Rejecting, Your Broken Promises -
Chapter 92
Sebastian’s POV
Dark Savage pack
We are 5 minutes out, and my protection team and I are in this SUV. Heath is riding with his family, and the two Council members have the rest of my team riding with them. There is a total of 18 of us that will be at the gate, but I will have my men stand down. I will also have the sharpshooters go ahead and set up, as we do not know what to expect there. I mean Jasper shot Heath. That was really stupid on his part. Heath will not accept that kind of disrespect, and even at 20 years older than Jasper, he would want to fight Jasper hand-to-hand until one of them died. Shooting an Alpha, especially one as experienced and respected as Heath comes with more issues than Jasper had even thought about. He will be losing support from other packs, and eventually, he will lead his pack to be all alone, with no support in case of rogue attacks.
He was just so angry that Peyton wasn’t just handed over to him that he lost his temper and acted. That was why he wasn’t a good Alpha, and why he could never be the Alpha King. I mean Peyton was my daughter, my only daughter, and I still have to follow the rules of what I could do when he was after her. I didn’t get to protect her the way I wanted to or should have. I can’t just act on my feelings, I have to carefully weigh things to be fair to all my subjects and protect my people. I can’t just go off and do what I want. I think that is where Alpha Jasper made the most mistakes. He ASSUMED that it is just all fun, games, and power to be the Alpha King. It is not. It is stress, worry, and concern that your subjects are suffering. To provide safety and stability to people who need it, to make sure packs are run correctly, and the pack members are all treated well. That they are not abused and are taken care of. Obviously, there was no way that I could have known about what my own daughter was suffering with. No one that she could trust to help her, to reach out to tell me what was happening, for fear of the abuse happening to them. She was almost killed twice with abuse so heinous it was like the aggressive techniques that were actually used to question violent rogues.
It was unacceptable what had happened to her, and at the root of it all, was Alpha Jasper. He started this ball rolling, and as far as I am concerned everything that happened after he started making plans to take my 13-year-old daughter, was squarely on his shoulders. He really has caused my family great difficulty. We thought she was dead, we mourned her for years, it hurt us to our core what had happened. Yet we later find that she was still alive and had been living in pain and fear. I will never get past this happening to her, even if I live to be 150. What happened to her was completely unacceptable, and I already have plans in place to make sure that what happened to my precious Peyton doesn’t happen again in the future. It shouldn’t have happened to anyone if I am being honest. I feel we need to make changes that affect our people, not just the ones who think the most of themselves because they are an Alpha, but for all. Everyone has value, given the proper tools in upbringing, you shouldn’t be able to tell those from privilege from someone who wasn’t, except for the amount of spoiling that usually goes on for the elite.
I plan on putting my new plans into effect soon, Hunt’s Law, where if it is found that a pack member is living in such horrible conditions. Someone only has to make a phone call made from the pack will result in a team coming to check on the pack members. I still have to speak to Heath about it, but I want to have at least three members of his elite team going with my team to help protect them, along with the warriors. I know this won’t be quick, and we will have to deal with the status quo for a little while, but I want to eradicate the abuse that is a dirty little secret for some packs. The pack members know who it is happening to in their packs. If we need to, we can fund the hotline so that when people do report it, the person who told can also be rescued from the pack as well. I wanted to name it Peyton’s Law, because it is because of her, and what she went through, that I wanted this to be done. But I felt like she would have been embarrassed about it being named after her. She wouldn’t like all of the attention from it, so I settled for using our last name instead. I think that everyone will agree that it is a good name.
We arrive at the Dark Savage pack, and we park in the area by the gate. They seem surprised at our arrival, and I am not surprised, as we didn’t want to give them any kind of notice that we were coming here.
“Can you state your name, and purpose for your visit?” one of the younger gate guards asked us. You could tell he was made to do it as the lowest rank there.
“Please tell Alpha Jasper that the Alpha King, Sebastian Hunt, and two members of the Werewolf Council, Anthony Miller, and Teresa Phillips are here to speak with him,” I told him and let the authority in my voice seep out. I see the other two guards now exiting the booth and taking an active interest in us now.
“Wait, I see Alpha Heath, as well as Alpha Tanner and Luna Gabi here too, and they are all on the banned list. They cannot enter our packlands” one of the guards called out.
“We can start this at the gate, we have much to discuss. Please notify him that we are here and will be needing to speak to him today. Make no mistake gentlemen, he is either here at the gate in the next 10 minutes, or you can consider yourselves at war with our packs, and a few others. Tell him it is his choice on what happens next” I told them. I see the surprised looks on their faces, and I see them all looking at each other. No one wants to relay this message. I give them a little while before speaking again.
“You are running out of time gentlemen. Advise your Beta if you want to have him relay the message to Alpha Jasper, but you now have 9 minutes. Please stop wasting precious time” I tell them and then look past them in the direction of the packhouse. They needed a reminder that my time is important, and I will not be speaking to them again. I see one of them finally mindlinking, he probably took my advice on it. Yes, when you don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, give it to the Beta. They really do have to deal with a lot.
“Please wait, King Hunt, Beta Cameron is telling Alpha Jasper right now. But I can tell you that Alpha Jasper has gotten ill in the last few weeks, and his girlfriend is sick as well. I do not know if he will be able to come to the gate or not, but Beta Cameron will be down soon” one of the older gate guards told me. I guess since he knew who he was dealing with now, he took dealing with me away from the young pup. He knew if I was here, let alone the Council members, that whatever the reason for our visit, it was indeed important.
“Thank you for announcing us,” I told them and then fixed my gaze at the hill coming from the packhouse. This told them two things, I was not up for chit-chat, and I knew that someone of a higher rank was indeed heading my way. I am trying to remain calm, but I can tell that Peyton is stressing out, and it is getting me upset quickly. I hate that we need to deal with this, but we were all here together, and this did need to be done. She has dealt with too much because of Jasper, and he was going to be given a warning at this time. I heard a vehicle coming well before I saw it top the hill and everyone turns to watch it heading towards us. It was moving slowly like they are unconcerned that their time is almost up, or they were trying to make me madder at having to wait. I see the vehicle parked near the gate and Jasper is behind the wheel, he really doesn’t look good. His former good health has left him, and he looks pale and was visibly sweating. I start to remember what the toxin results had come back with, and it looks like the same problems that he is dealing with right now.
This is bad, both Anthony and I both believed that he had killed his first two Lunas. With him so sick right now, it can’t be him. He wouldn’t poison himself. His Beta looked concerned for him, and Jasper had to hold onto the gate to keep himself upright. OK, we need to figure this out quickly, or he is going to die.
“Jasper, we need access to your pack. You are being poisoned, and we need to deal with this quickly for you to be saved” I tell him, but I see him looking right past me, at Peyton standing next to her SUV with Percy. She looks scared, and I don’t blame her. But he is too weak to even try something right now. I walked over to Heath while Anthony spoke to Jasper to try to convince both him and his Beta Cameron to let us into his packland. I told Heath to call in the last two SUVs to come to us, as I was not going to enter this pack without a great deal of backup. They also were going to leave the sharpshooters in place, for now. We may need them later, and I would rather them be ready to go when and if we need them.
“I don’t want them in my pack” I heard Alpha Jasper say and he is pointing at Heath, Gabi, and Tanner. He follows up with, “Or him” as he points at Percy. Percy growls back at Jasper. That growl lets him, and everyone present, know that if he isn’t coming, then Peyton isn’t coming in either.
“Jasper, you are in no position to negotiate. We need to come in to take you to the pack doctor and investigate who is doing this. You need to let us in, I can get the doctor up to speed quickly, as we already know what you are being poisoned with. Your life is in danger, you need to stop playing around and let us in your pack. We are not here to cause any problems. We actually came to make two announcements, and then we will be gone, but this is quite serious. If we leave, and we will if you insist upon it, but you will be dead soon” I tell him, and he sees that I am serious.
We wait patiently for a few minutes while we see Jasper and his Beta Cameron mindlinking with each other. A short time later, the gates are opened to allow us entry. We all go back to our SUVs and follow Jasper’s SUV back up to his packhouse. His pack hospital is behind his packhouse, so we are close to it, and head that way with him. We started off together in a group towards the hospital because he has already shown us that he cannot be trusted. With me and the Council members here, he will immediately be put to death for any action against us. He already knew that before he let us into the Dark Savage pack. I guess he just wanted to save his own life. I hope he doesn’t think that it will be his daughter doing it, his pack doctor will be the hero today. She might be able to heal him, but he is still savable. He just needs fluids and rest, and for us to determine who the culprit is. They need to be punished, they have already killed two she-wolves, and the Luna of the pack. They need to be caught and stopped, because with them being bold enough to kill off the Luna of the pack, then they were willing to kill any of the members here.
We head past the gardens at the back of the packhouse and I notice a very nice vegetable garden, and three rows of fruit trees, in several varieties. It is very cost-effective to do this, and I am glad that someone here at Dark Savage has a great head on their shoulders. I notice some beautiful flowers in a bed near the back door, this flower bed is being lovingly taken care of. No weeds in sight, and the flowers are healthy and hydrated. Someone loves this garden and tends to all parts of it to take care of it. I slow down in my walk, as Alpha Jasper is getting winded from exerting himself. I come to a stop and act like I can’t see that he needs to rest before continuing to the hospital. I then notice a particularly beautiful plant with lovely purple flowers that were facing toward the ground and looking like delicate little bells. Right next to it was another plant with large violet-blue flowers on it. They were both stunning against the white stone of the packhouse and they really showed off against it. I made sure that my gaze was noticed, and Anthony, Teresa, Heath, Gabi, and Tanner had all stopped and commented on how lovely the garden was before we continued on to the pack hospital.
We have our context now, and Jasper was not the person we were looking for. We will have to work even more quickly now. I nodded to Anthony to step up to speak to both Alpha Jasper, and Beta Cameron, to ask that no one be allowed to leave Dark Savage. He didn’t make a huge deal of it, but by the Leader of the Werewolf Council making the request, they knew something was about to happen. Especially hot on the heels of us telling Jasper that if he didn’t work with us, he would be dying soon. They knew that we knew something now and they were just playing nice with us. They wanted to know what was going on too, but we needed to get to a secure place to speak with both Jasper and the pack doctor, as quickly as possible. We need the ball rolling quickly because now that we are here, it will spread like wildfire. Soon the guilty party will know that we are here, and either try to escape Dark Savage or try to finish him off. I don’t want to let someone who was evil enough to kill off two Lunas be able to leave here and get away with it. They would need to be punished, and we were ready to take care of it right now. We can’t take the chance of them killing again.
