Sophia's Revenge -
Sophia’s Revenge – Chapter 49
Kane’s POV
“Baby girl, you are amazing. I have never seen anyone do what you did today. When Stella controlled that water, it was breathtaking. I can’t wait to see what else you two can do.”
“What was that with our wolves? Please tell you guys saw that?” Xander asked, disgusted.
“HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Stella warned me, so I put up a block up and don’t know what happened.”
“Dude, their animals mate like us. It’s only fair they get a piece of action too!” I said.
“Well, Jax and I have an understanding. Understanding that I don’t want to see that again and he needs to warn me.”
We had made it to the pack house and both Xander and I had work to do.
“Boys, I would like to cook your dinner. Be home by 6pm and no later.” Sophia said and she left us.
We headed to Xanders office to do some work.
“Kane, will you review the patrols. We’ve had a few guards saying they’ve smelled some wolves but can’t seem to ever catch them. I think we need to change it up a little.”
“Ya, I have heard that also. We need to talk about security for the Luna Ceremony too. I don’t want to take any chances with it.”
We both sat down and got to work on what needed to be done and were able to get caught up a lot and apparently, we lost track of time because we got a mind link “it is six fifteen, boys and your late. Don’t make me eat by myself.”
“Sorry baby girl were on our way.” I linked back.
We both practically ran out of the office and up to our room. We could smell the food before we even got to the door.
“I don’t know what she cooked but I think I’m going to be in a food coma,” Xander said as he opened the door.
“Beautiful, this smells amazing. What did you cook?” Xander asked.
“I made chicken Alfredo, garlic bread and salad.”
“I didn’t know it was possible, but I think I love you even more for the way this food smells!” I said.
“Kane, you haven’t even tried it yet. For all you know, it tastes horrible.”
I slid up to her and kissed her and told her “Anything you do is amazing. Maybe we’ll skip dinner and go straight to dessert.”
“No, can do, boys, I have to meet Luna Caroline soon about the Luna ceremony.”
We all sat down and dug in and I think I died and went to heaven. This is the best food I’ve ever had. Xander and I ate most of the food, leaving no leftovers.
“Were you guys hungry? You didn’t leave any!”
“Beautiful, that was the best dinner I’ve ever had. I didn’t know you could cook. You can cook us dinner anytime you want.” Xander said.
“Well, since I cooked and need to meet Luna Caroline, you boys can do the dishes.” She said as she got up and left.
“Xan, I don’t think I can move. I ate so much food. Can we have an Omega come do the dishes?”
“No, don’t be so dam lazy and get up and help!”
Xander had always been a little bit of a neat freak and me not so much.
We were putting the last of the dishes away when we got a mind link from a warrior. “Alpha, Beta we have a breech at the northeast side. There are four in total. We have them all alive and are bringing them to the cells.”
This is why we train so hard. Our warriors are good at what they do, and we rarely have any issues. They handle it quickly and efficiently.
We put the last of the dishes away and headed to the cells. They should be there by now.
“Sir, they won’t tell us who they are or why they are here. They don’t smell like rouges, but they won’t tell us what pack they’re with either.”
“Good work warrior. Please go back and finish your patrol. We will handle it from here,” Xander told him.
We headed down there to just check them out and see if we could recognize them. We walked through the cells but didn’t know any of them.
“Does anyone want to speak up? I’ll give you one chance to do this the easy way.” Xander boomed out.
We didn’t get a response, so I walked over to the first cell and opened the door and ripped the person out by the back of their neck and took them to the torture room. I slammed them down in the chair and placed the restraints on them.
When I stepped back and looked at them, I noticed that they were young. Really young. Like just barely had their first shift young.
“How old are you?”
“IIIIMMM um I’m ssssiixxteeen.” They stuttered out.
s**t, this wasn’t good. I couldn’t do this to a kid. I mink linked Xander that he needs to come here now.
He walked in and looked at me angrily because I made him come in here, but then he looked at the kid.
“What the f**k, how old is he?”
“Sixteen.”
We walked out into the hall to talk away from him.
“I can’t do this to him. He’s just a kid. He was probably forced here. Can I approach this with caution? He could barely tell me his age.”
“Ya, take him out of this room and maybe get him some food and see if he will talk.”
I walked back into the room and undid his restraints.
“You hungry kid?”
He didn’t answer but shook his head at me. He followed me up the stairs and to the pack house so we could find him some food.
We sat in the empty dining hall while he inhaled three sandwiches.
“Tell me your name.”
“I’m not supposed to say a word if we get captured.”
“Who told you that?”
“The Alpha and Luna.”
“Can you tell me why your here?”
He keeps looking around nervously, like someone is watching him.
“You’re safe here. We won’t let anything happen.”
“You don’t understand their power. They get whatever they want, and they don’t let anything get in their way.”
“How about you tell me why they sent you? You’re a kid.”
“Because I’m disposable. If I die, then they lose nothing.”
“How about this? I offer you a place in our pack in exchange for information. You will be safe and protected here.”
“How do I know I can trust you?”
You tell me what would make you trust me, and I will see what we can do.”
“I want to speak with the Alpha.”
“Why?”
“I have questions that only he can answer.”
“Let me see what I can do?”
I sent Xander a mind link telling him what this kid had said.
“He will be here shortly. Do you more to eat?”
“No, thank you.”
We waited about fifteen minutes for Xander to show up and when he did, he was covered in b***d and was already angry.
“What is so important that you had to talk to me and not my beta?”
“Jules.”
That name stopped us both. We just stared at him for a minute before regaining our composure.
“What does she have to do with this?”
“You give me protection and I will tell you.”
“What is your name?”
“Miles.”
“Listen Miles, I will offer you protection, but I don’t trust you. You will have no communication with anyone outside of this pack. No electronic devices, no access to phones, nothing and you will have a guard at all times.”
“Deal.”
“Now, what do you have to do with Jules?”
I didn’t think he could drop anymore bombshells, but he did, and it had us both questioning everything.
“She is my stepmother.”
“WHAT?”
“My mom died when I was young, and my dad took her as a chosen mate, and they decided they weren’t going to mark each other until she found her fated mate and made him suffer first. I guess you are him because she talked about Xander frequently.”
“Why, would you willing help us against your own family?”
“Because they want me dead.”
“Why?”
“My dad never wanted a son. He doesn’t want to have to pass the title to me. He has never been nice. I’m pretty sure my mom died because of him. He had multiple women coming and going after that until Jules came and she stuck. She is just as crazy as him. They mostly ignore me now but send me on these missions that have me fighting for my life. I really think they are trying to get me killed.”
“Why do you say they mostly ignore you now?”
“She had a baby, and that took their angry focus off me and gave all their attention to my sister. I am not complaining because I don’t get beat much anymore, but like I said, I think they send me on these missions hoping I will die, so my dad doesn’t have to hand the pack to me. I think he would like to give it to my sister and her mate, but that will be a long time from now.”
“How old is your sister?” I asked. I had to wonder what if it was Xanders. The thought wouldn’t leave me. I knew he wouldn’t ask, so I did.
“She is three. I do love her, it’s not her fault my dad and her mom are this way. I would also like to protect her if we can. She is innocent in all of this.”
I looked back at Xander, who was lost to his own thoughts. She left over three and half years ago. This could be his daughter and he never knew it.
“Xander, are you ok?”
He didn’t answer, just stormed off. I showed Miles his room and put a guard at his door and told him if he needed anything to let the guard know and they would tell us. I also took his cell phone.
