Chapter 640 Death Comes for Equality
1/8
Rachel leaned her head on "Chandler's" shoulder, her flirtatious intentions obvious.
Meryl didn't push her away, instead speaking in the same soft tone Rachel had used. "I'm not your Chandler. I'm Chandler's wife, Rachel. You can call me Meryl." Rachel froze.
After a few seconds of confusion, her hands instinctively felt around and accidentally touched Meryl's chest.
That was when she realized she'd embraced the wrong person.
She let go of Meryl with disgust. "Meryl, what are you doing here? Are you happy now that you've ruined my life?"
"Oh, yes, how did you guess?"
Meryl sat down on the sofa, fixing Rachel with a calm stare. "Şo happy that I went out for lunch today and enjoyed a whole plate of lobster. It was absolutely delicious." Rachel's brows furrowed. "You're eating fancy lobster? After blinding me? While I'm suffering here, you're..."

She couldn't believe Meryl was out having lunch parties.

Rachel's face turned cold. "Meryl, I won't let you get away with
this!"
"Well, here I am, sitting right in front of you. What exactly do you plan to do about it?"
Rachel grabbed at the air a couple of times, unable to catch hold of Meryl, her chest heaving with anger.
She found Meryl utterly despicable, convinced she had come just to mock her misfortune.
Knowing Chandler was nearby, Rachel pleaded, "Chandler, are you just going to stand there while she bullies me?"
As Chandler was about to speak, Meryl gently squeezed his palm. "Darling, you haven't rested since last night. Go home and get some sleep. I'll take care of things here." Chandler froze. Meryl wanted to take care of this.
Rachel wouldn't let up. "No, don't go! Once you leave, she'll bully me even worse!"
Meryl chuckled. "Sure, I might. But tell me, why should Chandler protect you, a stranger, instead of me, his wife?"
That shut Rachel up.
But being blind, she could only stand there helplessly, unable to

do anything.

Unable to win the argument, Rachel prepared to throw another
tantrum.
However, after last night's episode, anything throwable had already been removed.
Now, the room contained nothing but a bed and a sofa. They were both too heavy for Rachel to damage.
In an icy tone, Meryl declared, "You'll pay full price for everything you've broken since last night.
"The neighboring rooms have complained three times already. Keep making trouble if you want, but don't be surprised when you're kicked out, and no other hospital will take you." "Stop trying to scare me with your threats!" Rachel snapped. "Chandler won't abandon me!"
"Don't be so sure." Meryl's words shattered Rachel's hope with brutal efficiency.
Meryl continued, "If Chandler gets fed up with your drama, he might just dump you on the street. Then what? Where would blind woman like you even look for him?" Rachel couldn't stand talking to Meryl anymore!
She felt her way to the bed and curled up under the blankets.

Rachel figured Meryl couldn't stay forever. She'd be gone by the time she woke up.
Seeing Rachel finally settle down, Meryl stepped out of the hospital room.
Chandler followed, gently taking her hand and intertwining their fingers.
It was the first time he'd seen this side of Meryl, and he had to admit Meryl was pretty impressive.
Rachel had been giving him a headache since last night, but Meryl had managed to quiet her down with just a few choice words.
"Aren't you mad at me anymore?"
"Who said that? I'm still angry." She pulled her hand away. "You should thank your unborn child. I'm only giving you this chance for the baby's sake. Don't waste it." Chandler smiled as he gently placed his palm on Meryl's belly.
Crouching in front of her, he gazed at her stomach and said softly, "Thank you, baby."
Meryl watched the man before her.
Chandler's eyes were downcast as a slant of sunlight from the window caught his hair.

His blond hair gleamed, and the way he looked at her was so tender.

Without thinking, Meryl ran her fingers over Chandler's brows and eyes, feeling her heart soften.
Perhaps because she'd just given Rachel hell, Meryl was in a pretty good mood.
She figured it was better to raise hell than waste energy on inner turmoil.
Why should she be the only one suffering?
If someone had to be miserable, she'd make damn sure Rachel was stressed enough to develop nodules!
"I'll be staying at Stone Villa for a while," Meryl said softly.
She knew if she went home and found Chandler absent, she'd just worry herself sick with endless thoughts.
"Chandler, no woman would take this situation lightly, but I want to trust you this once. I believe you can handle this properly. Please don't let me down." Her voice cracked as she finished speaking. Chandler's heart ached at her words. He immediately stood up and pulled her into his arms.
His lips brushed gently against her hair.

He said, "I know this situation has been unfair to you. Give me five days... No, three days! And I'll go to Stone Villa to take you home."
"Who says I want to go back with you?" Meryl punched his chest and wiggled out of his embrace.
Chandler let her go with a smile. "Fine, if you don't go home with me, then I'll move into Stone Villa with you. I'll be your live-in husband instead."
Not far away, Felix sat in his wheelchair, watching the scene unfold.
Beside him, Philip held his breath, carefully observing Felix's expression. "Mr. Powell... please don't be angry."
When Felix heard that Rachel had gone blind, he'd rushed over immediately, leaving his rehabilitation therapy unfinished, worried Meryl would be heartbroken.
He wouldn't have thought he'd walk in on them embracing.
Felix pressed his tongue against his cheek. His heart filled with an indescribable bitterness he'd never felt for any woman before.
His voice was heavy as he said, "What's there to look at? Let's go."
Philip asked reflexively, "Back to therapy, then?"
"No more therapy!" Felix declared from his wheelchair,

completely dejected. "We're going home!"

Philip froze, his eyes darting to Felix's legs. "But Mr. Powell, the treatment isn't finished..."
Felix scoffed, "So what if I'm crippled? I don't have a wife anyway! No one cares if I live or die!" Meanwhile, Meryl and Chandler had separated.
Meryl entered the elevator, apparently preparing to leave the hospital.
Seeing Felix in such a state, Philip took matters into his own hands. "Ms. Stone, wait!"
He rushed toward the elevator, pushed the wheelchair, and managed to squeeze inside.
The elevator doors began to close when Philip suddenly let go... leaving himself outside. Philip said, "Ms. Stone, something came up! Please look after Mr. Powell for me!" Felix hadn't expected Philip to pull such a stunt.
As the elevator descended to the first floor, Felix couldn't just sit there indefinitely.
After a moment's hesitation, Meryl wheeled him out.

Felix spoke up unexpectedly, "You know, dealing with Rachel wouldn't be that difficult."
Meryl turned to look at him.
Felix narrowed his eyes, "I could marry her and keep her at home, making her life miserable every day. Would that satisfy your grudge?" They were already engaged, after all; marrying Rachel would only take one word from Felix.
Meryl shot him a piercing glance before turning to leave. "How tedious!"
Felix watched her retreating figure with a smirk. "Can't bear the thought of me marrying someone else, can you?"
Bathed in the glow of the setting sun, he was almost swallowed by the blinding light.
"I've got dirt on her," he said with a cryptic smile. "Sweet-talk me a bit, and I might just tell you what it is. How about that?"
