Return Of The Prodigy
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 145

The cleaner was caught by surprise. He gradually raised his head and pushed with both hands. He pushed the cleaning cart towards Adam and quickly pulled out a dagger from his waist. It was going to be a fight to the death!

Adam's eyes lit up threateningly. He moved sideways to evade the dagger. He jumped into the air and kicked the cleaning cart toward the cleaner.

The cleaner jumped in shock, but Adam placed his foot on the cleaning cart.

The cleaning cart came crashing toward the cleaner, pressing him against the wall. He was pinned against the wall by the cart and was unable to move whatsoever.

The cleaner was stunned. He held up the dagger and tried to stab Adam.

Adam tilted his head slightly and evaded the attack effortlessly. Just as he was about to speak, the cleaner bit something in his mouth. He started to gasp breathlessly with his eyes wide open. Poison?

Adam raised his hand and held the cleaner by the jaw forcing him to open his mouth. Blood flowed from the cleaner's mouth before he slumped his head sideways lifelessly. Damn it!

Adam let go of the cleaner, and his corpse fell to the ground.

Adam took out his phone and called Black Dragon. "Get over here. There's a dead body in lift two. Find out who he is."

After hanging up the phone, Adam cracked open the lift control panel and changed it to maintenance mode. Then, he stepped out and closed the door behind him when he was done.

When he got to the parking lot, Adam did not drive the car right away. Instead, he lay prone on the ground to check its undercarriage. Sure enough, he could see a bomb under the car with a timer flickering on it.

It was a self-made plastic bomb with two ways to detonate.

The timer had eight hours on the clock. This meant it would detonate when Katie and he were heading to work.

He narrowed his eyes, a murderous aura emanating from him.

If Annie had not called him suddenly, he would have not encountered the assassin downstairs. This meant it would have never dawned on him to check the car the next morning. When the timer was up, the bomb would have blown, and the two of them would have been reduced to smithereens.

In a way, the assassin had already succeeded even though he did not do it personally!

Fortunately, his soldier's instincts did not fail him. He had to see if he could squeeze any intel from the assassin.

"There was a bomb in the car timed to detonate in 8 hours. Take the car and tear it apart. I want you to find the culprit using clues from the car! No matter who it is, he will pay with his life!"

Adam sounded furious when speaking to Black Dragon. He did not care if assassins wanted to get him. If Katie and Annie became collateral damage, he would kill them even if they were God! After leaving the parking lot, Adam flagged a cab and went over to pick up Annie.

When he got to Gemma's apartment, he knocked on the door. Before long, Gemma came out dressed in her pajamas carrying Annie.

The girl was still counting with her fingers and looked adorable.

"98, 99... Oh. It's Daddy!"

Annie lunged into Adam's arms the moment she saw him. She embraced him by the neck tightly. "Daddy, if I have a little brother, will you stop loving me?"

Adam rubbed her head affectionately and kissed her on the cheek. "Absolutely not. You are our little angel, and we will love you forever."

"I want you to hug me while I sleep." Annie placed her face on Adam's cheek and refused to stay apart from him for a second.

"Okay. Anything you want."

After comforting Annie, he said apologetically, "Mom, I know it's late. Sorry about disturbing you. Will get going now, good night."

Gemma nodded as she handed Annie's bag to Adam and closed the door.

Adam brought Annie back to the hotel. When he carried her into the room, she refused to get onto the bed. She wanted him to continue holding her.

Adam smiled indulgently. He leaned against the bed headboard with her in his arms as he told her bedtime stories. The little girl gradually fell asleep holding onto her father's hand tightly.

The next morning, the moment Katie woke up and flipped over, she was caught by surprise.

There was no one on the bed beside her.

"Adam?"

Katie got out of bed as she called for him. When she pulled off the blanket, she felt cold and trembled. She lowered her head and saw her naked body.

Katie froze momentarily before she finally recalled getting drunk last night. After she got drunk, Adam bathed her. When they were in the bathroom, she even threw herself at him. She instantly turned crimson.

Katie put on her pajamas and walked out of the room and peeked inside Annie's room out of habit.

Adam had Annie in his arms as he smiled and asked, "Are you up?"

"Did you pick up Annie?" Katie said in astonishment.

Adam nodded without giving any explanation.

After they got ready, they had breakfast together. Black Dragon was done pulling apart the vehicle for investigation, so the car was already there.

Adam got into the car and inspected it carefully.

Katie could not help asking quizzically, "What are you looking for?"

Adam made a random excuse. "We have to check the vehicle before driving. Didn't your driving instructor tell you?"

Katie rolled her eyes speechlessly.

After sending Annie to school, the couple went to the office.

Emma called Katie and said, "Katie, are you at the office yet? I'm at Rivers Bank. I was told our loan application was incomplete, so you have to make a trip here."

Katie paused briefly thinking about what Amelia had told her last night.

Was it true? Are the banks refusing to loan us money?

Katie frowned as she replied, "Okay. I'm on my way."

Adam could tell something was amiss with Katie. He asked, "What's wrong?"

Katie smiled sadly and replied, "The bank didn't approve the loan."

Adam instantly raised his brow as a cold look swept across his eyes.

Even though Katie had quite a bit of money, it was not enough to develop Plot No. 3 and the resorts at the same time. She had to get a loan from the bank. If they did not have the funding, Hartley Group would face cash flow problems. This meant they had to stop work, and it would eventually bankrupt the company.

Naturally, it would only come to that if Adam did not get involved.

In reality, Adam could provide far more funding than she needed anytime she wanted it. It was not about the money, he could not take the insult lying down.

"Come on. I will go to the bank with you. Let's see what they are up to!" said Adam coolly.

When they got to Rivers Bank and entered through the door, they saw Emma waiting anxiously for them in the lobby.

"Emma," Katie called out. Then, she went over to her and asked, "What's wrong? What do they mean by incomplete information in the application?"

Emma quickly came over and said angrily, "Katie, this really isn't about the paperwork anymore. This is not the first time I've gotten a loan from them, so I know what I was doing. They're clearly trying to make things difficult for us." Katie frowned.

Was Dereck behind this?

"Where is Mr. Hughes?"

"He's in the office. Let me show you the way." Emma showed her to the office.

After knocking on the door, a languid voice said, "Come in."

Katie, Emma, and Adam walked into the office. David Hughes was sitting on a leather chair narrowing his eyes languidly.
