fend off the tears and not cry my eyes out at all the support that I was receiving right now.

There was silence now at the table, so I looked up at Anna, who had her eyebrow up at me, obviously waiting for me to say something back to her. I glanced at the girls behind her, and they were both expecting me to say something too. I have no idea what to say though. I had not been listening to a word she said, so I don’t know how to properly respond to it right now. Anna sighs loudly, at my lack of response, like she is heartbroken at me giving her a hard time. Is she serious? She is literally trying to kill me, and SHE is playing the victim? Her pretentious attitude knows no bounds.

“Sloan, again, I am sorry for the disrespect that I showed you, and I won’t do it again. Please forgive my rash acts and forgive me for my actions. I was wrong for doing that and I promise you that I will never do anything bad to you again after today” Anna said to me, clearly almost grinding her teeth in frustration at having to repeat herself. I guess she got mad that she had to demean herself again to me. I smiled at her because that last line was obviously a dig at after today, she wouldn’t have to do anything else to me. She just can’t stop herself, can she? Well, if we needed any proof of the fact that she had tampered with that drink, that was it. Maybe instead of praying to the Goddess for her to be the Luna, maybe she should have prayed for more sense. I was glad to get this over with now and take that drink from her.

“Anna thank you so much for your gracious apology to me. I am happy to accept it and tell you that I understand why you did it. You couldn’t have been happy to find out that Dawson had found his mate. Even knowing that you were not his true mate, I imagine that it was probably a big shock to you seeing me here already marked and mated with Dawson, which caused you to act out at the town hall. I do not blame you at all for your actions. I can understand as Dawson has my heart and I cannot imagine my life without him, just as he probably couldn’t imagine his life with me in it”. I leaned into Dawson after I said that, and he wrapped his arm around me, and hugged me into him. “You are exactly right, Sloan. I love you more than my own life, which I would gladly give up to save you or our pup’s life.”

We heard gasps coming from the table around us, as although Dawson was speaking normally, with our hearing it was like he was at their table. The news hadn’t been announced yet, so only the people at our table knew. Even Council member Teresa had not known going into this, so she had gasped as well. I guess the cat is out of the bag now that we were going to have a baby, and she now knew why we needed to change the plan up. This made it an even more serious crime if she handed me that drink now. I have to say that I am curious as to whether or not she will do it now. With Dawson’s announcement, it isn’t just me that she would be killing, it is the heir to the pack, and put her in even more serious trouble. I see her anger at what he had said so caringly to me as her face flushed and then darkened. I saw Carrie reach forward to put her hand on Anna’s arm that held the drink, in an effort to tell her to stop, and walk away now. Anna shakes her hand off of her arm, and Jennifer never moved or said a word. They are all in now, and it looks like only Carrie may live to see another day. I watched several emotions cross Anna’s attractive face, before her expression stopped, on anger. She recovered quickly, and then put a bright smile on her face.

“I am so happy for you both and for the future of the B***d Rose pack. This baby will be the next Alpha and I want to be the first to congratulate you both. I hope that he is as handsome as Dawson is. You need to be sure and stay hydrated in your pregnancy, so please accept this drink as an apology to you for my horrible behavior” Anna said to me, and her knuckles are white with the grip she has on the glass that she extended towards me.

“Thank you so much for the care and well-wishes that you are giving us both. I am so glad to be in a pack where people treat others so well. It is a blessing, and I am thankful to the Goddess for all of my pack members. But especially for Dawson, his family, and my family here at the table. Without them, I would not be able to be as strong as I am right now. I love each and every person seated at this table, and I wanted you to know that” I said to them with my drink held high in a toast. They held their glasses up for the toast as well and then they drank. I heard Carrie say, “Luna, do not drink that” in a low tone, but we all heard what she said. Anna whirled around and punched her hard in the face, knocking her out cold. Both Anna and Jennifer pick one of Carrie’s arms up and go to try to drag her away, with Anna calling back to our group, “I didn’t mean to hit her, but I thought that she was going to be disrespectful to you Sloan. Carrie was the one who had encouraged me to give you such a hard time at the town hall. We will take her to the pack hospital right now to be taken care of, sorry for interrupting your meal.”

“Stop Anna! You and Jennifer need to stop right now” Tanner stands up from the end of the booth and stalks towards them. It wasn’t a request, it was an Alpha Command. He takes Carrie from their arms, and they are frozen in place unable to move now due to the command. They were also too scared to speak now, as well. A warrior arrives soon after, and Tanner places Carrie in his arms and said, “Take her to the hospital. Stay with her and do not allow her to leave the room. I will come and speak to her shortly after the doctor has tended to her. Do not harm her, but if she tries to leave, you can cuff her to the bed”

Anna and Jennifer’s eyes got bigger as Tanner turns back to them with ice in his gaze as he looks at them both. He said nothing, just clearly started to mindlink for a few minutes. Gabi comes to stand right next to him, and she is furious, it is all over her face exactly how angry she is. A few more people line up next to them as Tanner continues to link someone; Percy, Peyton, Elena, and Michelle all stand there, not saying a word to them. Anna and Jennifer get more nervous with everyone staring at them, and they all wait for Tanner to speak. Dawson and I stayed in the booth, with my family members, and I put the dosed drink down on the table. I then pick my phone up and hold it to where it is now recording what is currently happening. But I held the phone low, so it is not obvious what I am doing. I don’t want to miss this. I am interested in seeing it all play out. A short time later two couples show up in the doorway of the dining room. They had clearly run the whole way here, before looking around, and then coming to stand by their daughters. OK, so he wanted their parents to come to watch this too. They looked at their daughters but did not say anything, as they could tell that this was a tense situation.

The elevator pinged its arrival and a minute later King Sebastian, Council member Anthony Miller, Heath, and 4 men entered the dining room. I see the parents of Anna, and Jennifer, both bow their heads exposing their necks in respect to the Alpha King, but other than Heath, they didn’t know who the rest of the men were. Anna and Jennifer seem too scared to move now. One of the men had a kit with him and walked to our table. He handed a camera to Dawson and had him record him running the tests on my drink. Took a large dropper covered in plastic out, unwrapped it, and stirred my drink, with the dropper. He then filled the dropper up a total of two times, putting the contents of my cup into both of them to run tests. The room was silent, and so when the contents of the glass were put into the testers, we all heard the groaning sound that Anna and Jennifer both made at the contents of the glass being checked. King Sebastian then motions towards Anna and has two of his personal guards check her pockets, with them each finding a vial in her front pockets. “Those are not mine. I don’t know who put them in there, but I don’t know what either of those vials are” Anna said, already laying the groundwork for her defense. She sees a number of people filming her with their cell phones, but she has no idea about the cameras that had been installed in the dining room earlier.

“Andrew, when will the results be available?” I heard Tanner call out.

“Twenty minutes Alpha. I have run two tests, one for substances specific to killing werewolves, and the second one is a regular test that checks for everything, which takes longer. I ran it so we can know exactly what was in the glass, it could contain more poisons than the case-specific tests will note. I have found in my experience that it is best to use both tests. The longer test will show exactly what is in that drink. But the one that is specific for werewolves will be the first one complete at the twenty-minute mark” Andrew answered back.

“What have you done?” I heard the woman with Anna cry out. I have to assume it is her mother, and they looked stunned at her behavior.

“I have told you about listening to, and following Anna, Jennifer. I told you that she is not a good she-wolf, yet you continue to do her bidding. What did you do?” the woman with Jennifer hissed at her in a low tone, but we all clearly heard her.

“Mom, she said that she will be Dawson’s chosen mate after we did this and that she would Luna command Greyson to accept me as his mate” Jennifer started sobbing loudly and turned to her mother for help.

We watched the shocked look cross her parent’s faces, before looking right at Tanner and then dropping to their knees on the floor. “We are sorry, we did not know that our daughter would be stupid enough to listen to and go along with whatever Anna has planned. Please spare her, as she wasn’t thinking correctly for her to make such a horrible error in judgment” her father cried out for help with the situation.

“You all know what the sentence is for attempting to kill the Luna” Gabi growled out.

“Luna Gabi, Jennifer is easily led by Anna, they have been friends for a long time. Technically Sloan is not the Luna yet, she has not had her ceremony. Please, spare her, and we will leave the pack in banishment if you will allow it. She made an error in judgment about her friend and made a bad choice. But Jennifer doesn’t have a reason to have ill intentions towards Sloan” Jennifer’s mother cried out for help.

“Let me ask you this Darcy? If Jennifer was pregnant and someone threatened her, would you “let it go” if it was your grandchild? Or actually, better yet, do YOU think I will let it go that they did this, right after Dawson told them that Sloan was pregnant with the heir to the B***d Rose pack?” Gabi said to her, and the sobbing got louder. All six of them were now crying their eyes out. Until Gabi announced my pregnancy to them, they thought that maybe they could get off on a technicality on this. They were right, I hadn’t formally taken over as the Luna yet, but that didn’t matter. I had been announced and introduced to the pack, I was mated and marked by the next Alpha of the B***d Rose pack, I was considered a Luna at this time. They were wrong, even I knew that, and I don’t know all of the werewolf laws. They just didn’t like the fact that I was his mate, so they were going to cut out the middleman.

I am stunned that they have the nerve to act shocked and disappointed at their daughters being punished over this, and before I can stop myself, I stand up and said, “OK, we can settle this now, before it goes any further. Let me ask your parents, where were you the night of the mandatory town hall meeting? Were you not there? For a mandatory meeting? Did you not see the blatant disrespect that I was being given? The vicious comments that were made to try to make me look bad as the next Luna of the pack that I will soon be leading with Dawson. That I am somehow less, or not worthy to lead, because I am a hybrid. I didn’t see any of you coming forward to stop them or to even link them to let them know that they had gone too far with what they were saying. I have a wolf, and she is strong. My witch side can only help me do even more to help to protect this pack. The Goddess chose me to be his mate, so tell me why I should “let it go” when your daughters planned on killing me. For absolutely no reason, other than to take mates that did not belong to them, away from their true mates. Anna literally knocked out her friend Carrie completely out, for trying to caution me not to drink that drink. I tell you all what, I WILL let it go. But only if Jennifer and Anna split the rest of the drink between them, and drink it themselves.”
