Return Of The Prodigy
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 146

"Mr. Hughes, why didn't our loan get approved? What was wrong with the paperwork? What do you need? I will get it handled immediately," said Katie candidly. David scoffed and said, "I don't know either. I just know it's incomplete."

He was undoubtedly making trouble for them on purpose.

Katie suppressed her anger and sat down in front of David Hughes. She said courteously, "Mr. Hughes, we are longtime clients of the bank. Why are you making things hard for us?" David frowned and sneered, "Did I invite you to sit?"

Katie stood up awkwardly. She smiled grimly and said, "Mr. Hughes, I have already come over personally. You have everything you need. Why can't you approve the loan?" David smiled coldly and said, "I don't mind giving you the loan, but it really comes down to sincerity."

Katie sighed inside and said, "What is it going to take?"

David straightened his back and lit a cigarette. He said, "Since you have a great attitude, I don't mind telling you the truth. You have offended the wrong man. He is close friends with the bank manager, Mr. Sanders. We were given direct orders not to approve the loan. Do you know what you have to do now?"

Katie frowned and asked, "Was it Mr. Redfield?"

David puffed out the cigarette smoke and nodded. "Mr. Redfield is at Mr. Sanders' office waiting for your apology."

Katie hesitated briefly. She was unsure if the security had broken Dereck's legs last night at Longslide Resort. If his legs were intact, there was still a chance for her to turn this around. Otherwise, it was probably pointless for her to beg the man.

Adam had already figured out what was going on by now. He held Katie's hand and said, "Katie, don't beg him. It is just a matter of time before he begs you."

"Are you going to make Mr. Redfield beg you for forgiveness? Who the hell do you think you are?" said David mockingly.

Adam could not be bothered talking to a nobody-he simply held Katie's hand and turned to leave.

Right then, the door opened with a creak, and Dereck was pushed into the room in a wheelchair. Two nurses wearing white robes were standing behind him. Sure enough, his legs were broken!

Dereck laughed coldly, narrowed his eyes, and said, "Adam, Katie, I'm sure you didn't see this coming, right? You pulled a fast one last night since you knew the owner of Longslide Resort was a veteran soldier. You used the bank card for veteran soldiers so Nelly would help you. You are now in my territory, so you're not going to win this time. Do you know who he is?" Dereck pointed at the man standing behind his wheelchair.

The man was in his thirties. He was wearing a designer suit and Vacheron Constantin watch and looked like a professional.

"He is Gavin Sanders, the branch manager of Rivers Bank and my close friend. If he puts in a word for me, you can forget about ever getting a loan from his bank. With my connections, not a single bank in Lisle would work with you from now on."

Dereck smiled triumphantly, having sought his revenge. Before Katie was able to say a word, he said cockily, "From now on, Hartley Group has been blacklisted. I want you to kneel and beg for forgiveness. Also, you have to break your limbs. If you do it voluntarily, I might consider showing you some mercy. I've already told you that I am not afraid of you. Your family means nothing to me. Today, I will show you what I'm made of! I will give you a taste of true power!"

Dereck continued insulting them for three more minutes. When he finally stopped, he simply looked at Adam and Katie condescendingly.

Although he was sitting in a wheelchair since his legs were broken and had to look up at Adam and Katie, he felt it was an overwhelming win for him. He was furious yesterday but was powerless to do anything about it then. However, he finally got to punish them today and really got a kick out of avenging himself!

"What are you waiting for? You have already offended Mr. Redfield. Do you still think we would give you a loan? Apologize this instant!" Gavin chimed in.

Katie's face turned cold and serious. She knew it was difficult to solve the problem. If she did not handle it properly, Hartley Group might genuinely get blacklisted in the banking industry.

What could she do now?

Adam patted the back of her hand gently as Katie skimmed through her options mentally. Caught by surprise, she looked at Adam.

He said mildly, "You are full of bullshit. Haven't you learned your lesson yesterday? Do you think you are better than me? Do you want to show me what true power looks like? You are really overestimating yourself, but you will find out soon enough."

He then turned to look at Gavin. "Are you the branch manager here? Are you sure you want to help him? I hope you won't regret it."

Gavin froze briefly before he scoffed and said, "Stop pretending already. It won't work on me."

Adam smiled and nodded. "Okay then. I hope you will still feel as confident later." He retrieved his phone and made a call.

Dereck and Gavin were absolutely unfazed and simply laughed in disdain.

Gavin said mockingly, "Are you going to tell our CEO to come over? Who the hell do you think you are?"

Dereck burst out laughing and said, "Don't blow his cover. Just let him pretend. Even though he probably doesn't know the man, he might have something interesting up his sleeve."

The entire office erupted in laughter.

"Find out if we have business with Rivers Bank and pull out our funds. This goes for our clients as well. From now on, the bank is blacklisted!" Adam spoke into the phone and hung up immediately after.

Another round of laughter erupted in the office.

Dereck laughed so hard that he was in tears. He pointed at Adam and said mockingly, "Well done. Are you going to blacklist Rivers Bank? Are you stealing my lines after you found out we were blacklisting Hartley Group? I know you are just pretending. Do you even know what it means? Do you know how big the bank is? Hartley Group is just a small company. Even the Chamber of Commerce has to think twice before pulling this stunt. Who the hell do you think you are?"

Gavin laughed as he chimed in, "Look at me. I'm so scared. Do you see any trembling? Mr. Redfield, our bank is getting blacklisted, so you have to save me."

Dereck patted his chest and said, "Don't worry. If the bank gets blacklisted, I will give you a job at Redfield Bank."

The two of them kept up with their act of pretending to be scared of Adam before they finally laughed hysterically. They were laughing so loudly that the entire office was reverberating.

Adam shook his head. These people were not worth his time.

"Katie, let's go."

Katie looked at Adam with complicated emotions running through her heart. Even she had doubts about whether he could pull this off.

"Don't worry. I'm sure there's some other way to settle this," said Katie comfortingly.

Adam paused briefly before he smiled and said, "Just leave it to me. He will come and beg us very soon."

Katie nodded without speaking further.

Emma looked at Adam sympathetically. He must be just putting on a bold front, he is a man, so he probably does not want to embarrass himself publicly. Adam did not know what to say as he was unable to tell them the truth.

"Adam, you have already done a great job," said Emma softly.

Adam simply smiled and did not explain.

The three of them left the office.
