Shadows Of A Forgotten Spring
Billionaire Shadow 141

Chapter 141

Annie did not sleep much that night, She had many thoughts rufinting in her mind. Sleep was a luxury she could not afford, not when she had no idea what was going on inside the hospital So she lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling while her heart pounded with

frustration and determination. Going back without answers wasn't an option

Annie dragged herself up at the crack of dawn. Her exhaustion was written in dark circles around her eyes, but she refused to let it stop her. She grabbed her bag, tugged a face cap low over her head to hide her face, and left the hotel.

The cool morning air on her skin as she hailed a taxi did little to make her feel at ease. As the vehicle pulled up in front of the hospital, Annie took a deep breath, her heart racing. Alexander was her life, her future, and she wasn't going to let anyone push her out of it. She removed the face cap, got out of the taxi, straightened herself up, and her heels clicked confidently on the pavement. Paparazzi, like vultures, circled around her, flashing their cameras and asking question after question. She just ignored them and walked through the front doors of the hospital with her face composed.

Inside, whispers and glances flies around as she walked through the reception. Annie ignored it all and headed straight to the VIP Emergency ward.

The guards stood at attention in front of the ward entrance.

"Ma'am, you're not authorized to enter this area." One of them said politely but firmly.

Annie's eyes flashed; she was getting angry. "Authorized?" she repeated, her tone acidic. "Do you even know who I am?" The

ma'am, but those are Mr. Kevin's orders. Nobody gets past this point guard did not budge; he was as firm as she. "I: without clearance." She fought her way in, screaming at the top of her voice.

Her shrill, venomous tone pierced through the walls, demanding answers. "I need to see him now!" she screamed, heels clicking aggressively against the tiled floor. "You have no right to keep me away! I deserve to know what's happening!" Alexander's jaw clenched as he stood in the doorway.

He exchanged a glance with Kevin, who looked so alarmed and irritated at the same time. Kevin stepped forward, ready to stop Annie, but Alexander raised a hand to stop him.

"I'll handle this," he said coldly, his voice devoid of emotion.

"Alexander left the operating theatre with a determined stride, his face lined with tiredness. His eyes fell on Annie, who was standing in the corridor, surrounded by hospital personnel trying to stop her. The fire in her eyes melted into calculated sweetness as her gaze landed on him.

"Alexander," she called softly, her voice trembling with fake concern as tears began to formed in her eyes. "I was worried all night. I couldn't sleep, so I flew in first thing this morning." She laid her hand on her stomach, deliberately calling his attention to her pregnancy.

Alexander's jaw clenched. Frustration flickered for a moment in his eyes as he felt cornered.

Without a word, he gestured for Annie to follow him. He didn't want to stick around for the audience that was beginning to build. He marched toward his office, his mind seething with annoyance.

"You shouldn't have come, Annie," Alexander said coldly the moment the door closed. His voice was cold and detached, his eyes fixed on the floor as he paced the room. "I believe Kevin told you I'm busy." Annie's eyes went wide and behind her eyes for just one swift passing moment flashed the genuine look of shock.

"What do you meat I shouldn't have come? her voice trembled is she shouted, "Knowing my condition, how could you risk your life for a total stranger?

Alexander froze mid-stride, his piercing eyes locking onto hers Emma is no stranger to me," he snapped, anger lacing his tone. Nor to you.

The venom in his voice made Annie shrink back; for a moment, her confidence faltered. This wasn't the Alexander she was used to, the man who always kept himself away from Emma in her

since yesterday when he had risked his life to save Emma from, esence. But everything had changed for the worse

the skyscraper.

Annie's voice gentled then, another waye of tears streaming down her face. "But we're having a baby, Alexander. Don't you see that? I don't want to raise our child alone," she wept, clutching her stomach as if to remind him of the life they were supposed to share. Alexander did not bat an eye, but he was definitely losing his patience. Her constant tears, her unending demands- it was overwhelming. "I came back alive, didn't I? That is all that truly matters," he replied shortly, dismissing her appeal for emotion.

Before Annie could say more, a knock at the door was followed by Kevin's boicy, whose face reflected concern and urgency. informing Alexander that everything was ready for surgery and they were waiting for him. "I will be there shortly, Alexander replied with firmness in his voice. Alexander started walking towards the door when suddenly Annie sprang into action and

tracks. Her eyes wide with panic, confusion danced in her eyes as she spoke with caught his wrist firmly to stop him in his

urgency:

"What surgery?" she asked, her voice quiv

"Emma's liver was destroyed in the explosion," Alexander said without hesitation. "Mine is a good match. I'm donating part of it."

Annie's face twisted in disbelief, her voice rising in protest. "You can't be serious!" she exclaimed, shaking her head as if to dispel his words. "You're risking yourself for her? After everything she has done to you!? To us!?"

Alexander's face set in a determination. "I cannot just sit back ways, but Emma and I share something that binds us for life."

Watch her die," he said resolutely. "We may have parted

Annie's confusion mounted. "What are you talking about?" she demanded.

Alexander's jaw clenched, but he returned her stare. "I'm talking about Emily and Ethan. They're my children, Annie. I won't stand by and let their mother die when I can save her."

The words hit Annie like a thunderbolt, and her grip on his wrist slackened. Her lips trembled as the weight of his revelation sank in. He knows. Her mind spiraled, questions colliding in a chaotic storm. When did he find out? How did he find out? Who told him? Alexander didn't wait for her to process the shock. "We'll talk later," he said curtly before turning and leaving the room.

But Annie barely registered his parting words. Her mind was miles away, her heart drowning in the storm of her fear. She stood frozen, with tears streaming down her face, as the realization rang in her brain. She was getting dumped again, just like her father had dumped her five years ago. Now it was Alexander.
