Return Of The Prodigy
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 133

After getting Carl Mann's address from his colleagues, Adam and Katie headed to the complex where he lived and took the elevator to go upstairs.

Inside the elevator, Katie kept fiddling with her fingers, unable to get rid of her anxiety.

Adam held her hand and said gently, "Don't worry, I'm here with you."

"I don't know how to face his family," Katie said gloomily.

Adam sighed inwardly. He knew that Katie was in a difficult position, but there was nothing he could do to help her.

Soon, the elevator reached its destination.

The couple got out of the elevator and was about to check the door number when they heard a noise.

"Hurry to pay the money back! If not, we'll come here every day and harass you!"

"Do you think you'll be fine as long as you hide in the house? Here, have a taste of this paint!"

Splash!

The pungent smell of paint spread in the corridor.

Next, someone started pounding the door with a stick.

Dumbfounded, Adam and Katie turned to look in that direction.

No. 1501... Isn't that Carl Mann's house?

Katie winced, and she sprinted forward. "What are you doing?"

Five men stood before Carl Mann's house. Among them, one was holding a wooden stick and another one a bucket full of paint, which he was splashing everywhere. The door was a mess, and the pungent smell of paint was nearly unbearable. Seeing Katie walk over, the five turned to look at her. One of the men sneered and asked, "Are you a relative of this family?"

Katie felt guilty for what had happened to Carl Mann. She was already in a bad mood, and when she saw these guys harassing his family, the anger she felt was hard to control. "Are you here to collect a debt? No matter how much money they owe you, I'll give it to you. Now, get lost!"

Hearing that Katie was going to pay the debt, the men walked over and surrounded her.

"Hehe, looks like a rich lady is here. Do you want to pay their debt? That's fine, it'll be 300 thousand dollars in total."

Katie said coldly, "Leave your bank account number. I'll have the money transferred to you."

"Heh, quick, give her the account number."

One of the men took out his phone and read the account number for Katie.

Katie made a call, and a few minutes later, the man received a message confirming that the sum had been transferred to their bank account.

After getting the money, the five men laughed and left.

Katie sighed and walked up to the door, knocking on it. "I'm a colleague of Mr. Mann. Those guys have left."

After a short moment of silence, they heard the sound of footsteps inside the apartment. Then, the door opened a little, and someone peeked from the crack.

The one who had opened the door was a woman with short hair donning casual clothing. She held a rolling pin, and her eyes were red and swollen.

"Are you my husband's colleagues? Please come in."

Is she Mr. Mann's wife?

Katie froze on the spot. She tried to move her feet, but she felt as if a mountain was pressing on her body.

Adam sighed and spoke on her behalf. "We came to tell you that Mr. Mann had an accident when surveying the mountain today."

Mrs. Mann was startled. She hurried to ask, "Is he okay? Where is he now? Is he injured?"

Katie could not help but shiver.

Adam continued, "I'm sorry, but your husband didn't make it. He fell off a cliff, and there was nothing we could do."

Mrs. Mann stared at them in a daze, fainting in the next moment.

Adam reacted quickly and grabbed her before she could fall to the ground.

Katie was shocked. She took out her phone and made a call. "Send an ambulance here, quick! A woman just lost consciousness!"

Around ten minutes later, the ambulance arrived at the housing complex and took Mrs. Mann to the hospital.

Adam and Katie followed the ambulance all the way to the hospital.

In a van on the other side of the street, the five men that were harassing Mrs. Mann watched as Adam and Katie left the complex. One of them grabbed a phone and made a call. "Mr. Camden, Adam Drake and Katie Hartley just left. Carl Mann's wife seems to have fainted. An ambulance brought her to the hospital, and the couple went along."

Then, the man added, "We've found the kid. Fear not, everything will proceed according to your wishes."

By the time Adam and Katie left the hospital, it was already dusk.

Mrs. Mann had fainted due to the shock, and she would recover after some rest.

When she got news of her husband's death, she had slapped Katie hard.

Adam was distressed when he saw Katie's swollen cheek.

"If you want a crown, you'll have to bear its weight. This is the burden I'll have to carry from now on," said Katie bitterly.

Adam sighed.

Growing up was a painful process. Even if he was the legendary Drake the Dragon, he could not always be there to help Katie. Katie would have to learn to rely on herself.

However, I'll return everything they did to Katie a hundredfold...

Adam was convinced that Carl Mann had not fallen off the cliff on his own. It was just that he needed to find some proof first.

The couple returned to the hotel and had dinner. Annie was with Katie's parents today, and she was already asleep, so the couple did not go to pick her up.

Time flew by, and soon it was the next day.

Today, Hartley Group would hold a press conference to address Carl Mann's disappearance.

The news of the engineer's disappearance had spread in every corner of the city over the night. Despite being early in the morning, dozens of reporters had rushed to the company's headquarters to attend the press conference. Adam and Katie also came to the company early. The couple was dressed in black mourning clothes.

At ten in the morning, the conference began.

Amid the sea of cameras, Katie walked onto the stage.

"I'm Katie Hartley, the chairman of Hartley Group. First of all, I would like to hold three minutes of silence for the passing of Carl Mann."

Katie stood before the cameras, her head bowed.

The hall became very quiet.

Three minutes later, Katie said, "If you have any questions about Mr. Mann, you're free to ask."

Some of the reporters immediately raised their hands and asked, "Ms. Hartley, what are your thoughts on the matter? Is Mr. Mann's death in any way related to your company's poor security measures?"

"Ms. Hartley, have you notified Mr. Mann's family? How much will you compensate them for Mr. Mann's death?"

"Ms. Hartley..."

Questions rained down on Katie.

Katie picked one of the questions and answered, "I met with Mr. Mann's family yesterday and discussed with them how we'll proceed next."

At this moment, all the reporters heard someone shout, "You're talking nonsense!"

The sound reverberated in the entire hall. Then, a kid in his late teens barged into the room with a bloodstained banner.

"Hartley Group is evil, give me back my father!"
